The Elephant Man / despite being a David Lynch film it's really well done and heartbreaking!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/10/2022 23:43

A Star is Born (most recent version) makes me properly sob.

Divebar2021 · 20/10/2022 23:48

Oh I’ve cried at a few of these ( including Watership Down and Free Willy) but I cried most dramatically at Bridges of Madison County.

Dallas buyers club.
The boy in the striped pyjamas.
The green mile.
Philadelphia.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/10/2022 00:05

An Affair to Remember

If they ever make a film of Miss Saigon, I don't think I could watch it at the cinema. I cried when I saw it in the theatre, and again when I saw the 25th anniversary broadcast at the cinema. Her nightmare, Bui Doi, the ending... basically the entire second half.

lotuspie · 21/10/2022 00:06

Schindler's list
Watership down
United 93
Train to aushwitz

ButtercreamBaker · 21/10/2022 00:14

Room, Grave of the fireflies and A dogs journey are the only films not already mentioned that had me bawling for days afterwards. I cried a bit at these too:

The time travellers wife
Me before you
When Marnie was there
The boy in the striped pyjamas
Charlie St Cloud

I do not watch any films with animal main characters. Reading a few of these posts have made me tear up.

StrangerOnline · 21/10/2022 07:38

Some brilliant films on here…

No one has mentioned Sommersby (Richard Gere & Jodie Foster)

  • very under-related
FeralWitch · 21/10/2022 07:51

I bloody love Sommersby. Nobody ever mentions it!

I doubly cry at that because I remember watching it in hospital while one of my DC was in SCBU 😢

PermanentTemporary · 21/10/2022 07:56

Oh God I forgot The Pursuit of Happyness. I've heard it referred to as a feel-good film - how??. I wanted to die after seeing it and certainly never want to see it again.

Alsonification · 21/10/2022 07:59

The notebook! Watched it, loved it but will never watch it again. The couple reminded me of my parents & I just couldn't cope with it at all. My parents are married 52 years & adore each other. Still hold hands when out walking. Would do anything for each other. They even worked together before they retired. I can't imagine one without the other & when I do it breaks my heart. The notebook made me cry so much the next day my eyes were still swollen. I'm selling up here now just thinking about it.

LaLoose · 21/10/2022 08:05

All of them. And I bet I'm not alone. I now don't watch films, the catharsis isn't a relief for me it's an added trauma. Might be a being-a-mother / perimenopause thing. You will rarely find me in front of the telly unless it's something completely benign (Bake Off)... and even then if they do contestants' backstories I will tear up. Even adverts make me cry. Last time I went to the cinema I ended up under the seat on the disgusting floor because I couldn't bear it.

Wolfieisagoodboy · 21/10/2022 09:29

Portrait of a Lady on fire. Such a beautiful film about love and loss.

Dave20 · 21/10/2022 21:56

Anyone seen Parenthood with Steve Martin?
Really emotional movie. So many great parts.
The son diagnosed with a form of autism. The grandmother talking about life being a rollercoaster.
The ending when the school play goes wrong, so funny but emotional too.
It still stands the test of time today.

beachcitygirl · 21/10/2022 22:01
