What things do you have too much of?

I’ve recently been on a bit of a decluttering mission and have discovered things that I have a huge excess of and I’m trying to work my way through now (and not buy any more!)
I was thinking surely other people have those things that they buy every time they hit a shop even though they have 15 versions at home?

So mine are -
Candles
Herbal tea (so so many!)
Face masks
Childrens craft sets & supplies
Those seasoning in a bag things (like the Maggi ones)
And DH’s is baking supplies!

This winter I foresee lots of chicken dinners lit by candlelight followed by home baked cakes, I am determined to use up these things (why do I buy them and never use them?! Why?!!)

What are yours?

Table cloths- totally random but can change the atmosphere of the room really nicely. Not expensive ones just H and M mainly.
Glass ware and table ware- I have no intention of getting rid of any of it though.
Books- not getting rid of those either.
Candles- but I light them every day and pick which scent I want.

80sMum · 24/10/2022 13:06

I've noticed I have rather too many of these.
Kitchen Rolls
Toilet Rolls
Coffee
Plastic containers
Dinner plates
Mugs
Wine glasses
Dishwasher salt
Clothes pegs

MarthaMayWhovier · 24/10/2022 13:07

Everything tbh.
Especially;

Kitchen equipment and gadgets
Toys (cars/vehicles, plastic animals, rubber ducks, flashing singing lumps of plastic tat etc)
Soft toys (found a hideous pug-unicorn hybrid the other day. Literally no idea where it came from.)
Socks
Mugs
Candles
Half empty bags of pasta
Towels
Pillow cases
Glass jars
Jars of herbs
Jigsaws
Bottles of suncream
Fridges and freezers.

There's 1000s of books as well but I don't mind them. I could definitely cull a couple of 100 from the shelves though.

VickerishAllsort · 24/10/2022 13:09

Books!
I will never throw them away so have to keep finding new homes for them. Charity shops are full of them so I've been leaving them, three or four at time, at the two local pubs with bookshelves.
And toys.
I don't have children at home, they are for the grandchildren who are at school now and don't visit often, but again, I can't stand throwing things away.

Furrybutts · 24/10/2022 13:10

Towels and bedding.
I love bedding, and because I buy really good quality sets they last for years. So when I buy new ones I find it hard to part with the old ones. Consequently I have ottamans and cupboards full.

MarpleFan · 24/10/2022 13:11

Books and shoes - according to my OH anyway - I think I have a perfectly reasonable number of both....

FourChimneys · 24/10/2022 13:13

Socks. I have about 50 pairs, ordinary socks, walking socks, bedsocks. I need to wear some out before buying any more.

Scissors. I don't know where they have all come from but there must be at least 20 pairs in various drawers and pots around the house.

DH has far too many pieces of wood which might be useful one day.

At the moment, too many leaves. I love having lots of trees, including a small piece of woodland, but we are constantly sweeping paths and lawns at the moment as we do every autumn.

40andfit · 24/10/2022 13:14

Guilt
Fat
Clothes which no longer fit
Toys
DH has too much of everything
To do lists

thenightsky · 24/10/2022 13:28

Bras that no longer fit due to excess fat.
ditto bikinis.

DisneyDisneyDisney · 24/10/2022 13:33

Am having a massive clear out and have found 7 monopoly sets so far. We don’t even really play monopoly.

PeloFondo · 24/10/2022 13:37

Candles
Eyeshadow palettes
Perfume
Shower gels

RoseOud · 24/10/2022 13:39

Gu glass containers from their little desserts.

They're so cute I can't throw them in the recycling. There was an article on twitter about what to do with them. Candle holders, tea bag holder, hamster food bowl, beans on a breakfast and so on.

Metabigot · 24/10/2022 13:40

Shoes, boots, coats.

Makeup and skincare

onwardandupwards · 24/10/2022 13:41

Soft cuddly toys, not helped that my sister just gave my ds a 5ft cuddly dinosaur that takes up most of his bed!

illiterato · 24/10/2022 13:46

Bed linen. Keep meaning to put aside a day to go through it and work out what fits which beds as I’m sure some of it doesn’t fit anything.

gym leggings- I have about 10 pairs but rotate the same 2 pairs.

black trousers. Barely if ever worn.

AdaColeman · 24/10/2022 13:51

Bills

Books, none of the charity shops around here seem to want them now.

Bottles of obscure liqueurs, bought to make exciting cocktails! I knew I had too many when the gas meter man asked me if I was an alcoholic.

Socks, I can never find a matching pair though! Once, made to take my boots off by airport security, only to reveal my odd socks, a chap asked me where I'd bought them, as he thought they were fun. Obviously his wife was better at matching socks than me!

user1483387154 · 24/10/2022 13:53

Books.
Mugs.
Jeans
Bags
Pyjamas

noproblemlove · 24/10/2022 14:16

Books! I have over 530 on my shelf. I've stopped buying them and give what I have read to charity but I always pass a book swap and end up coming away with a few more 🤦🏽‍♀️

KimberleyClark · 24/10/2022 14:29

butterfliedtwo · 24/10/2022 12:26

Other people would say that I have too many books. They are wrong, of course.

Same here.

Bananalanacake · 24/10/2022 15:19

Lego, Lego figures, Playmobil, Sylvanian families, My Little Ponies, Lol dolls, Beanie babies,, I'm a toy collector.

SingingSands · 24/10/2022 16:07

Coats.

My mum buys me a new coat every year (either Christmas or for my birthday in January sales - so sometimes that means 2 coats a year).

I've tried to tell her that I'm 43 now and I really do have enough coats.

cicatrix1 · 24/10/2022 16:48

jackets/coats,shoes,books and cables🙄
