From looking on google maps and street view.

Looks a little 'Toytown' but clean, new and purpose built .

Has any one been ? Live there?

Some PPs have described Pounbury as "odd and soulless" so just like Jug Ears.

Always thought Camilla would be much more fun than him

Sounds like Celebration in Florida, which was when we got lost and found ourselves there in the 90s extremely creepy in a Stepford kind of way.

Check out some of the rules residents are bound by, for example there are weight limits for pets!!!!!!

We had a drive round Celebration in Florida, it was very uniform and very strange. Hard to explain - perhaps it was the absence of any atmosphere, just a huge housing estate.
And nearly deserted.

We call in and have a drive round on our way back from Devon. We always say we love it and could live there. Several tours round it on YouTube you can watch.

My dad was posted at the army camp that was there before Poundbury was built. The last time we went there most of it was an industrial estate.

That's old Poundbury, which is still industrial estate and '60s housing (and Poundbury Hill Fort, after which it's all named) - not Charles's bit, new Poundbury. That was built on farmland.

I love the look and idea of it. Would definitely be keen to live there if I was in that area. I think I read all the houses are meant to be 10 mins walk from a shop. It looks so friendly and walkable with all the houses opening onto the street like a village, but all the houses seem to have off street parking and nice little gardens tucked round the back.

I think it's very cleverly done, and much much nicer than your standard new build estate. Lovely designs, variety of housing, nice squares and pubs and parks to walk to. All designed to flow, none of the leaky , draughty problems with period houses, all mod cons like ensuites designed in from the beginning.

The streets look really tidy and cute. There's something very appealing about it to me!

I wouldn't be so sure that it's not drug

Posted too soon. Damn phone!

I wouldn't be so sure that it's not draughty. Some of the residents have complained that their wooden window frames have rotted. They want to replace them with alternatives but aren't allowed.

My 8 year old DD (as was) referred to Poundbury as 'modernly old fashioned'.

They can have that for their sales literature.

@Lurleene ooh sounds interesting! I will have a closer look on my day off because it looks like a bit of a rabbit hole and I'm a sucker for falling down those!

I've never been to Poundbury but I love the look/sound of it.

I used to rent a house in Mawsley, which is a new build village in the middle of Northamptonshire designed to look like the surrounding villages. It was obviously very stark and soulless to begin with, but it's matured and weathered really nicely now. I think Poundbury will age well too. Both are "marmite" places that you love or hate. Personally I'd much rather see a bit of character in new developments, makes a pleasant change.

We moved to Poundbury a couple of months ago from a bigger city. We really like it. We have 2 DCs 8 and 6. It feels really safe for them when they start going out on their own. Everything is within walking distance so you do not need to use the car. Great kids park. Great pub a few mins walk away. Also the houses do not overlook each other in the way they have been positioned. We don’t mind the funny rules - like you are not allowed to leave your wheelie bin out on the street.
