Pop stars have 'riders'. .

"She also demandied food and other drinks, the book says. Sandwiches had to be freshly prepared as Truss would reject any plastic-packed premade varieties.
For lunch she insisted on bagels or sushi, Cole and Heale write, but there was to be “absolutely no mayonnaise on anything, ever”, and a former staffer told them she would not accept fruit for breakfast. For overnight stays, a bottle of sauvignon blanc had to be provided in the fridge, the book claims"

Personally - a nice Merlot, flat white coffee machine and Jaffa cakes. That would be enough. But what would you need?

Seemed pretty reasonable to me. If you travel a lot for work it must be hell to keep having to eat and drink stuff you dislike. Presumably the civil service or your team usually ask for some guidance? Imagine it being your job to buy food for a major government figure and to have absolutely no idea what they like or don't like.

I like Diet Coke from a can, never a bottle and never Pepsi or Coke Zero; I like skimmed milk in a strong coffee, full fat milk makes me feel sick.

I think it is incredible that Liz Truss ever got to be a senior politician and she's caused a security breach that makes the Profumo Affair look like a game of hopscotch, which Johnson covered up. Suella Braverman has also broken the ministerial code and created a disease outbreak in a camp out of sheer cruelty. That's what matters. Liz Truss having a preference in her coffee is of minimal interest to me.

VioletCharlotte · 30/10/2022 18:08

A Nespresso machine in my hotel room for my morning coffee
Oat milk
Warm pastries
A supply of Twirls and Yorkie bars
Filtered water

HelenWick · 30/10/2022 18:13

When you spend that much time away from home those nasty pre packed sandwiches etc really stack up and make you feel shitty. It's a perfectly normal list of reasonable things to request. I wonder what Boris demanded?

Magn · 30/10/2022 18:16

I've never related to Liz Truss so much, including the scarfing down multiple croissants for breakfast. I'd be expecting proper food and coffee if I was traveling loads too!

I'd add proper butter in the sandwiches and nice chocolate to the list although can take the wine off. Maybe a pretentious smoothie for the nutritional value?

BobbyBobbyBobby · 30/10/2022 18:16

Hot chocolate
Any no sugar soft fizzy drink
chocolate truffles no alcohol
fresh bread
cheese
marmite
jelly beans
kittens

PerpetualStudent · 30/10/2022 18:18

Good gin and tonic
sushi

Floydthedemonbarber · 30/10/2022 18:21

I agree on the premade sandwiches. All that travelling and the hotel stays, a plastic sandwich would just be utterly miserable.

I'd go with fresh made sandwiches like a ham and cheese baguette, smoked salmon and cream cheese on brown.

Any coffee will do except a latte or cappuccino. Preferably oat milk. A good supply of dark chocolate digestives.

A chilled bottle of Pouilly-Fume. Or a four pack of beer.

BeastOfBODMAS · 30/10/2022 18:23

Black filter coffee
cheeze and marmite toastie
chilled mineral water
fruit
A nice single malt for a nightcap but I’d bring my own and not have the brass neck to expense it. Are we buying her wine?

RhubarbFairy · 30/10/2022 18:27

PG Tips
Lemon green tea
Absolutely no mushrooms, falafel or chickpeas.
Dark chocolate digestives
Strawberries
A pain au raisin.

CountryMouse22 · 30/10/2022 18:29

To stay at home in comfort and not have to go in the first place!

Me too. We could have a support group, except none of us would want to leave home to go to it!

If I have to go out - really good, strong coffee, home made shortbread, and plenty of chilled, sparking water.

Fieldfly · 30/10/2022 18:37

I’m no fan of truss but asking for a decent sarnie when you are doing a highly pressured job with long hours seems reasonable.

girlmom21 · 30/10/2022 18:37

No mayonnaise? Psychopath.

Shhhhh223 · 30/10/2022 18:45

Twinnings strong tea bags
douwe Egbert’s coffee
runny honey for the coffee
oatley barista milk
smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels
walkers salt and vinegar crisps
custard tarts

KittyWithStripes · 30/10/2022 18:51

Not a fan of hers but this list is entirely reasonable. Anyone who thinks this makes a senior leader in the fifth largest economy of the world look ‘entitled’ is a fuckwit.

KittyWithStripes · 30/10/2022 18:52

But then, I like sauv blanc so who
am I to say what’s right 😁

Demands my foot. I can just imagine the phone conversation...

"Good morning, they've asked me to make a list for your trip next week. For lunch, what sort of sandwiches do you like? Oh.. let me make a note of that... not all that fussed by pre-made sandwiches, you would prefer something like a bagel... but you don't much like mayo...anything else you like... sushi perhaps? Dinner there's a wide choice? Okay. Now, they also want to know your favourite wine, great, got that, and will you want some fresh fruit as well as cornflakes & a fry-up for breakfast? Don't bother with the fruit, okay, got that. Lovely thanks, I'll let them know. Byeee".

Is it this book?

ShamedBySiri · 30/10/2022 18:55

This book even!

BigWillyStyleandPrincessKate · 30/10/2022 18:55

How is this different to ordering at a restaurant? I've got a lot of issues with Truss but this is just having a preference on a sandwich. That's normal isn't it?

She hasn't asked for cigars rolled on the thighs of virgins and for someone to sort all the blue M&Ms out of the bowl.

lannistunut · 30/10/2022 18:56

I would prefer to take my own stuff, I like homemade bread too much. Would I be allowed to take my own packed lunch? If not I'll just have some crisps and orange juice.

Yeah the language is ott - demands and insisting etc

It’s entirely reasonable to have stuff you like

Parmesam · 30/10/2022 18:59

Tea, and hobnobs. Something healthy for lunch. A can of Coke Zero. A freshly poured pint of Brixton lager. Maybe a big Snickers in emergencies.

THIS

it’s so obviously just her preferences.

Saying she ‘demanded’ and ‘insisted’ is such bullshit.

Colderthanawitchestit · 30/10/2022 17:03

What a twat. I’d love to see some of the others though.

I worked somewhere where we would need to prepare stays to the requests in the Rider. It's all included in the price they pay/billed so it's not inherently "entitled" and I read somewhere that people will sometimes put a really random request half way through just to check it's been read.

Celebrities, sports teams etc all pay a lot of money to book out venues/hotels. Makes sense they will want stiff prearranged to make their stay easier.

It's like requesting a travel cot and the mini bar locking (normal) but ramped up 1000 because they are paying 1000 more.
