Struggling to cope week 5 of splatter diorheah from 5 months kitten

I've started a thread in litter ( before the thread zealots) jump on me.

I'm now struggling to cope with cat diorheah.

Five week's in.

Splash everywhere her butt and trousers splattered...walls in it...we are having to confine her to the kitchen.

She has a walk on a lead and one hour of play inside. Otherwise she's smearing poo.

We have wipes but are careful as they hurt her.

Poo samples are clear but not back on the one beginning with C.
If that's clear we look at other stuff.

We live in a small house. One main living area and a closed off kitchen.

It's a horror show. I've had pets before and nothing like this. It's my worst nightmare in. Pet. My girls cant hug their pet.

What else can we do..i dare not change food .

Is there anything I can ask vet for or do.

I did buy some special gastro cat food and it's done nothing.
I'm desperate. I'm extremely worried about hygene.

The vet said not to change foods whilst dealing with this problem..
However I naughty tried to use some of that gastro stuff and it's not helped.

Is she up to date on worming? It's recommended to worm kittens every month.

sjxoxo · 18/10/2022 21:30

I’d be asking the vets to keep her in and see if they can treat her.. Is she drinking ok? Agree make sure she’s wormed. The vet must have something they can give to help her surely! X

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 18/10/2022 21:32

Definitely wormed and so far the poo samples said clear of eggs etc.

She's very good at drinking water and amazingly, putting on weight!

Has the vet suggested trying a probiotic paste? It helps resettle the gut and also firms up the poo.

Horsemad · 18/10/2022 21:46

What food is she on?

glassfully · 18/10/2022 21:55

Ours took a while to settle. Lots of gastro food didn't work but we eventually found one that did (royal canin). While we were figuring it out, our vet gave us this paste which worked well https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Kolin-Advanced-for-Cats-15ml/dp/B07K1HM75J/ref=ascdff_B07K1HM75J/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218787967608&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13382477933535698220&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006638&hvtargid=pla-762767715597&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

She shouldn't be going outside at all when she's this poorly.

Is she spayed?
Have the vets done allergy tests? My youngest cat had awful poo on tuna and tuna flavoured foods. Once we cut tuna from his diet he was fine.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 18/10/2022 22:31

No she's not spayed and goes outside on a harness.

She has Waitrose food, wet and kitten iams.
Mixed in with royal canin special sensitive gastro.

Horse mad, yes, first of all vet gave us probiotic paste and it didn't do anything.
Then we had anitbiotocs which really seemed to make a huge difference in only 3 doses.

But unfortunately that didn't last and went down hill after a week and we are back to utter splatter. 😭

That's quite a mix of foods. It could be that the Waitrose food isn't agreeing with her. Wean her into the RC gastro over a week or so and just keep her on the dry for now. Give her a couple of weeks on that and if it doesn't help then try a different brand gastro.

QuestionableMouse · 18/10/2022 22:53

Also - she's not getting dairy from somewhere is she? Mine gets awful runs if she manages to steal ice cream or yoghurt 😂

Do you feed treats?

Horsemad · 18/10/2022 23:07

I'd just feed small amounts of cooked chicken for a few days & then start on a grain free, good quality food.

justasking111 · 18/10/2022 23:10

Giardia testing??

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 18/10/2022 23:11

@Horsemad thanks.

Can you be more specific. What type of cooked chicken? Thigh? Breast? I assume you mean boiled?
Plain in water?

We had a kitten came into contact with a wood treatment fluid we'd used on the decking. Vet didn't know if she'd survive. He said three months of plain white fish with rice and pray. I bought frozen fish, defrosted, microwaved, boiled up rice for three long months. It worked thankfully

MissMaple82 · 18/10/2022 23:25

Probiotic paste

Infracat · 18/10/2022 23:27

Cooked chicken breast. We use frozen ones.

Infracat · 18/10/2022 23:28

Cook them in the oven

SnarkyBag · 18/10/2022 23:29

I had this but with a puppy not kitten. Chicken made it worse. In the end switched to plain white fish which really helped and since then we have stuck to fish based, grain free foods. No idea if it applied to kittens but chicken and rice can be quite an irritant to sensitive dog tummy’s

coldandverytired · 18/10/2022 23:36

I had a kitten the same, turned out it was Campylobacter from our well water which got her as she was so tiny compared to the rest of us who had long since become immune to it (farm... inevitable that there are some bugs lurking really!) solved with colloidal silver (a bit woo but it worked).

Cost a fortune in tests mind, we also used Royal Canin Veterinary gastro kitten food and pro-kolin. They're both fine now thankfully, but I had convinced myself she had all sorts of terrible illnesses.

FYI poo tests are much cheaper if you send them direct to PALS vet lab- got the results in a day or so and they send a comprehensive report of what strain was resistant to what antibiotics etc, very very good service.

caringcarer · 18/10/2022 23:37

I had a kitten once that had sensitive stomach and runny poo. I was told stop cat food offer fish/chicken mixed with white boiled rice. After about 6 days tummy cleared up. I just bought 3 chicken breast each week and cooked in foil in oven. Chopped finely and mixed with rice. I used to make about 6 meals at a time and freeze 5. Then fed one each day. Other days frozen coly fillet fish, cooked in oven on foil, mixed with rice.

Thelnebriati · 18/10/2022 23:41

Try a big pinch of arrowroot powder in each of her meals. Its very good for gastric upsets and diarrhoea, and is safe for cats. You can get a box of arrowroot powder in international stores for around £2, its like corn starch.

Mine gets a bad stomach if I feed him any supermarket food, aside from the fancier ones, which work out too expensive for my budget. So I feed him human grade meat (chicken mince, poached chicken, canned tuna in springwater, canned sardines in springwater etc) - whatever is on sale. His dry food is grain free (Applaws).

It actually works out cheaper as I buy a whole chicken or drumsticks or whatever is on sale/yellow stickered and throw it into the Instant Pot for pressure cooking. He eats roughly 30gm per meal of meat so I end up with quite a few meals. I freeze them in portion sizes (a large ice cube tray works).

I would feed your kitty poached chicken for a week, so his stomach settles.
