Have just looked up no.9, it wasn't a hit, heard it on the radio the other day. It's by a male, sort of folk, singer songwriter who was married to a female singer songwriter in the 70s.

@Honeyroar - some more info. Apparently it was released in 1991. Indie-rock/power pop (according to some).

I've omitted the first line as it includes the song title, but here are some more lyrics:
