Anyone ever dabbled before? What were your experiences? I've taken in the past, experienced ego death which was incredibly profound, always felt clear after the come up. Been reading a lot about it recently and find it fascinating how effective it can be for MH issues (been watching how to change your mind on Netflix). Anyone want to share? (I hope this is allowed, sorry if not!)

Absolute opposite. You have no idea the strength of what you’re taking and how you will react. I’m not being more specific other than than 2 close friends ended up WITH mh issues afterwards (1 short term, 1 not) and I know of 1 person who committed suicide. All commented on v disturbing experiences and these are people who were used to recreational drugs. My personal view is in many ways this is more dangerous than say cocaine (addition aside).

I'm not talking about people who just fuck around with drugs. I'm talking about peer reviewed research about psychedelics being used as a MH treatment, in controlled settings. The findings are quite astounding. You'd have to have some pretty serious underlying issues already or have taken a fuck load of LSD multiple times for a long time to end up with long term MH issues because of it. Very unusual to know of that many people who have had severe issues after taking it 🤔

I admit to not knowing what you’re describing regarding peer reviewed research.

Actually no, and in this case it’s you who is being naive, but good luck finding an exact dosage of LSD you think you’re acquiring.

I know of someone who ended up in hospital. They had tried lsd and ended up really unwell. While there they decided that trying to fly was a good idea. Promptly opened a window jumped and died.

That's unusual. In fact I thought I'd read that researchers struggled to find cases of this happening.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25744618/ study of over 130000 people.

Meh. There's no toxic dose. As long as you're prepared for what awaits and understand what the effects may be it's never been an issue for me. I'm not naive I'm just saying your experience is incredibly unusual as to know 3 people who ended up with severe issues after LSD use is very unusual. Do you know lots and lots of people who take LSD?

@Guessie oh I'm sure it's all scaremongering but no thank you!

Enough to put me off for life!! And then I watched that movie "shrooms" in my early twenties and that just made my mind up!

At the end of the day, nobody knows how they will react to hallucinogenic illegal drugs so I think the wise choice is just not to take them tbh!

Completely respectable stance to have, and you're right, as if you go into it petrified of having a bad trip you probably will do!

I was a teenager in the late 80’s and at Uni in the early 90’s when recreational drug taking was rife during the rave and house scene so yes I knew a lot of people who took many types of drugs.

Do you know anyone who has taken LSD or is this all book reading? It’s not a ‘toxic dose’ you need to be worried about. Anyway sounds like you are very well informed so will leave you to it.

Mammyloveswine · 27/10/2022 22:49

@Guessie I have read that and absolutely know that I would end up having a terrifying trip!

But no one knows what might be brought up from their past or films they have seen and I just find it honestly terrifying!

In saying that, I do like a glass of wine or several so maybe I'm hypocritical happily indulging in a legal drug? 🤷‍♀️

We are all different and I wouldn't dream of ever telling anyone that they should try anything. It's a personal choice. There are so many things I would never do (cocaine for example as it is so unethical and bad for you physically).

Funny thing is that alcohol is the only thing that ever makes me feel depressed! Even a couple of glasses makes me anxious and down the next day.

I took it once thirty years ago in my late teens. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I didn't know about 'bad trips' then though and there was a safe person looking after us.

I too saw how to change your mind on Netflix recently and it's got me wondering about magic mushroom microdosing. Anyone familiar with that?

I have a few friends who do it but I have also read it's been debunked (no idea if that's true or not). Also curious.

There was a woman on the series @Guessie who said it was really helping her in small does to be less anxious or irritated. I was wondering if it could be a good alternative for peri menopause symptoms!

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 23:01

@Guessie I also looked online at one of the clinics shown in the series but the fees were eye-wateringly high!

Yeah I remember, really interesting. The research I read was about it potentially being a placebo effect. Definitely needs more research. Scientists are talking about creating a drug that has all the same effects as lsd but without the hallucinations for treatment of mental health issues, but other scientists are arguing that the visuals are just as important for a few reasons (I agree based on my own experiences but can't talk for others). I do wonder if it does have some kind of placebo effect...

Intense and rushy initially, then levels out - lots of images flashing up at speed, celestial themes and connections with entities, )eg kuan yin). All beautiful and benevolent. Seeing the natural world breathe and dance, and that everything is sort of tessellated.

Thank you! So interesting.

I can't really remember now all the different substances they talked about other than lsd and psilocybin. It was really fascinating though. Especially how in the US they banned it because the kids didn't want to go to Vietnam (if I've understood that correctly!)

American govt started the war on drugs in the first place! Lots of scaremongering over certain drugs that weren't as dangerous as they claimed. V interesting.

I found their use for MH reasons interesting. The only problem for me is now I'm older I have far more fear! And it looks like unless you're part of an authorised study there's no way it will be offered as a service any year soon.

It will definitely happen in my lifetime (I'm mid 30s). I don't think it's too far off...

That is an incredibly rare experience for most LSD users, not many documented accounts of this happening as often as people say. Sounds like the scaremongering from the past. If used sensibly (preferably with someone sober to trip mind) it can be one of the safest recreational drugs.

Hmmm. I know someone this happened to too, although it was a case of several years of sustained over-use and a bad trip leading to terrified psychosis and the jump from the window. So that's two on this thread.

I had some great times on acid as a young'un, but also some dodgy ones with very bad come down. Didn't feel worth it after a while, and I knew a few people take it too far and never get all the way back, so stopped. Handle with care!

Everything in moderation! I couldn't take the heroic doses I've taken in the past every month for say, 5 years. It would of course mess with your head. Just like eating too much food can make you morbidly obese, smoking too much can give you lung cancer, etc. Hence why use in a therapeutic setting with trained practitioners for MH issues would be an incredible break through.

Me too. It was the thought of not enjoying it or being frightened and not being able to stop it that out me off.

That's what happened to me. I had my first panic attack after I'd taken LSD for the first time. I swear it was the start of my MH battles. It was a horrific experience.

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 23:56

@RosalindsAFuckingNightmare how old were you when that happened?
