Do you treat yourself on pay-day?

We were chatting in the office today and a few of my work pals were talking about the things they'd ordered on payday / what's arrived

Shoes, make-up, headphones, books...

I feel like I've ot bought myself anything in ages (not goady - I'm not rich but not skint. Both have decent ish jobs and we live in a cheap area of the North east so low mortgage etc)

I was definitely the odd one out at not pay day splurging! I mean I'm browsing now but nothing has caught me eye!

No I don't. I usually bosh a chunk in savings and leave it for the end of the month depending on what's left.

No, because I don't live paycheck to paycheck

This.

I have the income to buy whatever I want during the month. I dont need to wait til payday. I am not a big spender more of a saver.

And if I get to the point of needing to "treat" myself on a monthly basis because I hate my job so much. I think it's time to get a different job.

Whatsleftnow · 05/11/2022 15:38

Save on payday, and have a little treat at the end of the month if there’s money leftover.

Rowthe · 05/11/2022 15:41

In fact I find it quite difficult to spend.

I'm a saver by nature, I dont understand the concept of needing a treat on a monthly basis. but luckily I have enough money to last the month, so I'm not dependant on the next payday for my Bill's. And also have some savings.

liveforsummer · 05/11/2022 15:43

No, my wages don't even cover my bills. No splurging can happen

Rowthe · 05/11/2022 15:47

micedontpaint · 05/11/2022 15:30

Yes I do. I like to enjoy life. I want to enjoy every single day. I treat myself and daughter and/or friend and/or parent to a meal out a month. I treat my husband to a takeaway (he pays all the bills), I stock up on my skincare and beauty products including vitamins, and I do a luxury food shop (husband pays the food bill) which includes superfluous items such as processed foods so we can have a cheese and wine night.

What's life without enjoyment?

You can do all these things, not sure why you would have to wait til pay day unless you were struggling with cash.

What do you mean? Why wouldn't I wait until payday? That's when I get paid.

BabyClubYEEAAH · 05/11/2022 15:59

I treat myself everyday 💃🏼

im terrible with money.

Oblomov22 · 05/11/2022 16:07

No. I've never done this, ever.

Season0fTheWitch · 05/11/2022 16:08

I actively plan a shopping trip on payday, usually just things for the kids but sometimes for me

Zippedydoo123 · 05/11/2022 16:11

I only spend what I can afford. My main treat is seeing the beautician twice a month. Though she is very affordable.

I only buy absolute essentials. Though that does include decent skincare and make up.

Teeshirt · 05/11/2022 16:13

No. I just don’t think that way. I don’t really treat myself like that. I might buy some biscuits if I feel like a treat, or some chocolate, but I wouldn’t wait till payday.

cushioncovers · 05/11/2022 16:19

I usually treat myself to a takeaway on payday but that's it.

I do all that you do, but whenever we want to. But don't wait til pay day.

As said already.

Is the only reason you do this because you cant afford to do this mid month?

mamaduckbone · 05/11/2022 16:47

Not really, but might get a takeaway or treat the family to lunch out (that's what we did today)
I buy stuff that I need when I need it.

I think a 6pack every fortnight would count aa 'drinking generally'!!

Aye ok, best get myself down to the local AA asap! There are some proper miserable fuckers around here.

Also, what's with all the Sneary posts about people who live payday to payday. That is the reality for lots of us.

SavingsThreads · 05/11/2022 17:51

@meatballsoup

I didn't say it made you an alcoholic Hmm

But 'I don't generally drink' and 'I drink 12 cans a month' don't match.

What do you count as drinking?

meatballsoup · 05/11/2022 17:56

It's actually small bottles & My sons usually help themselves to a few. So yeah I would consider that a small amount.

Exactly. A lot of people have to live payday to payday. I’ll do what I want whenever I want to.

onlythreenow · 05/11/2022 19:42

I'm stuggling to understand how you all cope with a monthly payday. It's uncommon where I am, usually people get paid weekly, or fortnightly.

Ponderingwindow · 05/11/2022 20:28

Budgeting should be annual. How frequently you are paid should be irrelevant. it should be a reliable date so you can be sure to pay large predictable bills, but beyond that it should not matter because spending defined by pay periods means you will always be in trouble financially.

Cuddlywuddlies · 05/11/2022 20:41

@onlythreenow i don’t know anyone anymore that gets paid weekly. I know a few that get paid fortnightly, most people is monthly. Like @Ponderingwindow said though it really shouldn’t really make a difference if you are managing your money right.

Big bills come out monthly normally so it’s fairly normal I’ve been paid weekly and needed to be strict with myself about putting money away every payday

user1487194234 · 05/11/2022 20:46

Yes
Every pay day I buy a new lipstick,a new book and new shoes:/boots

userxx · 05/11/2022 21:00

Not really no, I'm more of a saver than a spunker. If I want something I'll buy it at some point.
