Heated Airer

MoriaRoseForever · 08/11/2022 11:01

I don’t have a garden or a balcony , smallish flat . I try to avoid using the tumble dryer and have a basic airer I use , but it takes ages to dry . In past years I’ve put clothes on radiators . But I’m avoiding using heating and also it’s not good to have damp clothes hanging around .

I have tried using a dehumidifier . In a smaller room and using a sheet over the airer . Seems to take ages and not dry well .

So was thinking of a heater airer .

it’s just for two people . So tend to wash a laid every three days .

Bedding gets hung over a door , so only clothes and towels .

Also , is it worth waiting for Black Friday deals ?

thanks

We have one from Argos, it was a wedding present but I think was about £50. It’s brilliant, we can fry a load on it with the dehumidifier on in about 2-3hrs. But you need to move stuff around on it.

So you’d recommend heated Airer and dehumidifier? Thanks .

I have one from Lakeland which is brilliant. In fact this is out second one as the first broke through overuse! Would not be without it.

caramac04 · 08/11/2022 19:43

I think heated airers are good. If you can stretch to the Lakeland one it’s brilliant. Easily dries 2-3 loads overnight. You can buy a cover for it but I’ve heard a double sheet or duvet cover works well too.

Is that the dry soon ? It seems to be out of stock all the time .

Out of stock everywhere. Everyone thinks it's the way ahead

Cleebope2 · 08/11/2022 21:16

Forget it. Been trying to get the Argos or Amazon one for awhile for dd in studentville… none left anywhere.

Cleebope2 · 08/11/2022 21:17

Dunelm sold out too. Anyone know where they are in stock?

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 08/11/2022 21:22

I had to get one from B&M but keep an eye on Dunelm as they restock them quite frequently. I love mine. I did a whole load of the DC's today on it, I just move things around quickly whenever I walk past to even out the drying which, I think, makes it quicker. Added bonus is it created heat so it is like having a small radiator on at the same time.

I want a Lakeland one when they come back in stock.

We have a log burner so I try and do washing in the day then pop on an airer near the 🔥

I appreciate its not viable for everyone, but I absolutely love our log burner, although the price of a bag of logs has gone up 50% 😬😬

I got a refurbished Lakeland Dry Soon from their EBay shop. £75 for the deluxe 3 tier. I love it. <saddo> 😆

UglyNess · 08/11/2022 23:05

I think I must be doing something wrong as we have the big Lakeland one with cover and still takes over a day to dry a load on it! What am I missing?!

demotedreally · 08/11/2022 23:10

@ugliness we've recently moved house and thr airer is in a much smaller room, the house is overall much warmer and a half load is now dry within a few hours. A massive difference from the last house which was always 24h. (Half load as I always hang big items on the ceiling pulley)

tinkerbellvspredator · 08/11/2022 23:12

I had a lake land one with a cover a few years back. Didn't rate it, sure it dried things faster but still took ages. Any problem with damp would be exactly the same whether you put the wet washing on a radiator or heated airer.
I'm also a bit dubious about the cost savings- yes cheaper than a tumble dryer but more expensive than a non Heated airer or radiators (if you'd have them on anyway).

Bobbybobbins · 08/11/2022 23:24

We have a Lakeland heated airer and I love it. Put it on overnight with a dehumidifier and it's great. Used to put stuff on radiators but house then always felt cold and damp. Not entirely convinced about cheapness but we don't have a tumbler anyway.

Chocoholic1972 · 08/11/2022 23:38

I ran our tumble dryer yesterday and checked the smart meter. It cost 40p for an hour. It surprised me, it's bad enough I know, but I thought it would be far more expensive.

Like air fryers ! Mind I bought one and like it ! Now dipping toe into heated airer territory!

I did wonder about damp.

Seems it still causes damp, no need the dehumidifier then ? As you say, then it’s not that cheap .

We use a dehumidifier in the (small) bathroom, as a PP said you do need to move it around every so often as the washing closest to it dries the quickest but our bathroom gets toasty warm & it dries pretty quickly.
