How much do you pay for broadband ?

We currently pay close to £100pm for broad band/landline/BT Sport which I think is ridiculous.
No one calls the landline, I don’t watch football, the only good thing is the reliability of the internet.
How much cheaper could I get a good quality, reliable broadband ?

We pay £35 a month and that was a more expensive option we chose in order to get high speed internet

PeloFondo · 24/10/2022 08:21

About £35 with BT

Pinkflipflop85 · 24/10/2022 08:23

£22 a month without line rental. Its not particularly fast but it seems to cope OK with fortnite being played at the same time as Netflix, YouTube and general phone browsing

MintJulia · 24/10/2022 08:26

£24.82 for broadband and landline. I don't use the landline but it's there for emergencies because mobile signal here is non-existent downstairs and fairly unreliable upstairs.

BB speed is covers everything we need - one teen playing games plus me streaming TV.

hedgehoglurker · 24/10/2022 08:29

About £30 for landline and broadband with Vodafone or Sky. Personally, I've found BT too expensive whenever I've shopped for broadband.

Are you tied into a contract still?

Can you remove the Sport/TV element, as this is probably a large part of your bill?

What speeds are you getting for this?

Do you have other add-ons pushing up the bill?

Frogsanddogs · 24/10/2022 08:29

£18 no idea why people pay for the expensive stuff unless they need super fast for work or gaming type things.

pumpkinelvis · 24/10/2022 08:29

£32 for virgin broadband (fibre), landline and virgin tv package. They tried to increase it to £66 after the 18months was up but I called up to cancel and got it for £32

ServerSurfer · 24/10/2022 08:30

£34 for 200mb(?) from virgin with a tv package included

Atmywitsend29 · 24/10/2022 08:31

We pay £25 with EE, just straight broadband, we don't have a home phone.
We pay separately for Disney+.

ChimChimeny · 24/10/2022 08:32

£28 ish from BT for broadband & I think landline but we don't have a phone plugged in.

We've always paid about £30 because we want/need high speed but haven't paid for any TV with it for years

There are ways of watching football without buying the sky or BT packages. Amazon have some matches now as well if you have prime

Goldmember · 24/10/2022 08:32

Virgin media 350mb fibre for £39pm. We need a high speed here, I wfh, we all stream TV and DH is a gamer.

Cantthinkofanewnameatm · 24/10/2022 08:38

£25 ( broadband and landline) and I think that’s dear!! Don’t use the landline for outgoing calls but it’s there for anyone who wants to call me on it and emergencies as mobile coverage is poor and mobile routes through the WiFi fir calls in the house.

FivePotatoesHigh · 24/10/2022 08:38

£32 a month for broadband and TV from Virgin. Lowest TV package which has plenty. Technically includes a landline as they won’t do it without, but we don’t have a landline phone.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 24/10/2022 08:41

£26.99 pcm from BT. A landline is there but not used. It would be PAYG an expensive if it was. I rang them and they brought it down a fiver a month.

The reason we are paying this much is because DH has his name on the bill, and he’s too lazy to do anything about it.
I can’t see us being locked in as we’ve been on this scheme for many years.

I pay £20 with Now and that is plenty fast enough for movies, zoom meetings etc. I don't use the landline but it includes that. £100 is absolutely bonkers.

User17956743 · 24/10/2022 08:48

£42.99 for 500 Mbps BT halo 3 broadband and landline

GlitteryFarts · 24/10/2022 08:50

£22 a month now tv. 4 x kids constantly gaming online. Netflix streams fine at same time etc. £100 is ridiculous!

outdoorcushions20 · 24/10/2022 08:51

£25 for high speed broadband, landline and Sky Q.

Think it's the Sports package that's costing you so much, not so much the broadband. If you're out of contract or it's coming up for renewal, definitely start looking around.

My DH has his name on the bill so I just have it go to my email address and when I ring them up just tell them I am his wife and deal with it all and they seem quite happy with that. All of our utilities whether in DHs name or not go to my email.

@Frogsanddogs

who do you get that through & what speed is it?

Toddlerteaplease · 24/10/2022 08:56

£28 with EE.

@ChimChimeny what do you use for TV?

im with Virgin, but only because I like their Tivo box, I like the recording function & it's easy to use.

Yarrawonga · 24/10/2022 09:00

£20 for broadband. We have a landline phone included in that too.

It isn’t the fastest (around 40Mbps down) but it’s fast enough for a household of two. I have ridiculously fast internet at work but it doesn’t make things happen any quicker than at home.

@Cantthinkofanewnameatm

same question to you, what do you use for your Ztv. I use virgin because I like their Tivo recording box, but even on fibre don't find their broadband very good
