I've ate raw turkey in the carvery

Hi,

Wondering what to do. Had a carvery with DH, I had gammon, he had turkey. He drowned his in mint gravy (hence why I couldn't tell it was raw initially). He didn't like it, didn't say why but he's picky with food anyway so I ate some, it was really moist, flavourless but it wasn't so bad and then on my fourth or so bite it was like absolute jelly. I stopped there, moved pieces about and seen the underneath layers looked raw?

At this point, I called staff but they were really busy and I had a screaming 1 year old and tired and fed up 3 year old. I left, with the intention to call back. I couldn't get through, I'm guessing because it was busy.

Now I'm having cramps and sweats but I don't know if I've somehow got myself paranoid.

What do I do? And now terrified of puking because I have a fear of being sick Sad

That looks raw to me too.

Looks raw to me, unusual for a carvery as it would be spotted at the point of carving. However, I don’t get how you found time to take photos, start a post on here (what do you want from us?) and yet don’t say that you’ve called the restaurant to discuss your concerns. Was this actually tonight?

They did actually say they did try to call if you read the OP.

I was at a friends once and they had served chicken. I bit into mine and it was clearly raw inside. It was cold inside, the texture was totally different to cooked chicken. It wasn't jelly like - almost firmer (like eating raw tuna/salmon as opposed to cooked tuna/salmon).

Being eternally British, I smiled carried on chewing and swallowed it down saying how delicious it was, then politely tried to push the rest around my plate.

I didn't have any adverse effects at all. Maybe due to all the wine that was washed down with it, creating a form of ceviche in my stomach.

Someone once asked though, how is it we can eat some birds rare but not others? Game is quite often served rare and pink isn't it.

Turkey 'roll' which this may have been can often seem jelly like I think - even when fully cooked. Like the stuff you buy sliced, in packets at the supermarket.

Whether it's raw or not, and who's fault it was aside, if you get food poisoning from it you will be in no doubt about it.

There is an absolute world of difference between feeling a bit sick and hot, and being in the throes of a bout of food poisoning, so if you've got to ask, you're fine.

Ivyy · 10/11/2022 10:37

Agree if you get food poisoning from it it'll be fast think mine was 6 hours later, and you'll be in no doubt whether it is food poisoning or not, it's horrendous. Hope you don't get it op but if you start feeling worse call the docs. Not pleasant I know but in that scenario I'd get a stool sample as well as I'd want to escalate things and report it if it did end up being food poisoning.

Wth with the comments doubting your story and suggesting you should have done this or that Confused

Not necessarily the case. Campylobacter can take up to 5 days to show its very ugly head.

Ihaveacrush · 10/11/2022 11:15

Yuck, definitely raw. Poor you... Hope you're okay and it was just anxiety. I would be exactly the same and previous food poisoning is why I don't eat meat in restaurants any more.

Mine was a piece of raw chicken in a dish at a well-known Mexican chain.

I was ill about 24 hours later (no sickness but diarrhoea 20+ times a day for a few days, then still feeling awful with loose stools for nearly a month after). Ended up giving a stool sample, diagnosed with campylobacter and had antibiotics. Had to fill out form for environmental health, giving info on where I'd eaten, any pre-packaged bought food etc in preceding 48 hours.

cynical lawyer here. Loads of people falsify claims. I’m just confused as to why it wasn’t raised there and then

Arenanewbie · 10/11/2022 11:21

Hope you are ok OP. It’s awful experience even to suspect that the meat is raw let along to eat it especially when you have small kids to care for.

When you have a fussy 1 yr old, staff are running about and it's hectic, and you have somewhere else to be, sometimes it's just not always possible. Taking photos and keeping the receipt as a time stamp seems like a very sensible thing to do.
