The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

1000 replies

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/10/2022 18:10

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

Seven Sisters

This is getting bizarre! I was going to come in to offer Porte de Champerret but I feel that we should go back to basics and the game in its purest form so I am offering Oakwood
(The Colonel can put that in his pipe 😱)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/11/2022 00:27

The Colonel has indeed been known to put some, ahem, exotic substances in his pipe, which may explain why he has been a grand master of the game of games for many decades, interspersed with the occasional night in police cells.

Stockwell

The playing of the tramstop rule yesterday and then the international rule has caught be unawares a bit. The Colonel and the Major are both aghast whenever the international rule is played given their views on overseas matters, which are very firmly rooted in the age of the horse and cart.

Clapham South so I can go for a walk on this dry morning.

DuckonaBike · 19/11/2022 13:03

Yes, the Colonel is a bit set in his ways. I remember him getting into a terrible fracas involving Italian football supporters outside a Wetherspoons in Watford.

On that note, Waterloo

TragicMuse · 19/11/2022 13:32

Ah, the Colonel does have a curious attitude towards our Italian friends. Even The Contessa has been known to catch the rough side of his tongue and she is famous in diplomatic circles for her charm. She even got a smile out of dear Uncle Vladimir that year the championships were held in Petersburg.

How the autumn colours remind one of the Hermitage gardens at this time of year.

Onward to Forest Gate.

balalake · 19/11/2022 15:51

I think we could go nearer to the countryside from here and so via the Elizabeth line and that strange bit of London Overground, to Upminster.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 20/11/2022 14:39

I’m feeling adventurous this afternoon, so - although the naysayers will inevitably object - will attempt a Franklin’s Obverse to

Pontoon Dock

No objections here, @ComeIntoTheGardenMaud.

I'll try monument. Not sure if the rules strictly allow it but what the heck, it's Sunday and I'm feeling reckless.

TragicMuse · 21/11/2022 08:39

On a morning such as this I have an overwhelming urge to play Hendon Central.

Make of that what you will...

Moods, funny things.

balalake · 21/11/2022 10:28

I don't know if any moods will change by a move to Edgware, let's try and see.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/11/2022 12:30

On a grey and damp Monday, one feels that the best way to lift the spirits is by visiting

Honor Oak Park

OP posts:
DuckonaBike · 21/11/2022 13:14

That’s the spirit Maud. Let me continue the good work with

Oval

RomanMum · 21/11/2022 14:30

Swiss Cottage.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/11/2022 14:52

And it must surely be uplifting to visit

Kensal Rise

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 21/11/2022 17:02

Up to the clear air at Hampstead Heath

HazelBite · 21/11/2022 19:50

I feel moved to go for Northwood Hills

DuckonaBike · 21/11/2022 20:15

Let’s keep it bucolic (in name at least) with London Fields

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 21/11/2022 22:40

Oh, I say! Fortified by a creme de menthe or two, I’m feeling fruity, so naturally I’m heading to

Plumstead

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 22/11/2022 21:01

Heady stuff, creme de menthe!

Emboldened by that I'm going Dalston Kingsland

HazelBite · 22/11/2022 23:58

I feel inspired to contribute Goldhawk Road

balalake · 23/11/2022 06:42

Interesting use of the west London line rule I think here. Moving centrally to Euston Square.

DuckonaBike · 23/11/2022 07:25

Right ho, Balalake, I can see where you’re going there
<sucks teeth>

Chancery Lane

HazelBite · 23/11/2022 10:16

I can see where you are going there Temple

balalake · 23/11/2022 12:59

I play the never built but proposed extension rule, taking me from Temple via Aldwych to Holborn and Russell Square.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/11/2022 13:32

Oh no. We're perilously close to falling into knockings, but I think I can avoid that with a swift demi-shunt to

Hanger Lane
