Our house is half renovated - dh is a builder so he's been doing all the work for what feels like decades but there are some unfinished areas to be avoided!

I'm beyond excited and was looking for a cleaner so will book them weekly or bi-weekly if they're good

How does it work? Do I hand keys over and go out?

Wonder what they'll get done!!

Our cleaner used to come while I was at work - DH works from home and he would hide in another room. Since I have WFH I move into the from room after she has done that and she can just get on with the rest of the house.

You can tell her what you want to be done. We told get her to do bedrooms but she does downstairs, bathroom and hoovers stairs and landing, Makes a huge difference to our lives

Thanks @downtonupton

Juat read their Facebook page and they insist that nobody is home. Not sure how that works with a 1 off clean 🤔

You have to decide if you want them to do a deep clean of one or two areas or the normal weekly clean. In 2 hrs my cleaner surface cleans 2 bathrooms, 3 beds, living room, downstairs loo and kitchen plus hoovering and mopping. If I want her to do skirtings/woodwork/windows something else has to drop.

Thanks @masterbakeoff I've got a week and a half until they come

It's 2 cleaners for 1 hour. I can't wait - going to focus on the last of my de-cluttering (I've been quite ruthless recently)

The biggest problem I have is dh - he used to be a builder - we have a lot of half finished areas in our house 😫

You’ve won a 2 hr clean, yet they insist you leave while they clean? Not burglars are they OP?

Emily1583 · 05/11/2022 22:02

Let them know what you'd like done. I'd personally choose chores I can never bothered with such as cleaning skirting boards, cleaning kitchen cupboards, and the oven.

She's sent me her PLI docs so I hope not 🤣

I'd remove all clutter and get them to deep-clean kitchen, ubathrooms and living room and hall as thoroughly as time allows anyway!

Can you use it as an excuse to get your DH to finish off some of the jobs that are "nearly there" next weekend?

Propertyporn · 05/11/2022 22:23

They insist no one is home? So they refuse to do elderly or disabled people that are housebound? I'm a cleaner and agree it's much better when the owner isn't home as you can really get on with the job and don't have to put on your customer service face. But insisting people leave the home is extreme!

I'm pushing for a couple of bits - mainly that he finishes the skirting boards in the living room and removes the bloody painters tape from the floor

He also needs to shift all the tools, bits of woos etc to the giant shed he built himself in the summer that I've been nagging him about

To be fair I also need to sort out my craft stuff and the piles of lego that me and ds have been building 🤣

Well definitely be out

I'll be at work and dh is off that day but says he'd rather just let them in and disappear

I’d would be suspicious of someone I didn’t know, wanting to be in my house and stipulating the house must be empty. Especially as you have won this.

Even if she has sent her PLI docs to you.

I thought is was standard for the house to be empty, I'll look into it some more.

Their reviews are excellent

If your anything like my DM, clean the house before they arrive 🤣

Haha, are you my dh? This is what he said

Honestly, I'm going to really try not to

I'm de-cluttering and pestering dh to shift his arse.

I'm hoping to book regular cleans so I'm desperately hoping they're great

I'm back full time for the first time in years + an hour commute each way. The house is definitely suffering!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/11/2022 19:53

Really hope it’s genuine OP.

sorry for being suspicious. But I’ve never had a cleaner ask for an empty house before. It would make me wonder what they intended to do in my absence. A trusted cleaner I’d known for years wouldn’t bother me, but someone totally new…it would ring alarm bells.

Workyticket · 06/11/2022 21:59

Assuming 1 cleaner goes upstairs and 1 does downstairs we wouldn't have anywhere for dh to be in the house really

Downstairs is pretty open plan. Sitting room then our open kitchen / utility / living area extension. Upstairs is just 2 bedrooms and the bathroom 🤔

They're coming on Friday - I'm beyond excited. I stalked their Facebook page and messaged someone whose house clean pics they'd posted. She said they'd been wary too at first but all has been great

Dh has come round to the idea and has done a tip run to get rid of stuff I've been asking him to shift for ages in preparation!

How did your clean go? @Workyticket

Really well - they came at the arranged time and did a good job

They did the bathroom (big walk in shower, separate bath etc) 2 bedrooms, landing and stairs and the living room

Didn't get chance to start the back room or kitchen but everything they did is a good standard

I've booked 2.5 hours every other Friday and see if it makes a notable difference to our down time 😀

That's brilliant @Workyticket. Glad it worked out for you.
