I love the fact that in 20 minutes I can be out in the countryside on a walk up a mountain, or the seaside, or a cliff walk. But I'm 10 minutes walk from a decent band venue, theatre and cinema and good restaurants.

The view from my window, the park on my doorstep, the sound of birds in the morning, the peacefulness and prettiness of the streets around me, I am walking distance from Hyde Park and the centre of London, my commute to my office.

Windingdown · 07/11/2022 17:29

The multicultural vibrancy, energy, youth, arts, culture, parks, connectivity, transport links, libraries and all a big, bustling city has to offer. It's my city of birth and I feel connected to it by an invisible cord. I didn't realise how strong that pull was until I moved away. Having travelled and lived elsewhere I am so happy and grateful to be back in my place amongst my friends and so many people who love this city.

chisum · 07/11/2022 17:30

I've got my ponies at home and can see them from the house

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/11/2022 17:33

That I live in a well connected town that is midway between 2 cities , both with a different vibe, but I can access them both within 20 minutes.

MrsDThomas · 07/11/2022 17:34

very rural, off grid (gas and sewage), 3 miles from the shop, mountains, elevation, sheep, air quality, few miles from the sea.

littleworld187 · 07/11/2022 17:35

Probably having pretty much everything we need on our doorstep

Essexexile · 07/11/2022 17:58

Five minutes walk from lovely countryside, great transport links to two major cities, excellent local pub and 20 minute drive to several really good restaurants. There’s a friendly community feel too.

RosaGallica · 07/11/2022 18:01

The natural environment.

I don’t like the people much, they are too much the product of Britain’s cultural and political direction of the last 25 years.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 07/11/2022 18:10

A few people on this thread live near me! I love the community, living near the sea and being able to step out of my house and onto a countryside walk with my dog. We can be in the Lakes, Manchester or Liverpool in about an hour.

theemmadilemma · 07/11/2022 18:15

Our huge garden and the fields behind and the feeling of not being surrounded. Fresh air, no light pollution. Friendly people.

ThreeRingCircus · 07/11/2022 18:20

I like that I'm on the edge of a large town. Easy walk into town for restaurants, shopping, cinema, train station means I can by in the nearby city in under 30 mins from leaving home.

But as I'm on the edge if I go the other direction I'm in the countryside for walks, picnics and just general space. It's the best of both worlds.

MidnightConstellation · 07/11/2022 18:26

I really want to know where you all live.
I like the regular public transport which gets me into town easily. I like having a free book group , and and other groups which I enjoy attending.

That's it to be honest. I don't enjoy most other things about where I live and want to move.
I'm looking for good public transport links, proximity to the sea preferably, but woodland, countryside walks etc are really important
Lack of heavy traffic, built up areas and too many people.
A mix of ages .
Access to culture. Most of all I'm looking for community, which is totally lacking where I am at the moment.

Allicando · 07/11/2022 18:26

I live in a beautiful market town that has lots of visitors, lots of indie shops / cafes / restaurants. Beautiful parks and a river plus can be in the countryside in minutes. Most people are proud to live here and I love that. When I go out running I pinch myself that I get to live in this beautiful part of the country (only moved here last year from a gritty city).

abbey44 · 07/11/2022 18:28

I live across the road from the sea, on the edge of a lovely little village. I love waking up every morning to the sound of the waves and being able to walk my dog on the beach. If I want more razzmatazz, there’s a town a couple of miles away and the fast train to London takes less than an hour. I feel so lucky to live where I do (and I found it from a random suggestion on Mumsnet too!)

Andanotherginplease · 07/11/2022 18:29

I love that I live in a village with wonderful neighbours. It's the place where I've always felt at home and never looked moving away from.

ShakeYourFeathers · 07/11/2022 18:32

That I am 15 mins away from 5 beaches.

mamabear715 · 07/11/2022 18:33

It's quite new hence very warm, near the city & was cheap! :-)
What's not to love?

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 07/11/2022 18:40

Beautiful hiking, climbing and fell running from the doorstep. Everything from a nice dog walk to a really gnarly category A fell run.

Pubs where drinks cost £3 a pint.

People are nice.

A surprisingly brilliant pizza place.

Plenty of nice/wanky bakeries but also an aldi.

Madeyoulook · 07/11/2022 18:43

I can walk to the sea and if I drive to the top of the hill I can see across the whole city.

AnotherCountryMummy · 07/11/2022 18:43

Views of rolling fields, no neighbours, being in a National Park, coming home to the countryside after any time in the city... Cannot beat it.

NameChangeLifeChange · 07/11/2022 18:50

We live in a lovely little city suburb which feels like a village as we are always bumping into friends of ours and DC at events/wandering out and about. 10 min tram or cycle into a vibrant city centre. Good schools with great PTA so decent funding and loads of enrichment activities and great SEN support.

I grew up rurally in a desirable part of the country and absolutely hated it. I couldn’t wait to move to near civilisation and I still feel a thrill when I walk out of work and there’s bars, shops and culture everywhere around. Teenage me is living her best life even with 2 small kids!

PollyAmour · 07/11/2022 18:54

Another person who has the sea on her doorstep, beautiful mountain views, yet easy access to a big city should I feel the need.

lljkk · 07/11/2022 18:57

Pros: Easy to cycle almost everywhere I want to go. Big green spaces. Train station.

Cons: small town everyone knows everyone & their business. Far from work.

troppibambini6 · 07/11/2022 18:58

Really good friends and community, 20
Minutes into Manchester City centre but countryside literally on my doorstep. 10 minute walk to really lovely national trust place.

The opposite of that! I love that I live in the countryside and can go on walks everywhere around me, but I'm only 20 minutes from a city with lots of things going on.
