Are people just not testing for covid any more?

I have cold like symptoms with head and achiness
Should I just have gone into work anyway?

I do test because I have a box of tests on a drawer but when that runs out, I won't anymore.

slavetothekittens · 02/11/2022 11:57

I test if I think I may have symptoms. For my own peace of mind, I guess. One negative, one positive ( which I kept on testing for until it showed negative again)

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 02/11/2022 11:59

I tested this week because a hobby has had an outbreak. I had no more than a very slight runny nose and my test was positive.

I don't test

Tillow4ever · 02/11/2022 12:02

We have a few boxes of tests left, so will test if we have symptoms and are planning to leave the house! I am allowed to expense a test for work if I need to test if symptomatic to be able to go into the office, so once my tests run out, I would potentially do that... although if I get as ill as I did when I gad Covid in April, I wouldn't want it be able to leave my house.

Biscuits1011 · 02/11/2022 12:03

Don’t really see the point in testing, it doesn’t actually make a lot of difference. I guess if you are able to stay off work or felt really Poorly with it it would be worth knowing, but I recently had it for the second time, I had a cold but felt fine, only tested because I was admitted to hospital and they tested me, otherwise I wouldn’t have known, I felt well enough to work and I would have still gone to work had I not been admitted to hospital for something unrelated. Anyway I just don’t see the point really.

Sestriere · 02/11/2022 12:04

I bought some tests, I look after the elderlies so like to be aware. I tested a couple of weeks ago with a cold, not even a bad one, and it was positive but I don't do andom tests anymore.

madnesss · 02/11/2022 12:05

Don’t really see the point in testing, it doesn’t actually make a lot of difference.

It could still be the difference between life and death for many seriously unwell/vulnerable people.

I test before seeing my very elderly relative and my extremely vulnerable father.

Redup · 02/11/2022 12:05

Of course I will be testing if I have symptoms. Why would I think it's okay to infect other people?

And please don't go in to work when you are ill - whether it's covid or not. It's selfish.

YellowTreeHouse · 02/11/2022 12:06

The overwhelming majority of people aren’t testing anymore, no.

It’s really simple: it doesn’t matter what you’re ill with. Cold, flu, covid, whatever it is. If you feel well enough to go into work, do. If you don’t, dont.

Hbh17 · 02/11/2022 12:08

Of course they're not testing - it is a pointless activity, and makes no difference to anything.

CakeCrumbs44 · 02/11/2022 12:08

I haven't been testing with mild symptoms. I'm not doing a test every time me or my kids have a runny nose, sore throat, cough. They're preschoolers so they have those symptoms all the time.

I did test a few weeks ago when I had a temperature as it's unusual for me. Turns out it wasn't COVID, it was tonsillitis.

Sniffypete · 02/11/2022 12:09

If you're feeling ill, then don't go to work.

Vinorosso74 · 02/11/2022 12:10

I started with mild cold symptoms on Monday. Negative then and yesterday. Tested again this morning and positive. Was supposed to be travelling by train for a funeral later in the week, not going now as it wouldn't be fair to knowingly infect people. Just hope I can get a refund as it cost £120!
Would only test with symptoms, we have loads of tests as we ordered loads while they were still free.
Disclaimer: I had cancer treatment which is why. Yes, I should still qualify for free tests but it doesn't happen!

Claretmum · 02/11/2022 12:10

Our employer has told us if we show any signs of respiratory illness we must stay at home for 5 days - and work if able to do so. This is whether it is Covid or not.

ifonly4 · 02/11/2022 12:11

Lots of people I know, including ourselves test. I work for a large pharmacy and tests sell out within hours of being placed on the shelves.

You've done the right thing OP, until you know for sure if it's a cold or covid.

We felt really ill with covid, and I genuinely wouldn't want to pass it onto anyone else.

WildFlowerBees · 02/11/2022 12:11

I don't think the tests are particularly good at picking up the newer variants.

Joolsin · 02/11/2022 12:12

I had a cold a few weeks ago. I tested and it was negative. I then wore a mask to work, which would have been unheard of pre-Covid, but seems obvious now. I wouldn't test randomly any more, only if I had symptoms.

been and done it. · 02/11/2022 12:14

I'm classed as vulnerable so keep an eye on things. I tested 3 weeks ago because H had a random cough and I had the sniffles and felt sick
I did the NHS advisory doc. online but I don't think many people do now..none of the rest of my family bothered when they had it earlier on.

GoldIsMyBirthMetal · 02/11/2022 12:14

No, the vast majority are not testing

Anytimeiseeit · 02/11/2022 12:14

No one I know is testing anymore. I have primary school kids and most parents and children have a cold at the mo, im not aware that anyone has covid or has tested for it, so maybe they have but who knows.

MrsDThomas · 02/11/2022 12:15

I did a test the other day only as i have a heavy cold. Negative and my work colleague was positive.

im back at work today with a box of tissue.

I have some left in the box but it says on my nhs letter to go online and order more as and when necessary- the pharmacy bought ones aren't recognised by the NHS for the AV treatment.

pyjamafashionista · 02/11/2022 12:19

Beginning to wonder what the point of the vaccines even were. Most people I know had them all and are still testing positive. Makes you wonder doesn't it.

Theunamedcat · 02/11/2022 12:20

No because what's the point? You will be told to go to work your kids will have to stay in school unless you want to lose your job and be fined by the school expected behaviour now is come in and carry on yes I get vulnerable people etc etc I'm one of them but also we can't lose jobs because of it
