I'll start. I'd do medicine and become a coroner

An accountant. Like i wanted to be originally. Thanks mum for your unwanted and unasked for interference.

I am baffled that any parent would try and stop their child becoming an accountant. Well paid work which doesn't necessarily bleed into your home life and suck your soul out. I'd have thought that's the ideal profession if you are capable of succeeding at it.

I am not very talented but got a skill that I can monetise. I am finally in the right job for me and wouldn't change.

Sparklythings1 · 26/10/2022 22:15

Anything but a teacher 😭

Pedallleur · 26/10/2022 22:17

Journalist or pr for a big luxury goods company e.g. Cartier or Vuitton.

I'd love to be a teen counsellor. I know there's no money in it. But it would be so rewarding to give teens support when they are being bullied or have body dysmorphia or any of those other things which make school life hell.

Other than that, I love the job I do. I sometimes wish I had a similar role with a big firm instead of working freelance, but I bet I'd hate it in reality. I love the freedom of setting my own hours and pace, choosing my own clients, giving myself a pay rise when I need one.

VoluptuaGoodshag · 26/10/2022 22:18

Something to do with earth sciences and the environment or a registrar.

been and done it. · 26/10/2022 22:18

I'd be an FBI agent or maybe a US Marshall.

LadyWithLapdog · 26/10/2022 22:20

Something where I didn’t have to speak or pay 1 to 1 attention all day long. Where you could hide a bit and not constantly perform. So maths or accountancy.

Oblomov22 · 26/10/2022 22:20

Michelin Restaurant Inspector.

floridaplanner · 26/10/2022 22:22

I have absolutely no idea. I’ve never known what I wanted to do so I’m finding this thread really interesting.

SmallestInTheClass · 26/10/2022 22:23

Like a couple of others I’d be an engineer. Didnt even know what one was when I was at school In the 1980s. I think I thought an engineer meant something like a mechanic when I was a teenager. I now know some amazing engineers and realise how interesting it can be.

allboysherebutme · 26/10/2022 22:23

Interior designer, science technician, or forensic scientist. X

Russell19 · 26/10/2022 22:24

A lawyer

StressedToTheMaxxx · 26/10/2022 22:24

Nursery worker!

Norugratsatall · 26/10/2022 22:26

Professional musician or...astrophysicist. 😊

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 26/10/2022 22:28

@MrsCarson Court reporter was honestly the worst (proper, post degree) job I ever had. Partly because if one goes to the effort of becoming a fully qualified lawyer it’s screamingly dull to simply record details without being engaged in a case. Partly because other lawyers in court don’t always understand that the court reporter has the same professional status as they do …

I think journalists also report from court? Don’t know how that works.

But I wouldn’t say you missed anything wonderful! (I only lasted about 6 months.)

DomingoinLittleOakley · 26/10/2022 22:31

Author/writer or paramedic/midwife.
What I wouldn't give to go back to the mid-eighties and start all over again.

BoneyEmm · 26/10/2022 22:32

One of those people on the repair shop. I'd love to have a creative skill and not deal with people too much.

saltrock123 · 26/10/2022 22:32

Artist/illustrator

Desiredeffect · 26/10/2022 22:35

To join the raf

WashAsDelicates · 26/10/2022 22:35

Speech and Language Therapist.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 26/10/2022 22:36

Like you OP, a coroner. In a world where shift patterns don’t matter, a paramedic. In real life for the satisfaction of the job but a healthier work life balance, an Occupational therapist. They are problem solvers to improve someone’s quality of life. That’s pretty appealing to me

cornishLassie · 26/10/2022 22:36

God depressing
Nothing outside of financial services pays enough to have a decent quality of low and 2-3 kids any more :(

MarthanotMarfa · 26/10/2022 22:36

Character actress in TV

Guessie · 26/10/2022 22:36

I'd go into research looking at psychedelics for medicinal purposes.
