Labour Party Scandals Under Blair/Brown

I was only a teenager in the early naughties and yet I remember so many Labour scandals so I often feel surprised that they never get mentioned here in the political threads.

The ones I remember are David Kelly, weapons of mass destruction/Iraq war generally, A-level results falsely marked down to prevent grade inflation (Estelle Morris took the fall for that), PFI, extensive hospital waiting lists, cash for honours, something to do with Peter Mandelson, Carole Caplin and some dodgy flats, Labour offspring getting into fee paying or selective schools, Two Jags Prescott and lots of sex scandals (Blunkett, Prescott, maybe more).

I suppose it’s always given me this sense that regardless of the colour of their rosettes all politicians are ultimately the same (self-serving hypocrites).

I was curious whether everyone else just had very short term memories or those scandals weren’t as big a deal at the time as some of the current ones.

There were scandals under the Blair/Brown governments, some under Thatcher, more under Major, and a few under the Cameron led coalition. However the number under Boris Johnson especially were a multiple of several times all of them put together.

Exactly!
Whilst we can hand wring with the Iraq war, which imho ultimately achieved the right outcome (i'm currently listening to the so brave women of Iran, battling to have their freedom back but which apart from Ch4 News, is ignored, zero solidarity from the women on MN)

Without Blair and Bush's war, we would have have had decades of another Iran.

B.J on the other hand is now, its real! he pretty much tried to over throw Parliament and perhaps become a dictator, only stopped by the Supreme Court.

What Blair did pales into insignificance.

I was born in 1960s.
I followed politics lots all my adult life & couldn't remember anything OP listed.
So yeah, now I remember, since OP had such a list.
A lot of so-called scandals I don't agree are important. This applies to some recent Tory events... and several things OP listed.
Impressed that OP has such a good way of searching with Google memory.

Well, I think it's debateable that the invasion of Iraq led to the "right outcome". It destabilized the middle east and indirectly led to the chaos that helped the birth of ISIS. And an estimated 200000 Iraqi civilians were killed, I expect their families don't feel positive about that. And if you're watching the Iranian women fighting for their rights, you need to take into account the fact that women had more freedom under Saddam Hussein, who was a dictator but not an Islamist, than they have had subsequently.

And no, I am not a fan of SH 🙄although of course I'll be accused of it. But saying it achieved the "right outcome" is simplistic and ignores the utter chaos and horror that it led to.
