Just oil have played a blinder, crossing shut for 24hrs, traffic backed up everywhere spouting fumes 🤬🤬
why can’t they just open the bridge and let traffic flow ? They’re tied on so if they fall they’ll only dangle 🤷🏻‍♂️

I haven’t heard much about this but I don’t see why the traffic can’t keep going

Because if one of them falls it won’t be themselves they would be killing.

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2022 14:34

True. What a nightmare

Discovereads it says clearly, on the top of that graph you posted, that it is of "CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels for energy and cement production". That's it.

Err … what else do you burn fossil fuels for , apart from ‘energy’?

Dancing around the bonfire?

WetAndRainy · 18/10/2022 15:08

I've honestly wonder if they were some sort of fifth column undermining green protest from apparently within - as their antic are so counter productive.

They seem to raise resentment, irritation and exhaustion on green subjects rather than raise awareness of the issue or help people understand what they can do.

Kennykenkencat · 18/10/2022 15:34

People won’t do anything unless you can find them a cheaper and easier method of doing something.

If they concentrated on that sort of thing then they wouldn’t look like a bunch of entitled w*nkers

Driving anti clockwise around the M25 to get to Croydon from Thurrock

or from Thurrock to Chatham via the ULEZ zone

Why do 5 miles when you could do 75miles

meateatingveggie · 18/10/2022 15:39

Water cannon the bunch of arseholes off. The sheer arrogance, selfishness and stupidity is off the scales. There's ambulances trying to get sick people help

Makes me want to go and rev my engine right near them.

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 18/10/2022 15:51

As well as all the extra fuel being used , additional fumes etc, perishable goods might also be wasted if they are not delivered in time. Lorry drivers aren't driving around the M25 for fun

🙄🙄🙄🙄 That’s where most of it goes. Which you can tell by the complete lack of difference when you add in industry

Here is one showing production based CO2 emissions vs Comsumption based CO2 emissions. (Don’t add them to get a grand total , they’re simply two different ways of calculating all CO2 emissions)

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 15:56

Oh, and here is what the U.K. contributes to the global total….again, what more can the U.K. Government be doing hey?

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 16:04

We’ve decoupled GDP from energy consumption and the resultant CO2 emissions….

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 16:10

@crackofdoom In case you decide to go what about other greenhouse gases..doom! The U.K. sucks! The U.K. Government must act! More Doom!
As you can see, massive reductions on all greenhouses gases. You can see it includes everything as well. And that our land use is actually spot on as we’ve created a carbon sink…

I live in the wider area. 3 different small businesses have had to update customers to say that their distribution lines has been affected. I had no idea how vulnerable businesses were until then.

But yeah, I'm supposed to feel okay about spiderman and his pals making a point when small businesses are losing out.

TotallyTERF · 18/10/2022 16:32

Are they still up there?

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 16:35

I forgot to mention that oil is also used in many medical, cosmetic, hygiene and agricultural products. So just because we are extracting a fossil fuel like oil, it doesn’t mean it is going to be used as a fuel- as in burned & create greenhouse emissions. Even if we had 100% clean, renewable energy, we still would be using oil. Of course these uses are being transitioned to oil free versions, but there’s not the urgency because these uses are not affecting the climate.

Are they still up there?

As of two hours ago BBC said they were.

TotallyTERF · 18/10/2022 16:36

What are they doing for food/ water/toilet? They surely couldn't have carried many provisions up there?

OneFrenchEgg · 18/10/2022 16:38

I wonder that too. I guess water bottle and protein bars or something? Hope they aren't dropping waste 🤮

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 16:39

TotallyTERF · 18/10/2022 16:36

I’m sure they’re just pissing in the wind and crapping from on high as if they were pigeons. Then wet wiping their bums and tossing those down.

LondonJax · 18/10/2022 16:43

I think they should be left there. Like those who glued themselves to gallery walls after they threw soup over the (glass protected) Van Gogh. They should have been left glued to the wall. Why not? That's what they want isn't it? To protest? Or...is it that they want to have their day in court?

So leave them to it. If they need to eat or get more drink, they need to come down.

No need to spend cash moving them on. Just let them stay where they are. Post a guard or two at night to arrest them as soon as they come down and to stop others feeding them and let them get on with it as it's so important to them. Oh, and as they don't like oil and the products, make sure they aren't wearing anything water proof made of oil by products etc.

ReunitedThorns · 18/10/2022 17:44

The protesters are getting down before a second night of fireworks.

blacksax · 18/10/2022 18:03

[ponders... is there any way of connecting that large metal structure to an electric fence...?]

scrivette · 18/10/2022 18:12

I did think that the news should stop reporting them, but then thought they would probably go even more over the top until the reports started again.

It's ridiculous, I was stuck in the traffic today and it's so dangerous. The lorries were clearly fed up of queuing for hours and weren't letting the cars join the motorway from the slip road, casing lots of dangerous manoeuvres and a few near misses.

TotallyTERF · 18/10/2022 18:51

Are they coming down now?
