Tom Hanks.

@Howappropriate Can confirm that Maxine Peake is an utter delight. She was so kind to my dds when we met her.

Somethingsnappy · 21/10/2022 20:20

Miranda Hart. I totally love her.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 21/10/2022 20:22

Okay, you got me. Who is 'Super Vet?'

Somethingsnappy · 21/10/2022 20:25

And my DH says James May. Sorry, I mean Bim.

Noel Fitzpatrick I think

JoonT · 21/10/2022 20:30

Stephen Fry. Listening to him read Sherlock Holmes or P G Wodehouse while I lie in a hot bath is one of my big pleasures. I would be so gutted to meet him and find he was rude or arrogant.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/10/2022 20:32

Prince Andrew.

What a fine upstanding pillar of society Prince Andrew is. He takes time out of his busy day to act as Special Representative for International Trade and Investments. Sometimes he has had to fly around the world to do this in his own time and having to stay in the house of someone he barely knows.

Also he represents himself at golf tournaments after being flown there in a helecopter called Budgie.

What better...

Hold on a mo!
Someone's just dropped a copy of a
newspaper on my desk....

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Things may not be quite what I thought...

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 21/10/2022 20:32

Ignore prior super vet post. Google is my friend.

Agree about Tony Hart. His was the sort of gentle, unassuming persona you just wouldn't get fronting TV these days, where sadly a more confrontational culture/personality type took over and got set in its rot.

Plus he was a really, really talented artist, and could turn out brilliant work at such amazing speed: an enviable gift. It takes me hours to churn out a remotely passable drawing.

I just can't imagine anything untoward coming out about him. Looking back at Rolf, he was an equally talented but his old song 'Jake the Peg' (and that wasn't the only one) should have been the first warning klaxon ...

Dave Grohl

Lovely guy, I have met him personally

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 21/10/2022 20:42

Ian McKellen

There are quite a few 'suggestions' online that might be (or might not be) pertinent there.

The last time I saw Tony Hart on TV, I was really surprised, as he was wearing a dressing gown. Men of his generation would frequently not be seen in the high street in anything but a smart suit and tie, let alone on TV! Not that that has any bearing on his character in any way, though; I just wasn't expecting it!

Kylie Minogue
Dermot O'Leary

Also agree re Rylan!

Dermot is genuinely lovely! Spent quite a bit of time with him and he was lovely to talk to and made such an effort. Really polite too.

Once stood in a taxi queue at Cambridge Station and he was standing chain smoking and looking malevolently around him radiating fuck off I don't want your attention. A massive coke head back in the day.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 21/10/2022 20:45

Not Tony Hart. I really really don’t want to believe that.

Alijaz from Strictly (not even going to attempt to spell his surname)

People who I used to like until I found out they weren't quite as nice as I thought

Chris Pratt
Rolf Harris
JK Rowling (still quite like her tbh but I was disappointed with her TERF views)
John Cleese

AnImaginaryCat · 21/10/2022 20:56

Several mentioned already (including David Attenborough, Alan Rickman, Flotilla Benjamin).

One not mentioned is Roy Castle. If it turned out he wasn't nice my whole childhood would turn out a lie.

Think I'm safe though, he died a long time ago and nothing has surface. Not even any bubbles as far as I'm aware.

vera99 · 21/10/2022 20:56

I'm going to ask for those posts to be withdrawn. Whilst it might be informed speculation there is nothing to be gained by such gossip and there was certainly no wrongdoing.

I always liked him before and thought he was probably nice, utter prick

He has an air of smug entitlement.

And arrogance.

Take some deep, calming breaths and pour yourself a large gin before you read any further.

SequinsandStilettos · 21/10/2022 21:05

Jason Manford had the sexting scandal.
Scofe had the whole "mentoring" his runner then letting him go to another show.
Anne Diamond was a sore loser and awful to him on House of Games, according to James Acaster.

JK Rowling's TERF views??!
Wtf?

IF this is true, (and I consider it a very big IF) and they were both "free agents" so to speak, then that is their business and no-one else's.

As far as I am aware he was not unpleasant, arrogant, rude or in any other way vile to anyone in his circle or to any of his many fans.

(I have nothing but affection for him and is show, either)

Ignore it.

Not worth the effort - a deliberate attempt to stir up enmity.
