Heated Airer

MoriaRoseForever · 08/11/2022 11:01

I don’t have a garden or a balcony , smallish flat . I try to avoid using the tumble dryer and have a basic airer I use , but it takes ages to dry . In past years I’ve put clothes on radiators . But I’m avoiding using heating and also it’s not good to have damp clothes hanging around .

I have tried using a dehumidifier . In a smaller room and using a sheet over the airer . Seems to take ages and not dry well .

So was thinking of a heater airer .

it’s just for two people . So tend to wash a laid every three days .

Bedding gets hung over a door , so only clothes and towels .

Also , is it worth waiting for Black Friday deals ?

thanks

I ran our tumble dryer yesterday and checked the smart meter. It cost 40p for an hour. It surprised me, it's bad enough I know, but I thought it would be far more expensive.

And if people are using dehumidifier and heated airer it won’t be that cheap, although suppose cheaper .

I'm sorry as it's not helpful for you now, but Lakeland actually had a restock yesterday, I know as I bought one.

I recommend giving them a call, as I got in touch a week ago and they were able to tell me in advance that they were adding more to the website yesterday. Hopefully you'll be able to purchase one soon.

I gave up trying to dry washing indoors now I do 3 or 4 loads on one day and take it to the laundrette, I can get all 4 loads in one big dryer, 30 mins £5 and it's all done and dry in one go and not hanging about the house.

I find the combination of heated airer and dehumidifier works the best for drying stuff without the heating on. But like a pp said, you do have to move stuff around on it and load it up in way that means as much of your laundry is touching the warm bars.

Our dehumidifier costs about 6p an hour but it dries everything whereas I'm not sure id tumble dry everything (plus we don't even have one!) they are cheaper to buy initially as well

It's one of the winged ones. Was £50 if I remember right. It's very good although I imagine lakeland ones are better just simply because they are bigger.

SamBeckettslastleap · 09/11/2022 09:26

I don't think it is worth the outlay if you already have a tumble dryer.

SamBeckettslastleap · 09/11/2022 09:28

Most cost 10p+ a hour and need to be on for several then add the dehumidifier costs and the initial outlay I can't see that they are the panacea.

I have bought one as I don't have a tumble dryer and they are cheaper than running the central heating.

Badger1970 · 09/11/2022 09:30

I've got the Lakeland one and wouldn't be without it. We use it in the spare room and it dries overnight. I tend to use the dryer still for bedding but it's amazing not to have jeans shrinking anymore! It's made a massive difference to our electricity use.

Nolosomi · 09/11/2022 09:49

You can put your normal clothes drying rack against a radiator and drape a sheet over the washing rack AND radiator. This is what I’m doing. I turn all the other radiators off and just keep on the one I’m using to dry stuff. It works well.

Thanks . I can wait a while , but would like to buy in next few weeks.

Also wondering about Black Friday deals .

Hadn’t thought of that . Might check out prices at local launderette.

How long does yours take to dry a load ?

I have a dehumidifier, with a laundry setting , and it does seem to take a long time .

Mines a Lakeland dry soon refurbished one from ebay. Not had any problems with it and it is much cheaper than from Lakeland themselves.

I have one from Lakeland which is brilliant. In fact this is out second one as the first broke through overuse! Would not be without it.

Mine is also from Lakeland. It’s useless. I can have it on all night and the clothes aren’t dry.

LisaJool · 09/11/2022 10:10

I bought a knock off one from Home Bargains and it was rubbish. I made my own one by putting clothes on the clothes horse, sticking a blow heater underneath and throwing a sheet over the top to trap the heat. It's working really well!

ChimChimeny · 09/11/2022 10:22

Probs 6/7 hours in total but it's quicker in the bathroom because it's small & enclosed & gets toasty warm. Took longer when we had it in the kitchen/diner.
