Anyone ever dabbled before? What were your experiences? I've taken in the past, experienced ego death which was incredibly profound, always felt clear after the come up. Been reading a lot about it recently and find it fascinating how effective it can be for MH issues (been watching how to change your mind on Netflix). Anyone want to share? (I hope this is allowed, sorry if not!)

It's so unbelievably rare for someone to die on LSD. Far more people die from cigarettes, alcohol, cocaibe, heroin etc. There was a guy who was trafficking LSD in his stomach and the bag broke. It had something ridiculous like 7 grams of LSD in it. That equates to thousands and thousands of doses. He survived. There is no toxic dose. Could definitely be dangerous if taken when in a bad mood and stood by the side of a road but that's the same with anything (like drinking and driving). If taken with friends, and at least one person who is sober, very very safe. You might have a shite trip but that's about it. It is also far more likely to work wonders for your mental health than wreck it. It's non addictive, and I find that I am almost completely tolerant to it for days and days after, can't properly trip again for at least two weeks, so it's not like you can do it every day and get any sort of benefit from it. To the user who said wasn't it dangerous as I could have jumped in front of a car... Well no, I wasn't anywhere near a road! I was in a a field.

I took LSD a few times as a teenager - wrong setting though for me, in a club, I'd have been better off somewhere quiet.

In my 50s now and I take psychedelics fairly frequently (every few months) as they help my mental health and migraines. Not LSD though, as it just goes on too long.

Shlomping1234 · 27/10/2022 21:11

Ive taken lsd a gew times but I much preferred magic mushroom in my teens. We'd walk around the feild picking them then all eat them together and wait to come up. I'd always eat mine between crisps as they're disgusting. We had the most hilarious times for free. Laughing so hard and feeling do loved and free with the best of friends.
I've dabbled with a few things over the years but my magic mushroom days are my most memorable.
Oh to be a tripping teen again 😊

I actually enjoyed it much more as an adult! But yes these are definitely days to reminisce over. I've been to a few talks on psychedelics and some studies have found that over 80% of people felt more connected to nature after taking them. Another found that 50% took up gardening after 😂 can't remember which drug it was but it was a pretty solid study!

what is ego death? I’ve seen people say they’ve experienced it but no one seems able to put it into words

As a magic mushroom enthusiast, egodeath is where you lose control/sense of your physical body. You can't really move coherently. Your conscience goes over to another level completely. Its a bit like you met a higher power, you become so meaningless and trivial that you realise this in your own life and so it brings about a level of peace that you can't really comprehend. A lot of people find it very helpful in deep therapy to over comer trauma in earlier years.

It's very profound and can really and truly help in terms of trauma healing. I can't recommend it enough.

yerdaindicatesonbends · 27/10/2022 21:19

I accidentally took it once (took something else which was laced) and it was great. My friend and I had shared hallucinations (I feel like that word has such negative connotations) but we were seeing the same stuff in the sky. And just generally felt so at peace.

I’ve had ego death a couple of times on weed alone. Very intense, ultimately good experiences.

One drug which I’m interested in in terms of mental health is MDMA. I only ever took small amounts and it would just completely shift my perspective and the effects would last for months.

This was all almost a decade ago but mostly positive.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I have OCD, PTSD and severe anxiety. It used to help me immensely. I don't do it now as I have responsibilities as a lone parent and never have the full weekend that I'd need to process it all.

@Ccoffee what do you take for migraine? I'm getting desperate about mine.

Inextremis · 27/10/2022 21:22

I did acid a few times back in the late 70s/early 80s. It was a lot of fun - I remember being fascinated by the black and white tiles in the local burger joint, and also the pebbles on the beach as we rode on the beach railway (this was in Brighton, Volks railway if anyone's familiar). Also going on the pier and looking at the sea through the gaps in the boards :) The colours of everything were sort of fragmented into dots of purple, green, and red - curtains moved where they had folds - so hard to describe! Loved the feeling of coming up - like bubbling over with joy and laughter. Very glad to have had these experiences, but would never recommend drugs to anyone - there's always a risk of a bad time/reaction.

jewishmum · 27/10/2022 21:23

When I was a teenager, I was tricked into smoking a cigarette that resulted in my heartbeat fastening into a panic attack that I was going to die, and after that I found it very hard to communicate my brain to my body parts and could hardly move my limbs. Next, my consciousness was next to my body instead of inside it, and I was scared that someone would notice this was happening and I was trying hard to think of how "my name" would act to be normal. Next, I realised that nothing was real and felt very relieved, as all my worries meant nothing as nobody and nothing is really real. Then I was trying hard to stay conscious and despite it being very tempting to shut my eyes I fought it, it was like I was being dragged backwards on a rollercoaster.

Really recommend watching how to change your mind on Netflix. It's about real life drug therapy. Looks at mescaline, lsd, psilocybin (mushrooms) and MDMA. I'm in no way telling anyone on this thread to take drugs, of course, but to read about the advances in other countries re psychedelics being used legally in a therapeutic setting, with trained therapists is fascinating.

Absolutely not! I have always been far too scared after the stories of people peeling their own skin off thinking they're a banana!!

Honestly that really does sound like nonsense. There are so many stories like this and they're almost always not true. I'm sure a few of them are but it just doesn't happen if you take it with someone who is sober. They'd stop you from doing anything daft!

I know of someone who ended up in hospital. They had tried lsd and ended up really unwell. While there they decided that trying to fly was a good idea. Promptly opened a window jumped and died.

That sounds apocryphal -- it's a story that's been doing the rounds since the 1960s, at least.

And if you were dead, the only part of a hospital that might be of any use to you would be the morgue.

poorbuthappy · 27/10/2022 21:36

I took it in college a lot. It was always the end of the night having taken speed and Es. Safe space. Good friends. Lots of fags and tea.

JudyGemstone · 27/10/2022 21:49

I’ve had some profound experiences with psychedelics. Agree LSD can be a bit long, best taken in the morning on a sunny day in nature 🌿🌞

DMT is super short, over and done with in 20 mins and you could literally drive or do a work presentation afterwards.

mushrooms are great too, so squishy and warm and all about connection and joy 🥰

PLEASE share more about your experiences with DMT if you wouldn't mind? Never tried it but went to a presentation about it by a uni professor in Sweden and it was fascinating.

I have When I was a teen years ago, was absolutely hilarious as i traipsed everyone off to see the horses in our local park. I just wanted to be with nature. Laughed so much and had a great time. Magic mushrooms were so slightly different also tasted like bad cheese! Not sure I could do it now, as I now forage mushrooms so I know exactly where to find them .

Ccoffee · 27/10/2022 21:55

SuffolkBargeWoman · 27/10/2022 21:21

@Ccoffee what do you take for migraine? I'm getting desperate about mine.

I don't want to say exactly what, as it's heavy duty and I don't encourage it.

But I have heard that Hawaiian baby wood rose seeds work fairly well, just 1 seed, and they are legal. They contain something similar to LSD. Or 1g dried mushrooms, so not enough to trip.

JudyGemstone · 27/10/2022 22:02

Psilocybin mushrooms can be effective for cluster headaches and migraines.

Intense and rushy initially, then levels out - lots of images flashing up at speed, celestial themes and connections with entities, )eg kuan yin). All beautiful and benevolent. Seeing the natural world breathe and dance, and that everything is sort of tessellated.

TheBulletThatMissed · 27/10/2022 22:18

Absolute opposite. You have no idea the strength of what you’re taking and how you will react. I’m not being more specific other than than 2 close friends ended up WITH mh issues afterwards (1 short term, 1 not) and I know of 1 person who committed suicide. All commented on v disturbing experiences and these are people who were used to recreational drugs. My personal view is in many ways this is more dangerous than say cocaine (addition aside).

Twattergy · 27/10/2022 22:22

Did LSD in teens. Had a sense of understanding what infinity was. The phrase 'it is' seemed the answer to everything. I realised how both huge and tiny I was in the universe. Pushing through a crowd of people made me feel like id just been born. Music sounded amazing and visuals (was at all night gig) were insane. Had a brief 10 mins or so of paranoia but the rest of it was fun. I'd be up for trying mushrooms now as I think it'd be similar but shorter and less intense.
