How was life different 15 years ago?

  1. I don't mean personally but generally.

Got me thinking in another thread about something that happened (relatives accident) 15 years ago and it seem so recent yet seems so long ago too. 15 years before that was 1992 so I imagine 2007 seems a different lifetime 1992.

Anyway what has changed. I remember topping up my non-smart phone (Samsung clam) by text and that seemed so much better than a top up card.

Just married now getting divorced when can afford it, if I knew then what I know now I wouldn’t have married him wouldn’t have moved him in either. I don’t hate him but since leaving I’m so much happier. I do remember loving the fact 2007 had 007 in it.

Dial up computer connection, mobile phones not very sophisticated and expensive.

I think some people have some odd memories of 2007. Certainly I wasn’t using dial up Internet. I had a blackberry, you could email and all sorts on it. Don’t remember it being very expensive.

I joined FB having avoided it for a few years but I was heavily pregnant and enjoyed connecting with people I hadn't seen in ages. Friends reunited had gone by then I think.

The first iPhone came out and I got one for about £100 as I knew someone who worked for O2. People were blown away with the swipe screen and where were the buttons?

I remember the smoking ban, definitely a good thing.

@itsdaveclarke I used to go to the Warehouse project ALL THE TIME - I saw Bonde do Role, Jon Digweed and Annie Mac. I also def saw Hot Chip and Pendulum, but can't be 100% sure it was at the Warehouse Project or somewhere else for...reasons. And Basement Jaxx at the Manchester Arena and Goldfrapp at some basement in Leeds. Gig tickets must have been so much cheaper then, because I sure as hell wasn't a well off student,

It was a proper best of times/worst of times time for me - I also don't think I have a single photo of any of them, which is really odd to think about now, but totally normal for the time. I remember wearing a little tea dress from TopShop and doing my hair up like a more sane version of Amy Winehouse - my best friend and I used to spend hours backcombing and applying eyeliner while listening to Frank on CD.

@BertieBotts I remember the crunch starting in 2007 - that Christmas loads of shops shuttered in Manchester city center and I remember thinking "this isn't good", although, mostly I was upset that the Top Shop shoe shop closed. I used to spend a lot of time and money in there...
