I hate having withheld calls, I sometimes miss them and then spend all day wondering who has tried to call me.
does anyone ever answer them?

Because of ds I have to, too many calls from his medical team come from unknown numbers and they are often not scheduled as just a catch up or new idea

reigatecastle · 03/11/2022 08:52

I wouldn't generally, but obviously would if I had made a telephone appointment with the GP or was undergoing hospital investigations so it was possible they were calling me.

Dentist sends email and text reminders, and I don't think they withhold their number anyway.

Not sure why medical facilities can't leave voicemails, all they need to do is record your consent and in any event it's probably legitimate interest to do so, they need to inform you about something and if it's a private facility it's so they can fulfil their contractual obligations towards you - anyway lots of options for them to leave messages lawfully.

(DS school didn't withhold their number so I knew it was them)

Probably a mumsnetter @RichardMarxisinnocent.

I would hope that the non answerers on here would learn from this thread, and start answering withheld number calls.

I don't need to! Nobody calls me from a withheld number.

MissMarpleRocks · 03/11/2022 08:58

It’s usually the hospital or GP or my parents carer so yes I always answer. It’s so rare that it would be a scam anyway as I think they usually have a phone number.

Sirzy · 03/11/2022 08:59

For a lot of things though leaving a voicemail doesn’t help. You just end up in voicemail tennis not missed call tennis.

i hate answering unknown numbers but because so many medical things are unknown numbers I have to or I wokld never get to talk to people I need to

Cania · 03/11/2022 09:05

Nope unless I'm in the mood. If it's important they'll usually leave a message

Salamander91 · 03/11/2022 09:16

Yes. Most scam calls I get seem to have numbers and the withheld ones are usually from the hospital.

Not always. My GP does but my parents GP doesnt.

I think it is really irresponsible and rude not to answer an expected booked hospital or GP telephone appointment ( with letter telling you the expected time of the call) just because it’s from a with held number! Drives me mad and wastes so much time!

Mostly nobody calls me from a withheld number. On one rare occasion someone did, it turned out to be a hospital trying to tell me a loved one had been in an accident and was in A&E. I missed the call as had been out and got home just as the landline stopped ringing. 1471 told me the caller withheld their number and I only found out it was the hospital when my loved contacted me later and told me the hospital had called me but got no answer.

Delatron · 04/11/2022 08:53

I don’t think anyone has said they’d ignore a pre-arranged phone call appointment at a specific time.

It’s the random withheld calls that you are not expecting. Especially if you are not in contact with hospitals/GPs.

I would still answer them becaue:

I am nosy
DD lives 2 hours away and it could be the emergency services trying to contact me
I am not afraid of answering the telephone (or the front door Grin)
