So finished work at 8.00pm and despite being dark evening smells like summer. I’m in the SE but although not hot hot there is that summer breeze smell?

What’s this?? It’s 28 degrees here in the Canaries. I was told it’s cold and raining back home!! Am I to believe it’s warm in the UK right now? ConfusedGrin

I've been cold today in the east mids. Thermal leggings, 2 jumpers and thick socks while I was pottering about in my shed. It's been quite sunny though. But damp. Definitely felt like autumn to me. We've had lots of rain and fog the last few days.

Depends where. We seem to have had the dregs from Dublins torrential downpours these past few days but we are sat in tshirts. Not had any heating on so far, not even for bathroom showers.

Very very damp but warm. Not humid though. East Midlands.

Most nights this week it’s smelt of damp leaves and occasionally you can smell peoples wood fires.
Just struck me last night the air was like that on holiday.

To be fair we can’t compete with 28 degrees in the Canaries though . “Heatwave” is a relative term.

It’s not particularly warm here! Feels fairly standard for autumn. There’s always a warm period in the middle of October around St Luke’s day (18th Oct) - it was even called St Luke’s little summer. It should be cold again in time for bonfire night.

I can remember more than one very late October with summer-like weather. One in particular, a sunny 21 deg - and it was 31st October. This was at least 20 years ago.
The very next day - 1st November - the weather changed with a vengeance.

I don’t think it’s altogether a new thing. Many Victorians who could afford to, took their annual holidays in October - including at the seaside.

It's made our half term trip much easier. We've even managed a paddle in the North Sea.
