The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

Seven Sisters

Oh sorry, wrong thread Bear

Fromage · 22/10/2022 22:37

Has anybody played Tottenham Court Road?

If not, I'll envoke the Paternoster Flirt:

Feltham

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/10/2022 22:44

Delighted to see you once again, IreneTheQuaint! Those lockdown games were something else. I feel the game of games does lose something when played over zoom (although, given the Admiral’s propensities, a certain amount of social distancing is a blessing).

10:45pm of course brings the 75 minute rule into play.

Which means I'm forced into playing Caledonian Road.

AspiringAuthor101 · 22/10/2022 22:48

In the spirit of recent events, can I do a complete u-turn back to Mornington Crescent?

BounceBackBoris · 22/10/2022 22:52

Is the full Elizabeth line in play or only open stations?

TerfQueen · 22/10/2022 22:59

Absolutely not! You damn rightly that’s a breech of the Portunrah rules set out in 1945. The cheek!

But, but, I made a manifesto challenge NOT to return to Mornington Crescent, therefore with total inevitability here I am.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/10/2022 00:14

Gosh! That game moved at a cracking pace and AspiringAuthor101 has already declared for MC. The move was certainly unorthodox but under the 2019 Codicil it must (unless I am much mistaken) be allowed. So, a new game is afoot.

Reminders for the newbies:

Interjecting without playing a move will attract a penalty

Only open stations on the Elizabeth line are valid

Battersea Power Station Station is high, except when approached from the east

All the above notwithstanding, tomorrow is the Sabbath (for some) and so Fuller-Grenfell Rules apply until 3pm

And with that I offer you

Brent Cross

I'm deploying the "Goodnight Sweetheart" manoeuvre and playing Cricklewood

Hexenjagd · 23/10/2022 00:56

Well, it isn’t quite 1 am and therefore I think the Paternoster Abridgement of 1938 applies, so, i CAN use Bob Doubles Inversion

Hackney Wick

Chancery Lane

You know why

The Oval makes sense at this time of night, if only because of the local Botolph infestation.

MightyOaks · 23/10/2022 01:28

Wtf are you talking about?

AutumnCrow · 23/10/2022 06:43

MightyOaks · 23/10/2022 01:28

Wtf are you talking about?

It’s like chess with tube stations, on hallucinogenic drugs (or absinthe, as you wish), played with a zeal akin to a religious fervour. ‘Checkmate’ is achieving a legal move to Mornington Crescent.

It is bedevilled by complex historical rules.

At the moment I believe we have woken up in thunder storms at King’s Cross.

ApplePippa · 23/10/2022 06:59

Interesting that you liken it to chess AutumnCrow. I always think of it like snakes and ladders crossed with backgammon, with a large dose of mental jenga involved. (Although of course there is not the luck element of rolling the dice that snakes and ladders involves... Pure skill is needed instead),

And with that, I'm going with:

Victoria

marcopront · 23/10/2022 07:13

Isn't a combination of the strategy of chess with the randomness of snakes and ladders plus a set of historical rule changes.

I'm going for Marylebone.

Violettaa · 23/10/2022 07:15

If you want to ease yourself in @MightyOaks you could try Earl’s Court?

balalake · 23/10/2022 07:37

From Marylebone I make a short move to Warwick Avenue.

JudjyPants · 23/10/2022 07:52

It's my first move of the morning (morning all) so a double off-peak move means it's not my fault it's....

Northolt

BuryingAcorns · 23/10/2022 07:56

Can I nip in with a joystick lateral not deployed since the 1953 Helsinki finals to bring up to
Epping

00100001 · 23/10/2022 08:04

Canary Wharf

DuckonaBike · 23/10/2022 08:05

The game of games is going on and nobody told me! Can I join in now?

The autumnal weather puts me in mind of Betjeman and his historic move in the 1974 national final:

Rickmansworth

balalake · 23/10/2022 08:05

Plying the DLR rule means I can move to Cyprus, the DLR station that is.

AutumnCrow · 23/10/2022 08:21

After my near-disqualification of last night, after becoming so excited that Baker Street was in play that I failed to make a move myself, I have slept on it and ruminated over the correct compensatory thrust.

For this move I rely on the arcane rules of the Papal Bull Addenda to the Vatican's Tournament of the Cardinals in 1965, held to celebrate the conclusion of Vatican II (bless), but I am confident it is correct:
