The inevitable return of Mornington Crescent

As winter approaches and the nights draw in, one’s thoughts naturally turn to wholesome, homely entertainment. Instead, though, I invite experienced players and novices alike to join me in a game of Mornington Crescent.

To keep the pace gentle, I’ll begin with an inverse Lepton to

Seven Sisters

Nearly done Maud. No one wants to be in knockings.

Of the options available...St Paul's

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/11/2022 16:25

They certainly don’t. The Archbishop was very careless with a double splice on the Circle line in the Tokyo playoffs in ‘64 and the game was stalled in knockings for three days. Most frustrating, but we won’t fall into that trap now.

Brixton

A bit risky, but I'll try Edgware Road.

balalake · 23/11/2022 19:15

Oh dear, the incomplete naming of a station, as there are two Edgware Road stations. So the incomplete name rule means back to Brixton for the next move. The tournament of 1988 nearly ground to a halt because of Mill Hill being played and no-one knowing if it was a clever use of the Northern Heights rule or just the missing off of 'East'.

Let's move to Stockwell.

DuckonaBike · 23/11/2022 20:02

Dear me, yes, I remember it well. I believe things were clarified the following year with the 1989 Copenhagen Protocol.

Highbury & Islington

CharlotteStreet · 23/11/2022 20:33

Clapham Common <mic drop>

HazelBite · 23/11/2022 21:12

I see what you did there!
Bit tricky, and I'm a little nervous with this one Boston Manor

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/11/2022 22:51

Good shot, CharlotteStreet!

It has to be done

Epping

The closed lines rule should be used and so Ongar comes into play.

TragicMuse · 24/11/2022 19:56

Finchley Road and Frognal. *

<Smug>

DuckonaBike · 24/11/2022 20:37

You may well be smug, Tragic but

Willesden Junction

<smiles knowingly>

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 24/11/2022 21:24

If it’s junctions you want

Norwood Junction

OP posts:
balalake · 25/11/2022 07:14

Using the London Overground rule we can avoid too many junctions and end up at Honor Oak Park.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 25/11/2022 20:32

Let’s have a little more park life

Ravenscourt Park

OP posts:
balalake · 26/11/2022 09:21

And move to somewhere near to a lovely park, Osterley.

RomanMum · 26/11/2022 13:58

I'm feeling a bit wombley today -
Wimbledon Park

TragicMuse · 26/11/2022 16:22

I'm inexplicably drawn to Harrow On The Hill.

It's entirely a mystery as to why, but such are the vagaries of play. Sometimes an instinctive move is the only sensible option, Stovold notwithstanding.

Play to the mood!!

DuckonaBike · 26/11/2022 17:01

Like melancholy autumn, I find myself drawn to Wembley.

DuckonaBike · 26/11/2022 17:16

Apologies, I meant Wembley Park. Poetry overcame me.

balalake · 26/11/2022 18:00

A reverse (cannot remember the name adopted after the 1964 convention) to Ruislip Manor.

HazelBite · 26/11/2022 19:24

I'm very drawn to Watford

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/11/2022 00:48

Well, someone has to be but, personally, I prefer the leafy environs of

New Barnet

OP posts:
balalake · 27/11/2022 07:24

The night bus rule gets me to Oakwood.

DuckonaBike · 27/11/2022 08:12

Ooh! It’s Advent Sunday now so I can do a Whittaker shift to Angel!

I like to think that the Archbishop would approve.

lightlypoached · 27/11/2022 08:14

Having just popped back to the game, had to have to fan myself gently to get over the delight that my earlier suggestion of BHM map was -albeit briefly- welcomed and played.

This has emboldened me to suggest a move, forced by ongoing strike activity, to clickety -clack to Kentish Town, that famed interchange with a rival (inferior?) Rail network.
