I love the fact that in 20 minutes I can be out in the countryside on a walk up a mountain, or the seaside, or a cliff walk. But I'm 10 minutes walk from a decent band venue, theatre and cinema and good restaurants.

I live in a deprived town, lots of poverty and not much culture BUT I am 2 mins from the estuary and sea and can walk in either direction along the sea wall. Love the bleakness of the marshes and our coastal birds too

ifonly4 · 07/11/2022 19:16

Quiet road, yet choice of character pubs, takeaways, two supermarkets, other shops, school, bus stop to large regency town are all within an eight minute walk. A nice 20 min walk takes you to the edge of a local hill which is highest point of Cotswolds and has great views and a pub at top. Also, lots of nice very local walks. People who move here rarely move away elsewhere afterwards as they all love it. Only thing we don't have is the sea.

SunflowerSmith · 07/11/2022 19:51

I'm in the Midlands, 10 minutes from a small city, 5 minute walk to a large country park, 5 minutes drive to a huge forest.

I like having the convenience of decent shopping within a short car drive but no crowds, and loads of open spaces nearby for walking.

I also love being in the middle of the country so nowhere is too far for a holiday or daytrip plus we often miss out on the severe weather as it fizzles out before it gets here.

mathanxiety · 07/11/2022 19:51

Great public transport, lovely parks and rec facilities, fantastic local library, very walkable, very safe, village feel but only about 20 mins by car from a major US city on the highway, snowy winters, and this year a glorious display of colour on the big, mature trees that line all the streets.

Chomolungma · 07/11/2022 19:54

I like being able to go for a run across fields from my doorstep, while also being close to a medium sized town and within commuting distance of London.

CakeEatersRUs · 07/11/2022 19:58

Walking distance to a good supermarket

Walking distance to around 7 playparks and some lovely lake walks

Train station 10 mins away

Close to schools

Close to leisure centre and swimming

Close to all of our dc after school activities

Some days I don't need to use the car

Lovely neighbours

Peaceful

The town council really try to put on small events - music funfairs bulb planting christmas market summer fayre etc to have a sense of community.

Twilight7777 · 07/11/2022 19:59

That most of my family live within 5 minutes drive

KirstenBlest · 07/11/2022 20:00

That it's close to nice areas

OneCup · 07/11/2022 20:02

Leafy and quiet.
Within walking distance to town

heidbuttsupper · 07/11/2022 20:03

I like the fact that there are plenty of transport options to get out. I absolutely hate it even though I know that many people would consider it beyond their wildest dreams and have said as much.

I need,to know where you live, very intrigued!

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 07/11/2022 20:06

It's kind. Honestly the kindest place I've ever lived. People genuinely care about their neighbours and the wider community.

89redballoons · 07/11/2022 20:08

I'm in a suburb of a major city. I've moved around a fair bit but now moved back to where I grew up, about 10 minutes' walk from my childhood home actually.

I am really deeply settled here. It feels very cosy and historic. We're close to an ancient bit of common land, and our local church has had a church on that site for 1,000 years.

I love that I can see the hospital where my children were born from my bedroom window.

We have some great facilities within walking distance - playgrounds, libraries, swimming pool, high street with butcher and greengrocer - and lovely neighbours with kids the same age who play with mine. My mum is also still round the corner.

I feel very lucky to have grown up here and to be able to bring my own babies up here too.

LT2 · 07/11/2022 20:13

You are within walking distance to all you need - quiet walks in wooded areas, shops, restaurants, cafes, a river, schools, pubs, baby clubs (my life atm!), parks, great links to Cambridge (on guided bus route), most of all - my family are all near.

Mañanarama · 07/11/2022 20:14

That my kids can walk to school, their friends houses, the gym, pool, library, park, shops and a few little cafes, all within 15 minutes.

That in the other direction there is nothing for miles but fields, woodland, farms, streams and a lovely country pub.

So many benefits, but I still don’t love it here and we’ll move once the kids leave home.

JulesCobb · 07/11/2022 20:16

Im in a well appointed village on a train line to a major city. Five minute walk and I’m in the countryside. The setting of our train station is beautiful.

TravellingSpoon · 07/11/2022 20:20

I live in multicultural area and involve it. From where I live i can walk and get food from so many different parts of the world.

Season0fTheWitch · 07/11/2022 20:32

The house is in the middle of a big square plot so the side and front gardens are all big, keeping us far from any other humans and made it easier when planning building work

BankyWollocks · 07/11/2022 20:34

chisum · 07/11/2022 17:30

I've got my ponies at home and can see them from the house

Living the dream 😃
Love the view of the meadow and the sea from my terrace, I like the fact that I can get to London on the fast train
I love our small independent shops that are well supported and that we are a well kept secret

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 07/11/2022 20:38

I am a 10 min walk from a beautiful crystal clear lake that we can swim in during the summer, loads of biking and walking tracks, views of the mountains and a 40 min drive to the ski field in the winter months. Weather is generally great with very noticeable seasons, would prefer it if it wasn't quite so cold though!
Its also really safe and we haven't locked our house or car for years.

ShirleyHolmes · 07/11/2022 20:39

I’m sure I live in the same place as OP!

I love living in a v small city. I can walk to shops and restaurants, 3 beautiful parks, the beach, the University, theatre, arena, cinema etc. Loads of other gorgeous beaches within a short drive. Mountains half an hour away.

GoodnightJude1 · 07/11/2022 20:39

The pub 😁

it’s the best pub ever….full of my favourite people 😁

Thighdentitycrisis · 07/11/2022 20:46

I try to think of the things I would miss if I could move away.

I live in a rich and diverse multi cultural area and meet people from all walks of life. There are shopping, leisure and eating facilities within walking distance, likewise transport links to the rest of the city.
I have good neighbours, enough space and a garden.

Billyhargrovesmullet · 07/11/2022 21:27

Surrounded by countryside, 20 minutes to two cities & 45 mins to the coast

BarrelOfOtters · 07/11/2022 22:32

I like to be able to walk to a pub and a shop and work…so can’t be too out in the countryside.
