How can I get a Tesco clubcard without giving them my address?

I had one years ago and was inundated with unsolicited mail. I stopped. We now live with a very small Tesco nearby. I use when I am desperate. BUT they are charging about double price for certain things unless you have a club card.

I was reading a Twitter thread a few days ago about a Tesco that's trialling a 'clubcard customers only' shop. I'm not usually a tinfoil hatter but I dread this being the way all supermarket chains go. Having to hand over data if you want to buy a loaf of bread. Soon just giving them our cash won't be enough.

Not wanting the vouchers is bonkers, it's literally money off.

I save mine all year and use them at christmas. I have almost £60 worth just from doing my weekly shop.

If you have a Tesco credit card and want to gain Tesco points when using your credit card, I don't see how a false address would work.

I don’t bother with the faff of vouchers. I have one and have no idea where it is registered to as I don’t get emails or junk. I save 20-25% every week. Make an address up.

What's the "faff of vouchers"? Our family receives around £20 in bar coded vouchers every quarter to spend on anything in store.

£80 of your shop a year? No thanks, I find vouchers too complicated? Confused

Give them a fake address, name too if you like!

Stroopwaffle5000 · 19/10/2022 12:15

I get no mail and vouchers via the app

SmileyClare · 19/10/2022 12:23

It’s a bit daft giving a fake address. Why not use one of the duplicate club cards sent to a friend or family member? I’m sure they’d be glad of the extra vouchers on their account.

Sewraymesewla · 19/10/2022 12:24

I think you just be able to opt out, I got one for the same reasons last year and I’m sure I’ve never had any post from them (nor emails either) I just checked my emails and I have one from eons ago.

Bonjovispjs · 19/10/2022 12:28

This doesn't make any sense. You want a clubcard to save you money, but don't want a simple voucher which is also to save money? It's hardly a complicated process to just hand a voucher over at the till.

I get Clubcard vouchers digitally on my Clubcard app. I don't know if this is because I set my preferences that way?

My brother in law’s boss got investigated for tax fraud and one thing that was questioned was why he always paid in cash for a large weekly shop with no way to explain where that cash came from.

Having a clubcard attached to your name and address means your spending habits can be viewed by HMRC or the police if part of an investigation.

I suppose that’s one reason people might be hesitant to give their address Hmm

Even then it wouldn't be an issue, unless you had something to hide

DD has a photo of the QR code on my CC saved to her phone so scans that for offers. She doesn't want her own or use her address.
Win win because I'm not bothered about getting stuff in the post, I get her points, she gets the discount.

SmileyClare · 19/10/2022 16:59

I agree it makes sense to use someone else’s clubcard code if you’re not bothered about vouchers being sent to you.

TooHotToRamble · 19/10/2022 17:11

I've had a Clubcard for years and don't get any unsolicited mail from them. I assume I just opted out at some point. I get nothing at all in the post from Tesco.

If you want a Clubcard, just get one and opt out of mailings. Simple.

Topseyt123 · 19/10/2022 17:36

Vouchers are hardly a faff. You just scan them at the till if in the store or apply the code at the checkout if online. The money is then taken off your bill before you pay.

Why wouldn't you want that? It is bizarre to want to pay more than you need to!
