From looking on google maps and street view.

Looks a little 'Toytown' but clean, new and purpose built .

Has any one been ? Live there?

I live nearby and I want to move there, I love it. Wide pavements, you can park anywhere, excellent schools, gorgeous houses, easy access to beautiful countryside and the coast. The best playpark for miles around. The GP surgery that we are registered at in Poundbury is amazing! Thirty per cent of the houses are low cost but you can't tell which ones. Shops and business units are available to rent to small businesses at a low cost.

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 19/10/2022 16:00

I didn't see a school!

It reminds me of Seaside, Florida (where The Truman Show was filmed). According to Wikipedia, they're both built with the same underlying principle albeit in different styles.

Keroppi · 19/10/2022 16:09

Yes, it's lovely. I drive through it and do enjoy looking at it lol. I love the traditional style, so much nicer than bog standard new build style. More of a community feel now, lots of local independent shops on the high street and I read an article saying it's actually quite diverse age/ethnicity wise.
Nice shared ownership houses and affordable houses etc

They're building more houses in a different era style now I think too

Lojama75 · 19/10/2022 16:12

Weirdest place I've ever lived.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 19/10/2022 16:13

Reminds me of Pleasantville. A bit creepy and staged.

I'm sure some dark shit goes on in Poundbury behind those neo Georgian facades.

AriettyHomily · 19/10/2022 15:34

hadn't heard of it until today until I saw the news where a woman attacked her BFs ex with a stilleto shaped perfume bottle

That will have put house prices down!

Lots of the infrastructure seems to be named after members of the royal family: Queen Mother Square, Prince of Wales primary school, Dutches of Cornwall pub. It seems like a place which lacks culture.

Cyclingforcake · 19/10/2022 16:25

It’s built on Duchy of Cornwall land hence the names. How much culture do you expect in a small market town in rural Dorset?
There is a primary school.

Queen Vic pub, Albert Square...

You've been reading stories about women attacking each other with perfume bottles haven't you OP?
😂

onmywayamarillo · 19/10/2022 16:53

When driving past I always think it's a big tescos and am always disappointed that it's just odd soulless streets

pyjamafashionista · 19/10/2022 16:55

Straight to Google streetview 🤣

LynneBenfield · 19/10/2022 16:58

Charlie’s pet project, a bunch of naff, fake period new builds. A Barratt estate with ideas above its station.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 19/10/2022 17:06

Does the perfume bottle attacker live in Poundbury? Wasn’t there a woman who got evicted from the village for having too much flower pots?

what sort of punishment will be meted out by the village for this one?

Scary….it’s almost Halloween. I’m going to plump for tied to stocks and pecked by crows.

It was an odd moment as I'd never heard of Poundbury then saw both this article and this thread in the space of five minutes...

Yes!!!

But I had 'visited' Poundbury some time ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself! ( on street view, not in person)

I'm a bit odd like that, I love travelling the world on street view. I can't be the only one!

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 19/10/2022 18:14

I think Poundbury is very 'mumsnet'...can imagine us all living there with a Waitrose within a stones throw and social housing all mixed in with nobody knowing who lives in what!

And there's a garden centre! Perfect

But no dog poo bins

OP posts:
Todowithbuses · 19/10/2022 18:25

It’s got exactly the same feel about it as the Nansledan in Newquay Cornwall. That’s something to do with the Duchy of Cornwall too. Both places are soulless.

2reefsin30knots · 19/10/2022 18:54

It's basically Duloc from Shrek. Every time I go there I expect this to play as I pull in:

Lojama75 · 19/10/2022 18:56

The pub is locally known as The Nags Head Grin

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 19/10/2022 19:00

@2reefsin30knots

Why do you go there? Is it for work?

OP posts:
SweetSakura · 19/10/2022 19:00

I did some conveyancing for a property in Poundbury a decade or so ago and was shocked by the multiple layers of service charges

knittingaddict · 19/10/2022 19:10

We go there fairly frequently. The garden centre is lovely and the Christmas decorations are amazing.

It's a weird place. I don't think I could live there as it has the vibe of an upmarket theme park. Fascinating though.

2reefsin30knots · 19/10/2022 19:11

@ThatGirlInACountrySong I pass by coming home from the sailing academy and sometimes stop in at Waitrose.
