What would you do with 700 pounds?

I think I'm getting a tax rebate of 700 pounds, assuming i have Christmas covered for kids and husband and no debts what would you spend it on? I have savings and it will be adsorbed into normal day to day to costs unless I ring fence it for something.

Fun option - fancy meal or spa weekend with a best friend
Boring option - overpay mortgage or pension boost, or put in Junior Isa for a child.
Those saying invest in shares for a year are missing the point of investing in shares, you don't do it to see a return in a year, its a 10 yr+ strategy.

I've got 3 cats already but love that suggestion. I'm the kind of person that thinks 10 pounds is too much for an advent calendar so they idea of going crazy is interesting :-)

Lump it in savings.

Weekend at center parcs!

Blocked · 10/11/2022 18:48

Take the kids back to Centre Parcs for a few nights. I miss the pancake house Grin

Sorry to be boring but OP please just save it. Not the same instant gratification as a treat but things are getting more expensive all the time and in a few months time the car could break down or whatever and you could suddenly be so glad you have a little chunk of money so that your day to day finances or longer term saving for big projects isn't impacted.

Boymumsoymum · 10/11/2022 18:51

Call it instant access savings. Contingency pot. Not necessarily saving for anything in particular just a day to day emergencies fund that means you can leave your longer term savings alone.

NoSquirrels · 10/11/2022 18:56

£700?

Festival or gig tickets

PilatesPeach · 10/11/2022 18:58

Give it all to the dog rescue the amount of abandoned dogs breaks my heart

I mean, this is the sensible option and I do recommend it. But there is something to be said for a splurge too - if you’re usually sensible it can be hard sometimes to always say no and things to look forward to, all paid for, have their own value.

FlamingBells · 10/11/2022 19:02

I'd make an additional payment towards my NI contributions so I buy another year of my state pension. Or put it towards my private pension or overpay on mortgage.

Itisbetter · 10/11/2022 19:10

I’d go blonde

Gazelda · 10/11/2022 19:14

£50 To both of my young adult nieces.
200 in premium bonds for my DD14
£300 for annual gym/pool membership.
£100 on a lovely pair of earrings from an Etsy shop.

snowbellsxox · 10/11/2022 19:15

When are you getting it still waiting on mine 😭 xx

Madcats · 10/11/2022 19:17

Buy something you will look at and remember.

A painting? A vase? A tree?
Upgrade your pillows/duvet?

Bung a load of chocolate advent calendars in a food bank?

Save the rest.

Pearlyqueen21 · 10/11/2022 19:17

I would probably put it in our British Gas account! Boring, but I would then luxuriate in putting the heating on at will over the winter.

frozendaisy · 10/11/2022 19:18

Put it towards flights

SuperCamp · 10/11/2022 19:18

I’d buy a gorgeous good quality winter jumper, some smarter trousers than I currently own, and out the rest in savings.

OceanbreezeSun · 10/11/2022 19:20

I would use it to go away for a long weekend somewhere nice in the UK, somewhere with Christmas markets, a cosy pub for a roast dinner. Edinburgh or somewhere near the north east coast.

Slapmyslapmyass · 10/11/2022 19:21

Very, very boring but I'd keep hold of it in case of emergencies. Or put the heating on a bit more as a special treat! I might also get my hair cut and buy the coat I've been watching on Ebay.

Merrow · 10/11/2022 19:24

I got £1000 in a premium bonds win years ago and I have it in a separate savings account. It brings me an unreasonable amount of joy to know that at some unspecified point in the future I can splurge on something outrageously decadent that I just want or want to do.

Iliveinanoodie · 10/11/2022 19:39

If its not needed for emergencies, then I'd get me some lovely winter boots and/or a nice bag. Then I'd be happy every time I used them. 😁 sod everyone else and enjoy it!

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 10/11/2022 19:43

If that's something that wasn't expected to pay for anything, just buy something you really want?

kingtamponthefurred · 10/11/2022 19:45

A weekend away in early Spring.

IHeartGeneHunt · 10/11/2022 19:46

I'd buy a really beautiful shed.
