From looking on google maps and street view.

Looks a little 'Toytown' but clean, new and purpose built .

Has any one been ? Live there?

@ThatGirlInACountrySong Christ, I just read that back and realised how MN it sounded! Sorry!!

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 19/10/2022 19:15

@2reefsin30knots

HAha thought you were taking the piss for a minute! It's fine, you aren't alone. I often do things and think 'ooooh VERY mumsnet!'

I meant the Christmas decorations for sale in the garden centre are lovely. I don't think they decorate the streets as such.

It’s got exactly the same feel about it as the Nansledan in Newquay Cornwall. That’s something to do with the Duchy of Cornwall too. Both places are soulless.

This. Charles is also behind the new mock-Georgian development at the top of Truro, where a beautiful valley was desecrated for dull, soulless £600k townhouses, a Waitrose and a park and ride. Nansledan baffles me - it looks like it dropped out of the sky, curiously at complete odds with its surroundings and the local architecture. And WTF were they thinking with the orange roof on the school? I bet you can see that from space.

dubyalass · 19/10/2022 19:20

Truro has a beautiful Georgian centre, but where they've put this is all 50s Cornish Unit council estates and 60s-80s identikit builds. It's just bizarre.

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 19/10/2022 19:24

Nandledan not readily available on street view yet.

Yes the school roof is orange!

You're not missing much 😂

dubyalass · 19/10/2022 19:37

Ooh cracking cake shop there though. Well worth a visit.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 19/10/2022 19:42

Sounds like Celebration in Florida, which was when we got lost and found ourselves there in the 90s extremely creepy in a Stepford kind of way.

Check out some of the rules residents are bound by, for example there are weight limits for pets!!!!!!

Where? I need to know.

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 19/10/2022 19:47

Just looked at celebration in Florida. Very similiar!

On All4 or Netflix, episode 4 of series 2 of The Windsors is set in Poundbury and I'm sure is very true to life.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/10/2022 15:37

It looks very staged. Reminds me of the sets at universal studios in Florida (from just looking at street view)

I was just going to say the same! It looks like it has a Stepford vibe...

Where? I need to know.

In Nansledan? It's Ladyvale bakery. If coming from St Col Minor, turn right at the roundabout into Stret Euther Pendragon (🙄) keep going and it's on the right. The cakes are outrageous.

Lovemelovemydoggie · 19/10/2022 20:16

It’s incredibly sort after locally, especially with slightly older people. I like some of the independent shops and cafes. I think it will age well.
It is however IMO getting too big and ruins the setting of Maiden Castle (the amazing Iron Age hill fort close by).

chali7 · 19/10/2022 20:20

I live nearby - there's some quirky businesses there, some nice independents. It's King Charles' vision, passed on now to William. If you do go there, swing by Brewery Square - it's close by and full of fantastic businesses, a cinema, water fountains etc.

Lots of the infrastructure seems to be named after members of the royal family: Queen Mother Square, Prince of Wales primary school, Dutches of Cornwall pub. It seems like a place which lacks culture.

Lacks what culture, what on earth does that mean?

bellac11 · 19/10/2022 20:29

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 19/10/2022 18:11

Yes!!!

But I had 'visited' Poundbury some time ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself! ( on street view, not in person)

I'm a bit odd like that, I love travelling the world on street view. I can't be the only one!

It is my actual hobby

I should put it on my CV!

bellac11 · 19/10/2022 21:09

Ive just looked this place up, I like it

I like the fact that all the social and affordable housing is integrated into the other housing, theres nothing that stands it out as different tenures

In addition buyers have the opportunity to buy at discount and sell at discount, making accommodation more affordable

IScreamMonday · 19/10/2022 21:19

We visited while on holiday near there as needed to stick up on some picnic food and were surprised to like it. Friendly people at the park, quirky design and a good few independents.

Nat6999 · 19/10/2022 21:32

My dad was posted at the army camp that was there before Poundbury was built. The last time we went there most of it was an industrial estate.

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 20/10/2022 00:03

Very pricey on right move

Interiors are more basic but that's new build style I guess

I know someone who lives there…. Apparently you’re not allowed to dry your clothes outdoors?!

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 20/10/2022 00:36

I love looking at places on streetview, I'd looked at Poundbury a few weeks ago. Then I looked on Rightmove to have a nose inside the houses. It's a great hobby!

Lurleene · 20/10/2022 00:40

@ThatGirlInACountrySong @bellac11 do you ever go on Geoguessr? If not you might like it 😉

Re Poundbury, there was an episode of Electric Dreams filmed there a few years ago. A futuristic series on C4. If you can find it anywhere it is worth a look.
