Which hot chocolate will make me like hot chocolate?

I dont like tea or coffee but really feel like I would like to at least like hot chocolate I feel like I'm missing out when all around seem to be walking around with nice warming hot drinks from Costa etc. I like chocolate so I should like hot chocolate shouldn't I? The only time I've had it as a child was some sort of powder mixed with boiling water and it pretty much just tasted like hot brown water. So where should I go/what should I buy to try to like hot chocolate?

I want a nice hot chocolate at home. I've tried posh versions and cheap versions and i need a middle ground!

legophoenix · 19/10/2022 18:52

Costa hot chocolate is lovely.
I think it's just the Cadbury powder and hot milk.
Everywhere else I've tried it's too sickly.

You probably had cocoa as a child - that's what my grandparents gave me and you've described it perfectly Grin

Cadbury Drinking Chocolate in the purple tub for at home 👍🏼

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 19/10/2022 18:54

M&S instant sachets are surprisingly good.

Lidl do an amazing salted caramel one thats really chocolaty and not too sweet at all!

Idiotathome79 · 19/10/2022 18:55

I have a velvetiser and the hotel hot chocolate is divine we only use it occasionally though ( mostly Sunday evenings 🤦🏻‍♀️) as it's pricy .

My daughter bought the B&M version for 25£ and loves it

Cadbury Drinking Chocolate powder. Heat up a mug of milk in the microwave, and then stir in 3-4 teaspoons depending on the size of your mug. Delicious!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 19/10/2022 19:00

Hot milk and a good dark one like the lidl one in the dark tub with blue writing or the tesco finest. They are basically a cocoa and sugar mix so take a bit longer to stir in but worth it.

Or you can make really lovely thick Spanish style with grated chocolate, bit of icing sugar to taste depending on taste and what chocolate you've used and corn flour. Add to milk in a pan and whisk as you heat gently until it thickens.

Lagattolove · 19/10/2022 19:00

1 to 2 spoons of Cocoa powder with a small amount of milk to mix into a paste. Heat milk in a pan not boiling. Pour over the paste and sweeten to taste. Add vanilla or a bit of salt for a twist.

Costa everytime. Its the best especially with a bit cream and marshmallows x

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 19/10/2022 19:01

Costa, cadburys or galaxy but be generous with how much powder you use or it won't taste of much. Can make with more milk than water to make it a bit more decadent

Ship · 19/10/2022 19:03

The Cadbury one with milk (not water) is lovely. Also you can boil your own milk and add chocolate to it to melt like a hot chocolate bomb. 5 terrys choc orange pieces make a lovely orange hot choc or you could try galaxy, Cadbury, whatever is your favourite. If you want it extra creamy use whole milk. If you want it to be Christmassy add baileys! Oh and cream and marshmallows too on top of course

VelvetSwimmingCrab · 19/10/2022 19:03

It's all about the sugar and marshmallows.

tealandteal · 19/10/2022 19:03

Costa is quite nice, but I definitely prefer making it at home so I can put in an u reasonable amount of marshmallows. Definitely the ones that are made with hot milk and not water are the best. Whitt at DS do a nice selection of flavoured ones - mint/orange etc which I really like.

Itisbetter · 19/10/2022 19:03

Chocolate milk and a bit of corn flour.

tealandteal · 19/10/2022 19:04

I meant Whittards!

Itisbetter · 19/10/2022 19:04

Sorry missed a comma! Chocolate and milk and a bit of corn flour

TheChosenTwo · 19/10/2022 19:05

I don’t drink hot drinks and hate almost all hot chocolates apart from the hotel chocolat blackforest hot chocolate sachets. I bought a box and maybe had 2 last year (dds finished them off!) - more hot drinks than I’ve had in the last 10 years! I heat milk in a pan and add the sachet, then whisk. I use only a small pan and less milk than it says so it’s quite an enhanced flavour. Delicious. Might buy another box actually!
hate all other imitations with the dry powder and water, even the dusty powders with milk don’t have much flavour.

PleaseStopExplaining · 19/10/2022 19:06

I’m another who doesn’t like tea and coffee. I only like hot chocolate when it’s made with milk.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 19/10/2022 19:06

Costa ( when it's on club card price in Tescos )

The Aldi Belgian chocolate one is really nice, and I also like bournville cocoa powder done with half hot water and half milk to make it creamier and a teaspoon of sugar stirred in to take the edge of the bitterness off.

Boxofsockss · 19/10/2022 19:08

Get a hotel Chocolat velvetister and a selection of their hot chocolates. Lots of flavours. Best home made hot choc I’ve ever had by far!

surreygirl1987 · 19/10/2022 19:36

Costa hot chocolate is the best.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 19/10/2022 19:47

Hotel Chocolat - if there's a shop near you with a cafe get a takeout, if not you can buy it and make with hot milk. Have a milk and dark choc version. Also if you are vegan the hazelnut version is also amazing

Noluthando · 19/10/2022 19:51

I don't like any pre- made hot chocolate powders. I mix 1 teaspoon of Cadbury Bourneville cocoa with 1 teaspoon sugar and a little milk to make a paste and add to hot milk. It's a bit of a faff but superior to anything else for me.
