What would you do with 700 pounds?

Theblackdogagain · 10/11/2022 18:24

I think I'm getting a tax rebate of 700 pounds, assuming i have Christmas covered for kids and husband and no debts what would you spend it on? I have savings and it will be adsorbed into normal day to day to costs unless I ring fence it for something.

Weekend away for you and hubby?

Or some lovely things planned for next year? Days out etc

BitOutOfPractice · 10/11/2022 18:25

Go somewhere! Do something.

NippyWoowoo · 10/11/2022 18:26

Paying off debt 😞

But I might use some on myself and splurge on a 'new' second hand phone, mine's barely hanging on

Go to London for a couple of nights and see a show (you will probably need to add a bit of your own cash unless you already live in central London).

WomenShouldWinWomensSports · 10/11/2022 18:26

Well personally I'd pay down my credit card but assuming no debts, I'd buy something I needed such as a new phone.

Assuming I didn't need anything, I'd put it into stocks and shares for a year (or five) and see where it went.

UsPoorFolk · 10/11/2022 18:26

A few days away. Enjoy it.

We have almost the same post 😂

I am saving for

Carpets
Washing machine
Car repairs
Holiday

Very boring!

pilates · 10/11/2022 18:28

Put it towards a family holiday next year

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/11/2022 18:29

A carpenter to build some storage

Fireballxl5 · 10/11/2022 18:30

I’d give £50 to Shelter and spend £50 buying Christmassy food for the food bank.
Then I’d treat myself to a really nice stay in a hotel with a log fire and a beautiful view.

No499 · 10/11/2022 18:30

I'd probably use it towards a weekend getaway or buy a really nice appliance/new piece of furniture/new soft furnishings.
Realistically it's not probably worth investing. Stock market isn't great and won't be for at least a year

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/11/2022 18:31

Mini break

Theblackdogagain · 10/11/2022 18:32

Thanks, some lovely ideas, I've already priced up next year's holiday but maybe some extras would be nice. Money already to charity but some great ideas there. I would love to go away with dh but one child needs special care and we can't leave him with anyone which also rules out a lot of fun things. I do love experiences though so I'll get thinking.

£700, no debts, Christmas sorted and no pressure on day to day costs and no desire to save? We'd probably go for a long weekend with Forest Holidays but I'm in a marginal mumsnet population that likes a hot tub.

YorkieTheRabbit · 10/11/2022 18:36

Liberty advent calendar
Earrings
picture for our living room
that’s the £700 spent 😊

Please consider giving the money to your own local homeless shelter.

We had to contact Shelter on behalf of someone this year and were shocked at how unhelpful they were and the advice they did eventually manage to give was dreadful.

We has given money to them previously but when we experienced for ourselves how they operate we would never again give them money and we now only donate to our local homeless where we actually see the money put to good use.

IntentionalError · 10/11/2022 18:38

I would spend it on a weekend away somewhere nice.

CaronPoivre · 10/11/2022 18:39

That sort of amount I'd put into premium bonds.

BeastOfBODMAS · 10/11/2022 18:40

I’d get my car professionally valeted, buy a decent winter coat and pair of trainers and take DH for a fancy meal and night away at the place we went on our (staycation) honeymoon.
Any change would go in a separate ’fun money’ savings pot.
It’s so rare I spend money unnecessarily that 7 x £100 treats will go much further than 1 x £700 treat!

LondonWolf · 10/11/2022 18:40

No debt to pay? I'd put it towards flights or my new car fund.

Rainbowqueeen · 10/11/2022 18:42

Extra family holiday if you already have one planned. In the form of a mini break somewhere in the uk

Nice. I'm doing that too.

SilverCatStripes · 10/11/2022 18:43

I would get a cat.
