I spent most of the 90s…

With blobs of nail varnish on my tights, as legend had it it would stop ladders running.

Blue, red, purple, it didn’t matter. Mostly applied while on my legs so the said tights would get a bit stuck to my skin.

Did anyone else live by any 90s life hacks, probably learnt from Sugar magazine?

Raving interspersed with some education.

Early 90's I spent a lot of time worrying about having split ends, reading Judy Blume books, taping songs off the radio, buying bath bead things in the body shop.

Later on in the 90's I was obsessed with clubbing. Quite often out Thursday, Friday and Saturday every week on only a few quid. Used to go to big raves too which were a major expense and involved cadging lifts off our friends older brothers.

Wearing DMs, short skirts and vest tops, mainly drinking heavily oaked chardonnay, snakebite and black and listening to Alannis or Pulp.

If you could see from one side of your room to the other, you weren't wearing enough hairspray and Impulse.

Always carrying a condom in your purse, just in case.

I discovered nights out. Mostly in alternative/rock clubs. Not long after starting uni I met DS1's rock star look alike father, to the horror of my family who wanted me to either concentrate on my studies or at least go out with someone "respectable". They were actually right that he was a loser, but he was a gorgeous loser and teen hormones are more driven by how hot someone is than their long term chances of getting a mortgage in the suburbs 😫

My mother reading that if you rubbed lemon juice in your hair-it would go blonde in the sun
nah-all it did was make every wasp in the area follow you about, then your hair went orange and snapped off (not a good look)

dewberry perfume-I was allergic to it so had to wear tea rose instead

Doc Martin boots, over the knee socks and short skirts with my ‘jay from the inbetweeners‘ haircut

Crop tops, over plucked eyebrows and heather shimmer lipstick teamed with black nail polish

i must have looked a right state!

What is FT?

GoodVibesHere · 30/10/2022 16:49

Binge drinking at weekends, probably to the point of alcohol poisoning

Believing that 'men are from mars, women are from venus' and thinking it was fine that men had all these magazines like FHM where women were objectified

Toothpaste on spots, anyone?

I did that the night before my history gcse . I say that exam with no flesh on my chin and it was weeping and excruciating where it burnt my skin off I had to go to minor injuries after and I failed the exam as couldn’t think due to the pain 😭

SirMoose · 30/10/2022 16:54

I was born in the 90’s but I remember sugar! I think it went on well into the 2000’s!

Colderthanawitchestit · 30/10/2022 16:56

Toothpaste on love bites was supposed to reduce the bruising 😵‍💫 are they still a thing?

JuneOsborne · 30/10/2022 16:57

I learned to roll a decent joint. It was a take of two halves for me. Early 90s being a swot, late 90s having a blast. I met my husband in 1999. We're still married!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/10/2022 16:59

Yep me too. I loved Sugar. Until
My mum banned it!

Afterfire · 30/10/2022 16:59

Working in a pub whilst going to college (well half of the 90s anyway) and basically completely pissed most of the time. How my liver survived I will never know. Dd is now the same age I was then and she’s so healthy in comparison…. She’s at university and sends me screenshots of the dinners she makes, all sorts of healthy eating faff and barely drinks. It’s all about clean living and whatever. And there was me, knocking back red bulls and vodka like my life depended on it and throwing up till the early hours most nights. 🙈

Toddlerteaplease · 30/10/2022 17:00

But the mail polish trick on tights did actually work!

1FootInTheRave · 30/10/2022 17:09

Reading just17 and drinking cheap cider and 20/20 😳

ApolloandDaphne · 30/10/2022 17:13

I'm feeling very old. I spent the 90's having babies (90, 92 & 97). I was up to my eyes in nappies and nursery rhymes!

BreatheInFor4 · 30/10/2022 17:13

Off my face on ecstasy for the first half of the 90s.

Also nail varnished laddered tights and gave myself highlights by squeezing lemon juice in my hair.

Swissnotswiss · 30/10/2022 17:15

I hated the taste of alcohol (love it now though) so the only thing I could face drinking was White Lightning. 😖

LoliLouToo · 30/10/2022 17:20

I still carry a clear nail varnish in my bag for work tight tears.

lurchermummy · 30/10/2022 17:20

I spent most of the 90s working or getting drunk. I also got married at some point.

Was living the best years of my teenage life mid 90s yet I never read sugar! Then again I had an older sister so I used to read More, which had position of the fortnight as opposed to stocking fixing tips, much more interesting. Arr, if only I could go back to them times.

Position of the fortnight when I think most of us were only just discovering snogging!

maddiemookins16mum · 30/10/2022 17:22

…..I was having a ball repping all over the Med. Sunshine, sea, sex, great friends, no bills (saved a fortune) and having the time of my life. Every night was a Friday/Sat night. We worked hard and played harder.

NimrodNimroy · 30/10/2022 17:39

I spent most of the 90s trying to convince friends that I would be the perfect baby spice but they always made me be ginger, due to my hair.

Underthehills · 30/10/2022 17:40

With my pony.
