The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

Seven Sisters

There's been much activity since I last posted, after much thought and consideration, I am tentively going to offer Manor House

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/02/2023 18:08

Nice. Let’s get numerical:

King George V

Cunning move Maud, and I was briefly bamboozled into thinking that we were on the Paris Metro! But I realised my mistake.

Limehouse

LlynTegid · 13/02/2023 21:26

Good job Limehouse is one station, not two or more as with Canary Wharf, as you'd be in Nidd for that.

Tower Gateway DLR.

TragicMuse · 14/02/2023 21:07

OH! Stanmore!

DuckonaBike · 14/02/2023 21:27

That’s a daring move Tragic, and just after we only narrowly avoided Nidd! Let’s see if I can get us back on the straight and narrow.

West Hampstead Thameslink

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/02/2023 22:29

Let’s go Thameslink:

Tulse Hill

OP posts:
LlynTegid · 16/02/2023 07:21

With the help of the London Overground rule we can get to Whitechapel.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 16/02/2023 12:58

Tally Ho!

Blackfriars

OP posts:
HazelBite · 16/02/2023 19:19

Tally Ho??
That takes me to Wood Green

DuckonaBike · 16/02/2023 20:39

Dear me…

Caledonian Road & Barnsbury

TragicMuse · 16/02/2023 22:18

You know me @DuckonaBike I like chancy play!

Ummmm, Angel Islington.

If you know, you know. 🤫

SomethingOnce · 16/02/2023 22:34

It’s cheeky, but can I risk a Stockwell cantilever?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 16/02/2023 23:22

There’s never a bad time for a Stockwell cantilever and it leads neatly to

Stonebridge Park

OP posts:
HazelBite · 17/02/2023 00:37

Huh, see where you're going with that I have nothing to offer other than Harrow & Wealdstone

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/02/2023 00:42

It is getting a little, shall we say, fruity, isn’t it? Reminds me of the time the Guildford heats were enlivened by the arrival of the Wing Commander, the cast of The Sound of Music and a crate of kumquats. In honour of which:

Covent Garden

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 17/02/2023 07:13

Indeed Maud, but what happened after that was frankly a waste of kumquats.

Barons Court

(And he was too on that occasion, if you will excuse the pun).

TragicMuse · 17/02/2023 08:45

I think the only viable move is Clapham High Street.

Otherwise we risk double nidd and consecutive knockings.

And I'm just not prepared to put anyone through it. Frankly, I don't think anyone ever truly gets over that. I'm still plagued by The Horror which followed Zermatt in '85. And I never got the stains out of my favourite peignoir despite my best efforts.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/02/2023 11:35

Oh. Zermatt. I like to believe I’m broad minded and a citizen of the world, but even I blanch at the memory. Euston when the Circle line is wild! Indeed! So, in search of some sanity and decorum

Westminster

OP posts:
HazelBite · 17/02/2023 15:24

I have only one thing to say Embankment

TragicMuse · 17/02/2023 15:50

Sharp intake of breath

Steady on @HazelBite ole thing!

Euston Square

LlynTegid · 17/02/2023 18:07

I think we need to move west a bit, so Ladbroke Grove.

DuckonaBike · 17/02/2023 22:08

<sigh of relief>

Great Portland Street

HazelBite · 17/02/2023 22:17

I see what you did there @DuckonaBike I feel compelled to go to Chalk Farm*!

SomethingOnce · 17/02/2023 23:31

A maiden aunt of mine once made a good deal of money betting on a predictable yet rather underhand diversionary move - which I’ll reprise here - to Theydon Bois. Of course, that sort of thing belongs to a bygone era, which is a great pity.
