Should I try for Glasto tickets knowing the big C is knocking on my door?

I dont mean to sound flippant, Im just trying to get my head around it. Yesterday I went to see the haemotologist, my bloods are fine however the lump on my groin is not. Its about 5cm on the ultrasound. Ive had two weeks to google and have given myself some kind of lymphoma. Anyway the chap barely examined me. Well he checked my neck and armpits. Nothing. I went to take my trousers off and he said no keep them on. He touched the lump for ten seconds and said well, you have cancer😮 then he said dont worry dear there is much we can do. Never worry until you have to. He strongly thinks lymphoma and has referred me for a biopsy and my next appointment is in a months time. I feel fekking fine. Small weightloss die to stress and I have been itching for nearly a year which I put down to my new painkillers. God, I just want this biopsy done with as now ive started to imagine secondaries.

anyhoo I havent told my Glasto friends. Should I? Its a nightmare getting tickets but we have been for 20 years. Its our thing. We now glamp. Tickets out tomorrow. Should I go with the flow and try for them? Will it be something to aim for? Is Taylor Swift worth it? Can you go to a festival if youve had chemo? Will it be over with by them?

i feel like im living someone elses life😕

Yes I dreamt it all up 🤔 honestly he was elderly and peppered his speech with dears and not to worries. And im saying nowt else before I get accused of stereotyping. He was probably being paternal with his dears. I know what he said and because Im chatty and familiar with the place I probably encouraged it. Im waiting for the biopsy and that will put an end to it. I thought it was bizarre at the time but Im not complaining. I dont like the way Im being made to feel like Im making it up.

please lodge an official complaint

Treatments for blood cancer have improved enormously in the last couple of decades

What you treatment plan will be like will depend on which sort of lymphoma you have, and I guess that is what the biopsy results will tell them, and yes it can take a couple of weeks to get results back from those sorts of tests.

If you want more info, go to bloodcancer.org.uk/ who have a helpline as well as reliable information on the website

I'd buy the tickets.

I don't think people think you're making things up, I think we're all a bit shocked at how careless he's been with his words, which is the absolute opposite of most people involved in cancer care. My sibling actually changed oncologist to get someone straight-talking because he can't bear the measured, on the one hand this, on the one hand that, let's keep our options open, approach of his first consultant.

I would very strongly suggest you take someone with you when you go for the biopsy results. It really helps to have someone there to reflect back to 'did he actually say that, or am I filling in the blanks'.

Best of luck with that and the tickets!

Sorry, why are more people not concerned about the cancer diagnosis by touching a lump over clothes bit?

Because he suspects a blood cancer, and there is no diagnostic value in touching the raised lymph node. Referral for biopsy is the correct step.

Thank you.

I just called the haemotology nurse who was lovely. My blood results from yesterday are all normal except for one raised enzyme which could also point to lymphoma so at this stage Im expecting it. Just got to wait to get a biopsy now. I really need that biopsy to come soon its driving me mad.

roght i have to do my Glasto admin. Two bus tickets tomorrow and ten normal on Sunday! I better write everyones info down probably. Its such a bloody stressful weekend😃

Yes, absolutely try for tickets! I’ll be trying too, good luck!!
I thought 6 was the most you can try for? You’ll need to try for your own group first then a second group.

Hope you get a date for your biopsy soon. 🤞🏻

weebarra · 03/11/2022 11:01

Yes, get the tickets!
I'm 8 years in remission from breast cancer and I vividly remember that when I was diagnosed, the consultant even seemed to have trouble saying the word cancer. If I'd had English as a second language I could have very easily been confused.
Hope the biopsy tomorrow is ok!

Yes that was my point, I think you misread it

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 03/11/2022 11:04

Hi @EachandEveryone I have cancer (stage 4 breast). My chemo was only just over 3 months for 6 rounds. It's really good to have something to look forward to after because I found the chemo the worst part of the whole thing. Go for it. And over 4 years later I'm still here, treatments are getting better all the time, so enjoy Glastonbury.

rainbowstardrops · 03/11/2022 11:06

I hope you get the tickets and I hope the biopsy goes well. Good luck with both! 🤞🏻

Spidey66 · 03/11/2022 11:13

Glastonbury isn’t my thing, I’ve never been. But in your shoes I’d get tickets. Worst case scenario you can sell the ticket on.

Aestas · 03/11/2022 11:22

Raised LDH, significantly enlarged lymph node, some symptoms of weight loss and itching- lymphoma is a pretty reasonable diagnosis to come to.

I have non-Hodgkins and had a few pussy-footing appointments before the lymphoma bomb was dropped and I'd have rather someone be straight up from the beginning. Also my bloods have always otherwise been normal outside of treatment.

OP I'm currently mid-chemo and antibody therapy and like another poster mentioned it'll be four months ish and- while unpleasant- it's not the worst chemo in the world. Planning something nice for after is a great idea.

EachandEveryone · 03/11/2022 11:34

Whatever happens I will be at the front for Pulp and I will be a twenty year old student again with or without the good hair. And I will be thinking of thirty things I would do to Jarvis Cocker if I had half a chance 😀

Any luck OP?

I queued with a friend but they sold out before we even got to see the booking page.

EachandEveryone · 03/11/2022 19:27

Rubbish! They went in ten minutes never got a sniff and we had 15 people trying. Roll on Sunday. I swear it gets harder every year.

I'm sorry you didn't get the tickets, is there something else you can plan or book to look forward to?

I just wanted to say my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and a pretty dire outcome. He had large tumours in liver and elsewhere. He underwent some pretty intense treatment and is now cancer free.

I hope all goes well for you.

stopbeingacunt · 04/11/2022 19:29

I would be asking questions (complaining).

Aside what others have said, how can he tell you your bloods are 'fine' one day and the next day bloods show the enzymes? The enzymes don't appear to quickly, they normally begin sell before a lump is palpable.

How can lymphoma with such a lump he can diagnosed by the US, yet have blood tests that are fine?

There would be so many indicators, slight at first, like neutropenia, did they do a bloods film or the antibody test all which would (should) show subtle differences, at least?

Sounds like a bit of a shit show to me. As a nurse, didn't you ask about all this?

As for the radiographer; he should not have said anything and that alone warrants flagging up.

If your patient was treated this way and came back to you with 20 questions, would you be impressed with the consultant and radiographer or would you tell the patient how to fight to get the care they deserve?

EachandEveryone · 04/11/2022 21:50

Well Im not a blood specialist far from it!

first bloods done at gp second bloods by the haematologist which where more in depth.

biopsy brought forward and was this morning. He said he's seen thousands of lymphomas and he hopes that this is what it is. And i don't mean he said that in a gleeful way and knew what he meant. He sent four samples off it was a weird experience they go off to Kings College. I know this because this evening the haemotology nurse rang me for the second time this week. Im sorry but I cant slag them off they’ve been upfront and I appreciate that. I cant complain because to me they've been on top of everything and have dealt with it very swiftly. My head is all over the place, Im on my own so too much time to think. This does mean that I have to be practical as Im hours away from my family and its alot to digest.

anyway, Im getting sick of hearing myself talking about it especially when I have to keep justifying things. I actually dont know what to say anymore so Im leaving it now. Meeting is on the 29th I will update then. Unless I get tickets on Sunday 😃

It does sound like they're on top of it and moving everything pretty quickly, that must be some comfort to you.
I hope the biopsy results come back as quick as possible (was two weeks with DH's two separate biopsies) and the results are positive 🤞🏼
