Is getting a full time role WFH realistic?

How many people do you know with a full time WFH role

Getting up early to get into the office is really taking its toll. I wake up at 7am, leave at 8am, and get home at 6.30pm. I am looking for a complete new start soon doing a role that is creative and WFH.

I am skilled in marketing and writing, I flourish working alone and am very introverted so find meetings are very draining.

Is getting a full time role WFH realistic?

i got a home based role, but with occasional trips to the office and to visit other locations. i don't know many people with fully home based roles, but i think hybrid working is the way forward.

LoveBluey · 17/10/2022 11:45

I am fully home based and have been for over 10 years so it's not just as a result of the pandemic. I started in a field role travelling to see clients and then when an office role came up I applied but as I live a huge distance from the office they agreed to home based. It's got a lot easier now the majority of other people wfh to.

You'd probably be best starting up something self-employed/freelance

NightmareSlashDelightful · 17/10/2022 11:46

Can be, but it depends very much on a) your industry and b) individual companies, and even managers.

KlopflopKop · 17/10/2022 11:47

I have full time WFH job. Nothing like what you want to do though. Pay is not great and unfortunately there are still meetings 😬

Figgyroller · 17/10/2022 11:49

I do, but work for a global company. I'm the only one in the UK - boss in Europe & rest of team US/Europe (all WFH). It was advertised as a fully remote job (if you look for jobs on Linked In there are a far few out there). I still have lots of meetings though - just Teams rather than F:F.

midgetastic · 17/10/2022 11:49

Compared to my typical wfh day you haven't got a much longer day / maybes a hour in it ( do you have a lunch break ?)

Getting up early - 7am isn't early

Wfh I may be at my desk by 7 ( rare but not. Unknown )

midgetastic · 17/10/2022 11:50

And I would suggest that marketing often involves people

Bananas52 · 17/10/2022 11:50

Both myself and DH have wfh roles, similar fields to what you are looking for. A friend of mine also is doing the same. They're definitely out there!

dulipass · 17/10/2022 11:51

some meetings are inevitable and I understand that

For those who work from home what do you do?

OP posts:
midgetastic · 17/10/2022 11:52

Tech

dulipass · 17/10/2022 11:52

@midgetastic I'm not a morning person so 7am is very early for me.

Figgyroller · 17/10/2022 11:53

Tech here too..

Sallyh87 · 17/10/2022 11:54

I am predominantly full time WFH with the expectation I attend the office as required so once or twice a month. I am an HR Business partner in the public sector c.£55k.

ChilliBandit · 17/10/2022 11:54

I WFH, can be full time if I want but I do go into the office once a week. I’m an accountant. I still get up at 7am though so I can get DC ready, shower, have a nice breakfast and be ready for work. Lots of meetings though.

midgetastic · 17/10/2022 11:55

So you don't need WFH you need more flexible hours ?

Isthisexpected · 17/10/2022 11:55

A friend works in tech, another for a creative communications agency, another a graphic designer, another a proof reader. Not all full time. Only WFH. All pre-pandemic too. Quite a few for companies that are in London or abroad.

Suzi888 · 17/10/2022 11:58

Housing management- LA. Hybrid- but could stay at home if I wanted to. I go in once a week usually.
It’s not creative at all. Boring as hell, meetings (a lot of which are nothing to do with my area, you turn up, camera off/sound off- not always but a lot of the time).

SirBlobby · 17/10/2022 11:58

I have a full time WFH role and hate it! Leaving to go start a new job in a few weeks fully based away from my home.

Yes it will make nursery drops more difficult but my god, being at home all day every day makes me so much less productive

NightmareSlashDelightful · 17/10/2022 11:59

50% copywriter, 50% personal trainer (they actually balance each other off quite well!)

I was a senior writer in big ad and marketing agencies for many years before I left to go freelance, and part-time. So I have a lot of contacts from the 'old days'.

DoingJustFine · 17/10/2022 11:59

I bet you don't enjoy your current job, so your day actually starts when you get home at 6.30pm, and then you resent going to bed before midnight?

Going to bed early makes getting up early really easy. But I can understand why you don't want to.

Namechangefail123 · 17/10/2022 12:02

They exist! All of the MKT colleagues at work WFH

dulipass · 17/10/2022 12:03

I've never really enjoyed any job I've had. I have enjoyed elements and have made a few friends and had good bosses but I have always felt it was a way to pay the bills and I would be out so fast if I won the lotto. I don't want to feel like that as I always give it my all, but I don't enjoy the majority of work.

twistyizzy · 17/10/2022 12:03

I full time WFH but not in your field. It didn't start off as 100% wfh and I used to have to do a lot of travelling but after covid we discovered we could the job just as well remotely, everyone at my level became 100% wfh. Middle management though and my team are still travelling up to 50% of their time.

Mollie5 · 17/10/2022 12:04

I WFH full time and so does DH, we both work for the civil service. I am in management and he is an investigator.
