I’ve given up trying to sleep

…and gone downstairs for a cup of peppermint tea.

There is one hell of a storm going on out there. The wind is whistling and buffeting the house. I can hear tiles smashing and garden chairs blowing around. The electricity keeps going off and on again.

I tried listening to a sleep story on the Calm app but couldn’t hear it over the noise of the storm. I’ve thrown in the towel now and put on the kettle and sought out the cat. I thought it might be quieter downstairs, and I might be able to snooze on the sofa, but the fireplace is funnelling the wind and the cat is ignoring me.

Anyone else awake? Talk to me.

Oh @Blanketpolicy you poor thing. That sounds awful.

Insanely windy here on London / Kent border too. We had a yellow warning for rain, but nothing for being very windy so it’s more disturbing than if forecast for some weird reason! My whole house moved just now!

Ipadannie · 01/11/2022 03:04

@blanketpolicy do you have a dry socket? It's awful pain after an extraction:-(

I’m awake too, the wind is so loud, gave up trying to get back to sleep, got up had a cuppa, DH is fast asleep!

Intelligenthair · 01/11/2022 03:11

Another one repeatedly woken up here too, it’s so noisy and I’m so tired 😫 Full day of bigmeetings tomorrow too!

VenusClapTrap · 01/11/2022 03:11

I think it might be dying down a bit here now.

I might creep back up to bed and have another stab at sleep.

Thank you for keeping me company!

Read about that on google, might be. But doesn't seem to be much I can do about it 😥

Counting the minutes till the dentist opens 5hrs 43 mins to go!

arewe · 01/11/2022 03:18

The storm is still raging in SE London and I can't sleep either. Little window in my bedroom is broken, too and is not shutting properly. Bins outside rattling like crazy and my alarm click will go off at 6:40. I need to fall asleep asap.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/11/2022 03:18

And name changing fail - too tired 🤦🏻‍♀️

Nymeria6 · 01/11/2022 03:24

I'm up. My cats hogging the bed.

hownowpurplecow · 01/11/2022 03:37

I’m up, two day old baby, snoring husband & toddler in my bed = absolutely impossible to sleep. Just as I nodded off the bloody dog started whining to go out, baby started crying and toddler woke up asking why everyone was awake. This too shall pass. DH may not survive the night if he carries on snoring though.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/11/2022 03:42

Dawn chorus has started here. I am too old for an all nighter!

4hrs 18 mins till work starts (thankfully WFH)

5hrs 18 mins till dentist opens

2 days old! Congratulations 💐

Send your dh off into toddlers room with toddler and tell him to let the dog out on the way!

The storm woke me and now anxiety and tension are keeping me awake.

I'm having building work done, and the builders left numerous planks of wood and a workbench in the garden. I'm worried about them being lifted by the wind and throw against a window pane or - worse - the conservatory glass walls.

UncomfortableSilence · 01/11/2022 03:48

Awake here too on and off from 1am. In London too and no warning that I saw of this wind. We all sleep with the upstairs windows slightly open so have crept in DDs rooms to close windows as their bedroom doors were slamming, of course this has woken no one but me 🙄

Alarm goes off at 5.45, have been really poorly with Covid all last week so missed all of half term, first day back at work today, I generally sleep like crap but could have really done with a decent night.

Bluepanda86 · 01/11/2022 03:51

I can hear the storm too. It hasn't disturbed DD1 but I am struggling to feed my DD2 who is 2 weeks old. I am not coping well with a bad back and trying keeping upright.

Vallmo47 · 01/11/2022 03:54

Weather is awful in southwest also. And I’m such a light sleeper, frustrating. Hope everyone else nodded off.

twilightcafe · 01/11/2022 04:10

Wind and snoring DH are the least of my woes. Dh informed me that not only is arsehole BIL coming for Xmas, so are his relatives

BCBird · 01/11/2022 04:21

I feel your pain. I am through the menopause accordu g to the doctor but my sleep.is still shit. Was hopin.fir a decent night as I deliberately came to.bed late. At least I don't officially work on Tues, although i will have to work at hime. Hopefully we all get a better night's sleep tonight.

SeekingBalance · 01/11/2022 04:37

Gave up after laying in bed for 2 hours, it's recycling day today and there's a michevious tin can rolling around! I've put the kettle on....how ill survive work I do not know. The urge to call in sick, do the school run and get back into bed is unbelievable.

saltnvinegarpringles · 01/11/2022 02:40

I keep thinking the wind is dying down and then there's a fresh gust. Awful.

familyissues12345 will he not text you? I'm Latina and woe betide any child who didn't let their parents know they were safe however old they are. I still have to do it and I'm 33 😅

He's normally pretty good, and wouldn't usually put himself in the position of no sleep when needing to be up earlier. However he didn't reply to my "where are you?" Message at 2am, so my mind then went into overdrive 🙄.

He rolled in just before 5. Fortunately my body gave up overthinking at about 3am so I've at least had a few hours sleep.

He's nearly 19, I don't expect him to tell me everything he's upto, but a quick "I'm here and won't be back until such a time" would have been very appreciated to just slightly put my mind at ease!

VenusClapTrap · 01/11/2022 09:22

In the end I fell asleep pretty much as soon as I went back to bed. I think in future when Im lying awake like that I’ll come down and have a cuppa again - it was less stressful than trying and failing to sleep for hours!

I hope @Blanketpolicy gets some relief at the dentist today, and that everyone else managed to get some sleep in the end. Congrats to @hownowpurplecow!

Early nights all round tonight. ☕️

Still blowing a hoolie and manic rain here in West Sussex. Most of the night was spent reading. Trees and fences down everywhere.

familyissues12345 · 01/11/2022 21:24

Hoping we all get some sleep tonight!
