What healthy things shall I put in my basket to stop me snacking on rubbish?

I WFH, have a sweet tooth and eat through boredom.

What nice and healthy things shall I put in my shopping basket to help me wean off all the snacky rubbish?

Also, any good ideas for breakfast please? I don’t have a great routine so tend to just graze.

thank you!

My go to snacks are rice cakes topped with kimchi (I like spicy food), satsumas or a mug of miso soup (surprisingly filling).

Longwhiskers · 28/10/2022 20:24

Cheese or babyels
oatcakes and peanut butter or houmus
those Nairn’s oatcake biscuits are good, not too much sugar in each one
crackers
Berries
i like Greek yoghurt with fruit and honey

Also I love those spicy hard rice cakes, you see them in tesco near the crackers bit. Love them dipped in houmus.

Food

dumbstruckdumptruck · 28/10/2022 20:27

Blueberries
Chicken or some other kind of protein, cooked in strips in a sticky sauce and then kept in a Tupperware in the fridge
Cottage cheese with pesto.

Breakfast-wise, eggs are protein-heavy and filling. I like a bowl of high-fibre cereal and a boiled egg at around 11am - keeps me full for ages.

Satsumas on a rice cake!!

Easier said than done but just don't snack. You say it's out of boredom. You're not hungry. You don't need snacks. Eat more protein at your meals.

Apple slices with peanut butter.
Rice cakes with hummus.
Sugar free jelly pots.
Fat free yogurt.
Individual malt loaves, the packed lunch size.
Low fat custard pots with fruit.

Stoned dates, lovely squishy ones.
Sugar snap peas.
Toasted pumpkin seeds.
Hummus and carrot sticks.

Breakfast - live Greek yoghurt with blueberries, raspberries, nuts and seeds

Perhaps not very healthy but I am a suckered for dried fruit , fet the decent ready yo eat stuff not the one for cakes .
Flame sultanas, cranberries, raisens, mango, pineapple, ginger , personaly I don't like apple or banana but uou may.

It can all be added to porridge or snacked on on its own.
I also make my own candied peal
Any citrus fruit ( grapefruit is my fav ) wash the whole fruit in water hot enough to get rid of any wax coating .
Peal it , cut of some of the pith from the skin cut the skin into small cubes
Bring about a pint if water to the boil
Desolve about 6/ 8 table spoons of sugar in the water
Boli rhe skin for about 10 mins drain and put in a very low oven for about 45 mins depending on if uou like it crunchy or chewy
Dyst in sugar
Leave it out untill dry and cool, stores for months in a air tight container .

Use the sugar syrup to add flavor to porridge , cake , ice cream .

It's not a heathly snack but two or three bits sucked take the edge off my ' I want a snack' feeling

Good lord please excuse all the typos !

Urban Fruit baked strawberries. Nicer than a lot of actual sweets, I have to ration myself.

motleymop · 28/10/2022 20:44

Good quality unsalted nuts and sultanas - to be eaten together. My particular faves are walnuts and almonds. The almond/sultana combination is like bakewell tart.

26twentysix · 28/10/2022 20:46

Dried sour cherries (they have them in Sainsburys in the baking aisle with other dried fruit) - crazy good
Sugar Snap Peas
Peppers cut into strips
Baby food - hear me out! I love those little yoghurt pot sized things of fruit puree. Absolutely delicious and no added sugar.
Cucumber slices
Watermelon chunks
Canned pineapple slices

Useyourfork · 28/10/2022 20:48

Raw carrots. Really big ones that take ages to eat! 😊

Meem321 · 28/10/2022 20:49

Apples and peanut butter

OoooSweetChildOMine · 28/10/2022 20:49

Seaweed crisps
Nuts
Greek yog & frozen berries
Popcorn
Dark chocolate

MrsPnut · 28/10/2022 20:50

Those little chicken satay sticks, about 22 calories each. You get about 20 in a pack.

tulipsunday · 28/10/2022 20:52

I like to use one of my toddler's bamboo plates with sections for snacks 😂 breadsticks and hummus in one, mix of nuts and seeds in one and a satsuma in the other. Now need to avoid the sweet treat in afternoon!
