I've ate raw turkey in the carvery

Hi,

Wondering what to do. Had a carvery with DH, I had gammon, he had turkey. He drowned his in mint gravy (hence why I couldn't tell it was raw initially). He didn't like it, didn't say why but he's picky with food anyway so I ate some, it was really moist, flavourless but it wasn't so bad and then on my fourth or so bite it was like absolute jelly. I stopped there, moved pieces about and seen the underneath layers looked raw?

At this point, I called staff but they were really busy and I had a screaming 1 year old and tired and fed up 3 year old. I left, with the intention to call back. I couldn't get through, I'm guessing because it was busy.

Now I'm having cramps and sweats but I don't know if I've somehow got myself paranoid.

What do I do? And now terrified of puking because I have a fear of being sick Sad

The thing is, at a carvery there are three lots of people who would have to have noticed that the turkey was raw.

The kitchen staff
The front of house (waiting) staff
The customer (your DH, before he drowned it in mint sauce for some reason)

What does your DH reckon?

RunningFromInsanity · 09/11/2022 19:01

Raw meat doesn’t aways have to mean food poisoning.
It’s likely you are making yourself ill because you think you should be.

ecnatsid · 09/11/2022 19:04

DH was mortified when he seen the fleshy ones underneath, said it was raw. Said the bit he ate was just bland and not as dry as he'd like.

Are you sure then jelly-like bit wasn't just fat?

To get food poisoning, the food would have to be contaminated to start with - eating raw meat by itself doesn't = food poisoning.

I have a photo but I can't attach it on the app 😩

Looks like fat to me. A poor quality cut of meat, but harmless.

Bumzoo · 09/11/2022 19:07

Ewwww that looks raw to me

Wherediditallgo · 09/11/2022 19:07

That’s fat.

ecnatsid · 09/11/2022 19:08

And this part

I've ate raw turkey in the carvery

Yes that’s raw looking to me!

But why was your DH mortified? No need for him to be feel embarrassed.

Why not?

alottea · 09/11/2022 19:10

Besides the bits of fat, that looks pink and raw. This isnt galmon, so Its meant to be white like chicken.

I think you should see a doctor very soon, because ive heard of people eating raw chicken and ending up hospitalised because they get very ill.

Anoisagusaris · 09/11/2022 19:10

Bits look like fat but the top bit in the first pic looks raw. Horrible looking meat either way!

ecnatsid · 09/11/2022 19:11

@AutumnCrow do you think I'm lying? 😂 why would I?

awakenme · 09/11/2022 19:12

it's raw - I don't blame you for feeling sick.

LynetteScavo · 09/11/2022 19:13

Stick your fingers down your throat? Will you feel better if you get it out of you?

stopbeeping · 09/11/2022 19:13

That's raw I'm shocked they didn't probe it
Ring them now

Report to environmental health

They might want a stool sample to see if it's contaminated with salmonella

Era · 09/11/2022 19:13

Hang on - isnt the top slice gammon and the bottom slice the turkey?

Era · 09/11/2022 19:14

Oh no sorry Ive expanded the photo. Yes that part certainly looks raw. As others have said though, that doesn't mean you will get food poisoning.

alottea · 09/11/2022 19:14

I should add, the symptoms you're describing are from food poisoning, which is very dangerous.

Luana1 · 09/11/2022 19:15

Call 111 if you are seriously in pain. Good you got photos to send to the carvery as that looks raw.

jtaeapa · 09/11/2022 19:15

Rank.

ecnatsid · 09/11/2022 19:17

@Era no, gammon is other side of the plate I'd pretty much ate all of the gammon at that point.
