<fingers in ears> La-la-la-la!
Grin

😂 I think I must have only been 4/5/6 and I was so confused as I loved that programme but my parents were very odd about it

PaulineFowlersCardigan · 20/10/2022 12:01

Stephen Graham

Sick and tired of people slagging David Jason off. His mum in law is good friends with my partner's mum and she knows David and his wife well.

Wow, she must have good genes! Unless his wife is significantly younger than he is.

I can vouch for the fact that he is. I run an event every year which he attends and is lovely to every member of staff, and goes down to the kitchen to personally thank everyone from the head chef to the kitchen porters for their hard work.

Aww - now that's what it looks like. What a nice guy.

StElwicks · 20/10/2022 12:04

My sister worked with Huw Edwards and said he was lovely, incredibly friendly and chatty.

I'm so glad to learn that - I love him, too. And he does a lovely "talking book" for Audible.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/10/2022 12:04

Ah, just seen that she's 20 years his junior.

Read on here that someone met Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal with her DS and Roger Federer was snooty and impatient and not interested. In contrast to Rafa, who apparently crouched down so the DS could talk to him properly, was sweet, and just laughed when the DS told him his favourite player was Djokovic Grin

Benedict Cumberbatch: an acquaintance met him in a work capacity and said he was rude, although I don't have any further details. But he's one of my top celebrity fantasy shags, so I persist in thinking it was a one-off/a bad day.

I thought Roger Federer was ‘Mr Nice’. That would be gutting if untrue😕

Satsuma2 · 20/10/2022 12:05

Dolly
Richard E Grant
Miriam Margolyes- I want to be like her when (if! ) I grow up.

HerbertChops · 20/10/2022 12:05

I had the misfortune to work on Only Fools and Horses with David Jason and he was vile to his co-workers. All the other actors were lovely. I’m sure he’s lovely to his friends, as they’re his friends? Doesn’t mean he’s nice to work with.

dontputitthere · 20/10/2022 12:05

Can confirm David Attenborough is lovely. I've worked with him and several friends have too. All said the same thing. It's a bit like working with god.

Lots of 'celebrities' make loads of demands on their rider. Ridiculous shit. (My favourite was the actress who insisted the ice cubes be made from a specific brand of water)

David Attenborough didnt ask for anything. Even when I was like we're getting you lunch. You can have literally anything! He just asked for a sandwich.

He took the time to chat to me about stuff. He's so knowledgeable. But also keen to share that knowledge. Honestly one of the best jobs of my life.

David Jason's wife is much younger than him.

I know an actor in IRL they are a truly awful and nasty individual. Ive known them and their family for most of my life, im in my 50s. Can't even blame any dependencies of alcohol or drugs, they have been like this their whole life, but they are unrecognisable in interviews, thats where they get their acting credit. I abjectly avoid any production they are in as I can't see past the real person.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/10/2022 12:08

Pickledhen

Is it anybody who's already been named on here?

ThatCheeseIsMine · 20/10/2022 12:08

Richard E Grant - he has a reputation for being nice to waiting staff though so I hope I’m right in thinking he really is nice.

Martine croxall - she just seems like she would be a fab friend

Carol Kirkwood

Maggie aderin pocock - another one I think I could be mates with!

Definitely an excellent fantasy dinner party!

Badger1970 · 20/10/2022 12:11

Chris Martin (Coldplay) always seems so genuine and warm. I'd hate that to be an illusion.

JenniferBarkley · 20/10/2022 12:11

Dara O Briain

Michael Schumacher (in his former life)
Seb Vettel (impossible that he isn't lovely)

Tina Fey

Agree about George Russell. The bit in Drive to Survive where he was happy about normal people on normal money losing their jobs was an instant turn off for me. My mum watched it separately and said the same, months later. Stuck in both our heads.

Sick and tired of people slagging David Jason off. His mum in law is good friends with my partner's mum and she knows David and his wife well. He is lovely. He is a quiet and thoughtful man. Not fair to say these things when you do not know a person

People on here are not claiming to know the person the in question. I've met him twice and he was rude. His MIL might be lovely.
Also a friend spent some time with him in a professional capacity and he was rude and off hand.

Fireballxl5 · 20/10/2022 12:13

@HerbertChops I don’t disbelieve you but what constitutes vile?
Did David Jason ignore people, cut them dead, make rude remarks?

katseyes7 · 20/10/2022 12:13

My ex worked in tv for a very long time.
He worked on A Touch of Frost and he said that David Jason was 'difficult'. That's as much as l can say on here.
He also worked with James Nesbitt, and he said he was wonderful. He was particularly impressed that he took time and made the effort to remember the names of the crew working on the shoot. He once stopped my ex on the stairs and asked how his mum was doing (she was terminally ill). He was very impressed by that.

I bet it's Tom Hanks. 😂

Tbh I imagine all celebrities are vile irl.

DismantledKing · 20/10/2022 12:16

Anytime a thread like this pops up, Anthony Head’s name usually pops up. Nobody who has ever met him has a bad word to say about him apparently

ThatCheeseIsMine · 20/10/2022 12:16

Oh yes Dolly Parton! She can’t be horrible, she just can’t!

I have seen first hand how someone in the public eye can build a nice (or funny/ditsy/witty/kind etc) persona, it’s part of what they do. The person I know IRL - a pop singer - isn’t horrible or mean, she’s just self-interested and hard as nails. If she wasn’t, she’d be unlikely to have done so well. But the person she is is not what you see in interviews etc. A lot of “lovely” celebs probably are not.

However some must actually be nice people by the law of averages, so I still hold out hope for my favourites.
