Call it Maximilian and spell it Maksymilian?

I know (but don’t understand) that people want something youneek, but this is one of the worst that I’ve come across(in real life).
is it shortened to Maks?

It is the correct Polish spelling.

RagzRebooted · 29/10/2022 20:54

I always wonder why the parents don't think about how much trouble this will cause for their child in the future. From learning to spell their name to having a lifetime of people misspelling it.

AnOldCynic · 29/10/2022 20:54

Every day is a school day...

Etinoxaurus · 29/10/2022 20:54

Are you 100% certain that’s not a correct spelling in an another language?
assuming not, that’s dreadful!

Maybe the parents are polish?

Etinoxaurus · 29/10/2022 20:56

Ah yes! Polish.
Always assume good intent! 🥰

BendingSpoons · 29/10/2022 20:56

Not all countries spell names the same...

Dollydea · 29/10/2022 20:56

It's polish.

stupidannoyingtaxthing · 29/10/2022 20:56

It’s perfectly fine, it’s just Polish.

Castaspell · 29/10/2022 20:57

There is a Polish family in our town who have a child named/spelled Maks

Ship · 29/10/2022 20:57

yes, it is the Polish spelling. I know of a few Maks’

It is the correct Polish spelling.

Well that's fair enough. Although if the child is growing up in a country that isn't Poland, they will still have a lifetime of people getting their name wrong. But I can understand the parents wanting the child's name to reflect their heritage. I'd probably opt for a shorter, easier one for the child's sake though! I have a Welsh name that was fine growing up in Wales, but constantly being called the wrong name here and having to spell it out. I do love my name though.

I gave DD a boring English name and she hates it!

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 29/10/2022 20:59

It's not a yoonique spelling - it's the standard spelling in many Eastern European countries and the most commonly transliterated spelling from Russian. In the same way that Alexander in the Cyrillic alphabet is (transliterated) "Aleksandr".

DorritLittle · 29/10/2022 20:59

My first thought was Polish. In general I agree about quirky spellings though.

Trainfromredhill · 29/10/2022 21:04

Thank you for educating me. No offence to anyone intended. I see a lot of strange names and had to double take this one. As PP said, every day is a school day and today I have been educated.

I know a family who’s son is called Lucky.

Regardless of whether it’s a suitable name or not, it would worry me if the child wasn’t actually lucky in life.

What if he’s sitting there one day, age 35 and reflecting on his failed marriages, losing his job, going bald and tripping over his black cat and breaking both his legs.

Will he change his name to Unlucky?

Rosenotred · 29/10/2022 21:13

I was going to guess polish also. OP will think twice before posting this in future. You hear all types of names not worth posting!

Namechangepleas · 29/10/2022 21:23

It's Saturday night do you not have anything better to do?
Pointless post

SirMoose · 29/10/2022 21:25

”waaaaah why isn’t it white British enough!!!””

It would take 2 seconds of Googling to see that it is Polish.

namechange3394 · 29/10/2022 21:45

Did you not think to Google it before you started this thread just to check you weren't being an ignorant racist?

Trainfromredhill · 29/10/2022 21:50

Obviously racist….married to a foreigner, with a non British passport myself. I could spend hours daily googling the names I come across. I didn’t. I stand corrected. I’m not sure being rude and abusive makes those posting such messages any better than the original post.

What's this has to do with the post?

And do you say similar to people with names like Felicity, Joy, Evangeline, Asher, Felix, Beatrix, etc.?!

GirlOfTudor · 29/10/2022 22:16

Wow! You might not be racist, but you are super ignorant and uneducated

My son's name has a KS instead of an X because it's a Russian name. I'm English and my husband is Russian so his name is a compromise of both languages. He can use his full name or shorten it as he pleases.

"this is one of the worst that I’ve come across". That's so offensive. I love my son's name and I truly hope he doesn't come across anyone as ignorant as you.
