Has anyone changed their getting up time to being very early?

Something I'm wondering about. I'm single, separated. 2 DC. By the time they're in bed I'm done. No hope of being productive. I'm wondering if I should try and get up early (5?) and try and get stuff done then. (The problem being the DC might wake up which would render the idea pointless)

Has anyone done this? I usually end up pottering ineffectively then watching TV til too late.

What are a 5 and 7 year old stopping you from doing though? (Not snarky question). If it's house stuff, they can help! I used to use the hour between tea and bed to do house stuff, after DS was big enough to bath himself I could whip through the upstairs rooms, stack the diswasher, all that.

But I am a night owl rather than an early bird so getting up at 5am horrifies me!

Generally just being young children.
Yesterday, got in at 6.30pm. Cooked dinner, ate, did reading, washed up while they watched telly, bedtime wash, loo, teeth read story, in bed by 8.30pm. I had a bath, sorted some washing. 9.30pm.

Today - shorter work day, but parents evening (would normally be swimming) so in by 5, just cooked and eaten. About to wash up and wipe round kitchen, do reading, then DC bath (I'll sort washing while they do this) it'll be 8.30pm. I have a pile of book bags, pe kits, random jumpers, lunch boxes to deal with.

I just don't have any inclination to do more than the basics in the evening. I do though have a day off tomorrow!!
