Do you answer withheld calls

I hate having withheld calls, I sometimes miss them and then spend all day wondering who has tried to call me.
does anyone ever answer them?

I answer them if I'm expecting an important call. I don't answer them otherwise.

canyon2000 · 01/11/2022 18:06

Yes I answer all phone calls.

ProtectorExtraordinaryOfTheCantonsOfNim · 01/11/2022 18:06

And I used to have to answer them because DH's old office had no mobile reception and all calls from his office came through as a withheld number. But that's not an issue any more.

BamBamBilla · 01/11/2022 18:09

Rarely. Unless I'm expecting a call. If its important they'll leave a message.

purpleme12 · 01/11/2022 18:09

Yes because unfortunately they make me nervous. It's either social services (or whoever you call first point of contact) because someone has made numerous malicious allegations of abuse/neglect of me to my child.
Or it's the police about the harassment case!

Orangesare · 01/11/2022 18:11

Yes I answer them, it’s usually the doctors surgery or the hospital

meatballsoup · 01/11/2022 18:12

I do because if i don't I will be wondering all day who it was.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 01/11/2022 18:12

If I’m expecting a call yes, otherwise I leave it for voicemail, if no voicemail is left, I don’t return the call. So far nothing important has been missed.

nocoolnamesleft · 01/11/2022 18:12

Always answer withheld calls, because it's usually the hospital.

notmyrealmoniker · 01/11/2022 18:13

Yea, it's easy enough to hang up. I get calls from hospital etc withheld numbers so why would you ignore them?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 01/11/2022 18:14

Yes always answer them. Hospital numbers are often withheld and they generally won't leave a message if they're calling to tell you something like someone is ill or injured.

Shitfather · 01/11/2022 18:15

Only when expecting one from lawyer, school, doctors.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 01/11/2022 18:16

Yes, but I put on my Hyacinth Bouquet voice as it’s usually some Unsolicited sales call and I like to make it clear from the start that Madame won’t be trifled with.

bloodywitchescat · 01/11/2022 18:16

Yes because my little one has lots of medical appointments and hospital/GP numbers are often withheld and they won't leave a message.

lovelilies · 01/11/2022 18:17

Always do, I'm too inquisitive!
Usually it's the hospital or doctor, or my ex calling about our DD (he's weird and won't give me his phone number 🙄)
If it's someone I don't want to talk to I can always hang up!
IME spam calls are always from random mobile numbers

gogohmm · 01/11/2022 18:17

Yes because it could be dp on his work landline, my gp, dd on her work landline ...

hugefanofcheese · 01/11/2022 18:17

Yep. My work and most NHS numbers come up as withheld so it could be important. It's easy enough to end the call if it's some crappy sales thing.

barelyfunctional · 01/11/2022 18:18

I rarely get calls from withheld numbers so when I do I answer them because it’s usually gp, hospital, etc. Spam calls don’t tend to come from withheld numbers in my experience.

Jellybean23 · 01/11/2022 18:21

We leave withheld calls to go to message. Most times, they hang up. Saves us a lot of wasted time

2tired2bewitty · 01/11/2022 18:43

Shitfather · 01/11/2022 18:15

Only when expecting one from lawyer, school, doctors.

But how would you know school are going to call if it’s an emergency?

Pinkflipflop85 · 01/11/2022 18:51

Yes, I always answer withheld numbers.

Both children are regularly in and out of hospital appointments. The contact is always from a withheld number and they aren't allowed to leave voicemails.

RampantIvy · 01/11/2022 18:52

Yes, because I don't have phone anxiety, and I am nosy.
DH always answers the phone because he is underging investigations for cancer and the NHS always has a withheld number.

I once had a series of phone calls one new year's day and thought they were spamming me. It turned out to be the fraud department of our bank checking whether I had just spent £2,000 in Dubai.

I think people have got out of the habit of talking on the phone because they just use other forms of messaging.

Roselilly36 · 01/11/2022 19:00

Always, usually the hospital calling for me.

Sparklingbrook · 01/11/2022 19:30

Yes, always. It's possibly the hospital or the doctors/vets or something else important. They won't leave answering machine messages, and it's impossible to get hold of them.
I'm more likely to not answer calls with a number that I don't recognise coming up.

purser25 · 01/11/2022 19:33

Always in case it is the hospital or social services or health visitor for my mother
