Should I try for Glasto tickets knowing the big C is knocking on my door?

I dont mean to sound flippant, Im just trying to get my head around it. Yesterday I went to see the haemotologist, my bloods are fine however the lump on my groin is not. Its about 5cm on the ultrasound. Ive had two weeks to google and have given myself some kind of lymphoma. Anyway the chap barely examined me. Well he checked my neck and armpits. Nothing. I went to take my trousers off and he said no keep them on. He touched the lump for ten seconds and said well, you have cancer😮 then he said dont worry dear there is much we can do. Never worry until you have to. He strongly thinks lymphoma and has referred me for a biopsy and my next appointment is in a months time. I feel fekking fine. Small weightloss die to stress and I have been itching for nearly a year which I put down to my new painkillers. God, I just want this biopsy done with as now ive started to imagine secondaries.

anyhoo I havent told my Glasto friends. Should I? Its a nightmare getting tickets but we have been for 20 years. Its our thing. We now glamp. Tickets out tomorrow. Should I go with the flow and try for them? Will it be something to aim for? Is Taylor Swift worth it? Can you go to a festival if youve had chemo? Will it be over with by them?

i feel like im living someone elses life😕

I have cancer and stage 4 to boot! Personally I would go for it! You never know what the future holds & I have generally been quite well on treatment. All the best OP.

Theunamedcat · 02/11/2022 12:12

Go for it

EachandEveryone · 02/11/2022 12:23

I just called the haemotology nurse who was lovely. My blood results from yesterday are all normal except for one raised enzyme which could also point to lymphoma so at this stage Im expecting it. Just got to wait to get a biopsy now. I really need that biopsy to come soon its driving me mad.

roght i have to do my Glasto admin. Two bus tickets tomorrow and ten normal on Sunday! I better write everyones info down probably. Its such a bloody stressful weekend😃

So you were told you'd had cancer by a man who didn't bother to check the lump?

mileaminnie · 02/11/2022 12:27

DH was diagnosed with lymphoma December 2020 and was given the all clear (complete remission) May 2021 after 6 rounds of RCHOP chemo.
He felt so well that we went on a month long holiday and had a whale of a time across three different countries. Drinking, dancing, etc Smile

pyjamafashionista · 02/11/2022 12:27

By not getting a ticket is admitting defeat. Positive thoughts only!! Get those tickets!!

Washyourfaceinmysink · 02/11/2022 12:29

Yes, I agree, go for it. We go most years in a big group. One of our group has leukaemia - he went this year and had a good time… just took it easy, didn’t cane it with late nights etc.

I’ve had a shit time in the last couple of years (bereavements etc) - one thing it has taught me is that you never know what’s around the corner, so take your chances to enjoy life and have fun while you can🙂. Best of luck to you 🤞

Bloody hell they are saying Guns n Roses are replacing Taylor Swift.

Why have you assumed the worst case scenario when you don't actually have a cancer diagnosis yet?

I sincerely wish you well and I hope the biopsy shows no evidence of cancer, but I can't help feeling this thread is a kick in the teeth to those of us who are living with cancer, and couldn't care less about Guns n Roses or Taylor bloody Swift - who was never on the bill anyway, she already has tour dates booked.

Lcb123 · 02/11/2022 21:53

Definitely- you only have to pay £50 deposit and balance usually due in April. If you don’t pay the balance you get £40 back. So always worth trying for tickets! And wishing you the best x

Tomikka · 02/11/2022 22:27

Exactly what everyone else has said - book for it now, and deal with it if it becomes an issue later.

On one occasion when I was at Glastonbury, in the disabled camping there was someone with a hospital bed …… obviously not directly out of a ward but that was what they required for their disability needs, so their carer brought a bed amongst other things ….. and it also meant that it needed to be there and setup in advance, which meant that their tent (more marquee to be honest) was the first one directly alongside the entrance and the ‘assisted’ registration tent

NippyWoowoo · 02/11/2022 23:14

Sorry, why are more people not concerned about the cancer diagnosis by touching a lump over clothes bit?

EachandEveryone · 03/11/2022 00:18

I can only think that it was the ultrasound on the screen infront of him plus his years of experience. Bloods show and increase in enzymes. Biopsy is on Friday, Im dreading it but glad I will know one way or the other. I work in the hospital so maybe thats why he was so blunt. Who knows Im still in shock and Im sorry If people think Im not somehow behaving appropriately.

radiologists don’t tend to give a cancer diagnoses while doing a scan, oncologists don’t tend to briefly feel a lump and say ‘yep you have cancer’…

EachandEveryone · 03/11/2022 00:42

Hopefully they are all wrong. Friday will tell and I will keep my mouth shut during the whole proceedure.

OP posts:
wibblewobbleboard · 03/11/2022 05:48

It's not that people think you're not behaving inappropriately it's that they think the other medical professionals are.

I've never heard of anyone being diagnosed in the way you were. I would be worried that the professionals in your care need an intervention and that there needs to be a review of all the patients they've seen to ensure that they are following best practice models and diagnosing correctly.

Shitfather · 03/11/2022 07:22

Very odd that bloods were fine if you have cancer….

EachandEveryone · 03/11/2022 08:12

Not really. Ive one enough googling over the past few days to know that they can be pefectly fine. The second lot did show a raise in an enzyme which may or may not be anything depends on the biopsy.

I know its outrageous but Ive never been on this side before. It has crossed my mind would I want to be treated here on the other hand things have moved very fast so in that respect I cant fault the service.

i remember my dad when he was in with stage four a consultant telling him about a fantastic research program that was happening in Birmingham and in the same breath saying but you dont qualify. Why bloody even mention it? We laughed when she left the room because what else is there?

That's not the same thing though.

wibblewobbleboard · 03/11/2022 08:38

This is what worrying. He touched the lump through trousers. You say:

He touched the lump for ten seconds and said well, you have cancer😮

That's not like any consultation I've ever had or seen (parents with cancer and I had skin cancer).

EachandEveryone · 03/11/2022 08:44

They were thin harem pants and the lump is big you dont have to dig for it. Its big and solid and doesnt move. I dont know I cant speak for him. I will leave this thread now and come back to update when I have the biopsy results. And my tickets which have been a welcome diversion. Thanks to everyone.

OP posts:
wibblewobbleboard · 03/11/2022 08:46

It kind of doesn't matter how thick the trousers were.

That's not any kind of way for him to diagnose you. You should raise that as an issue so that he can be flagged and it followed up.

Yes I dreamt it all up 🤔 honestly he was elderly and peppered his speech with dears and not to worries. And im saying nowt else before I get accused of stereotyping. He was probably being paternal with his dears. I know what he said and because Im chatty and familiar with the place I probably encouraged it. Im waiting for the biopsy and that will put an end to it. I thought it was bizarre at the time but Im not complaining. I dont like the way Im being made to feel like Im making it up.

Do it.
Do it so you can get there and celebrate like a bastard at being cured and free of it!
