I love the fact that in 20 minutes I can be out in the countryside on a walk up a mountain, or the seaside, or a cliff walk. But I'm 10 minutes walk from a decent band venue, theatre and cinema and good restaurants.

The beaches, the views, the birds, the fact that I can walk or cycle anywhere, the way all the kids walk and cycle about the town by themselves from age 6/7, the swimming pool, our epic sledging hill.

Lagoon, sky, peaceful people and year round warmth

Theoldwoman · 08/11/2022 01:16

That we have mild winters, warm to hot summers, no daylight savings, shops open on a Sunday’s 11-5 only, laid back feels.

Very close to workplace (under a mile) also access to nice rural walks on the door step but excellent transport links and lots of local amenities.

Palmface · 08/11/2022 03:57

I can see/ hear the sea from my house, as well as the forest on the nearby mountain. Community is strong, kind and very open. Lots of cafes and a few pubs, including a theatre. Only an hour to a major city, and 20 mins to a smaller city for anything we need. It's perfect and I'm never moving!

Loungingstevens · 08/11/2022 04:05

Being so close to a walkable beach that is practically empty outside of peak months

freyamay74 · 08/11/2022 06:44

Being near the sea, but able to get to decent cafes, pubs, supermarkets etc within 15 minutes. Being part of a community but being fortunate to live in a detached cottage in a plot which is configured so that the garden isn't overlooked and isn't slap bang up against other gardens. Having had the misfortune to have noisy neighbours in the past who did everything in their house and garden at top volume, it was utter bliss to move here. My quality of life improved massively overnight.

BarrelOfOtters · 08/11/2022 07:04

Quiet neighbours are a blessing.

I'm on the edge of a tiny hamlet in the middle of nowhere. Very rural, fields, valleys, trees, woodlands for miles. Lanes so tiny and winding that many only have passing places and mostly no traffic at all.
I just love the fact that there's just no-one here!!

Notplayingball · 08/11/2022 07:23

Lots of country walks for the dog. Lots of fresh air. Love it.

NewHopeNow · 08/11/2022 07:25

That my house is detached and nowhere near London.

FrightfullyFreezy · 08/11/2022 07:41

• Plenty of places to walk locally
• Friendly people
• Relaxed area where most people aren't bothered by a bit of noise
• Safe enough for dc to play out on the street with their friends

orangetriangle · 08/11/2022 07:48

Zippedydoo123 · 08/11/2022 08:15

No mortgage.
Handy bus route.
Near a corner shop.
Garden front and back.

sanityisamyth · 08/11/2022 08:18

How much there is to do. DS does so much after school but it's all within a 10-15 minute drive. Tennis, Cubs, swimming, ice skating, scuba diving, cricket, air pistol shooting and has his own pony at a local riding school. Very close to the sea too (handy for taking the pony for a gallop in the waves!)

MidnightConstellation · 08/11/2022 14:30

I need to know where you all live!

Zippedydoo123 · 09/11/2022 09:22

Apart from its pluses as I do not come from here you can only make friends with fellow outsiders. Moved here in my forties and the place is very insular. Including the neighbours.
