Many already mentioned especially Homeward Bound.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence wiped me out.

JadeSeahorse · 22/10/2022 14:45

Definitely Hachi, Watership Down and Bridges of MC.

My all time sobfest creator though is Dances with Wolves and especially the relationship with Two Socks and at the end when KC is leaving with his wife and his Sioux friend follows yelling, " I am Wind in my Hair and I am your Friend." 😥

Manchester by the Sea I just didn't get at all and I normally cry at anything.

Oh God I forgot The Pursuit of Happyness. I've heard it referred to as a feel-good film - how??. I wanted to die after seeing it and certainly never want to see it again.

But it all works out in the end. they come through that awful time. And the dad is SO passionate about taking vcare of his son and improving their lot. I love that film. I found it very feelgood because he moved heaven and earth to turn his life around.

PermanentTemporary · 23/10/2022 11:41

What works out? Following a brutal unpaid competition with zero support and literally nothing except religious handouts, Dad wins a sales job because of his ability to learn fast, rise above toxic racism, use any contact he can and bullshit. They walk away from the shitty daycare in a basement with bars in the windows leaving how many kids in that environment due to a rigid 'self reliance' orthodoxy that says kids deserve nothing in their own right? I hated it.

I remember going to see Schindlers List at the Empire in Leicester Square. At the end my female friend went to the toilet & when she came back she told me the toilet was full of women sobbing (including Pat Butcher).

I didnt go to the toilet so cannot comment on the state of the men's.

"Lion" where the young man, Saroo, separated as a very young child and adopted, finally gets to meet his mother again.

Saving Mr Banks, where Pamela Travers as a young girl sees her father (Colin Farrell) die.

RyanGoslingsTan · 05/09/2023 19:18

Big Fish 😭

SquashPenguin · 05/09/2023 19:22

I watched Marley & Me for the second time the other day, only this time I have my own pet dog. I was sobbing my heart out cuddling him so tight.

Seychal · 05/09/2023 19:28

Most of the above for me. Can I mention in particular Sommersby, which another poster mentioned. The original was The Return of Martin Guerre (English translation). Sometimes in comes down to performances. Depardieu again in Jean de Florette and its sequel. The futility of striving when others are secretly working against us is borne by the most vulnerable in our societies, today. Time and time again.

The performance of Juliette Binoche in The English Patient.

For me, the saddest character was Pelagia in Captain Corelli's Mandolin. At the point of the earthquake. After a series of losses. Her mother when a child, her husband emotionally vacant, deserting her, her friends hanged by the Nazi's, her lover and her future packed off to Italy. When the earthquake hits her home has gone, her father probably too. In that moment Penelope Cruz captures real loss, wiping her face, mud, blood, tears and everything is removed. Has me silently crying all the time.

Himawarigirl · 05/09/2023 19:34

Stepmom. Such a cheesy film in many ways but great cast. I first watched it on a plane having just said bye to my mum and cried so, so much. The very reserved businessman next to me even asked if I was ok. Have seen it a few times since and still always cry.

curlykate99 · 05/09/2023 19:36

Grave of the fireflies

StColumbofNavron · 05/09/2023 19:51

The Lake House with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. It gets a lot of stick for the time element, but it’s just beautiful.

Noalcohol · 05/09/2023 20:22

Bridge to Terabithia

The Green Mile

My Girl

Laiste · 05/09/2023 20:39

The Green Mile.

Nothing comes close to how much that upsets me.

I sobbed so hard through the end of the book that i could hardly see the words.

Then when it came out in the cinema my best mate talked me into going with her and i cried so hard i came out of the cinema with the neck of my t shirt actually properly wet with tears!

Years later i tried watching the film again, DH wanted to watch it on TV. As soon as ''I'm in Heaven'' comes on and Tom Hanks goes out to visit the bloomin' mouse i'm gulping back the tears 😢I couldn't sit through it.

Never trying again.
