Is getting a full time role WFH realistic?

How many people do you know with a full time WFH role

Getting up early to get into the office is really taking its toll. I wake up at 7am, leave at 8am, and get home at 6.30pm. I am looking for a complete new start soon doing a role that is creative and WFH.

I am skilled in marketing and writing, I flourish working alone and am very introverted so find meetings are very draining.

I've got a creative job (writing scientific software) which was full time from 1995 to 2003 (when DD started school) - I could have gone back to FT when she was older but liked the work life balance and earned enough half time.

Digbyscolleague · 17/10/2022 12:04

I have a full time WFH job in marketing. We are a fully WFH company. We don’t even have an office. We do sometimes meet up as a team, but it’s not compulsory.

Worldgonecrazy · 17/10/2022 12:06

I have colleagues work mostly from home and go to the office once a month (financial services with all the accompanying marketing, IT, customer support, monitoring etc)

I think a lot of businesses would not find this unusual these days.

My company works closely with the big four and nearly everyone there that we deal with works primarily from home. Meetings are generally over video.

would having to go in once a month make a difference or are you looking for 100% wfh?

Adsy1988 · 17/10/2022 12:09

I’m fully WFH and have been since Covid. I work in a statistical analysis role within the accountancy profession.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/10/2022 12:10

I'm fully WFH (Managenent Accounts).

twistyizzy · 17/10/2022 12:12

Fyi I get up at 5.45am every morning to fit in animals, get child off to school, put washing on etc before sitting down to start work at 8.45am. A 7am wake up would be bliss!

Be prepared to apply for jobs with over 400 other applicants!

It is VERY difficult to find a fully remote marketing role. Hybrid is easier.

Kfjsjdbd · 17/10/2022 12:16

I wfh full time in FMCG marketing. I would look at LinkedIn. The ads are really clear about what roles are office/hybrid/wfh.

yoshiblue · 17/10/2022 12:16

I'm looking for a new job in tech. Lots of remote only roles or with minimal office time eg once per month.

And not just software engineers, designers, product management, delivery management, testing for example.

Whichwhatnow · 17/10/2022 12:16

I'm a lawyer and WFH full time. I've gone into the office twice in the last year, both times for social reasons really and had my travel and hotel paid for.

I work for a large global company and most of my colleagues also WFH. This includes HR, software engineers, sales, marketing, finance, IT etc etc. It's becoming far more normal now.

It's not without its downsides but I do like my 10 second commute (bed to desk) 🙂

Marketingbear · 17/10/2022 12:16

Also, we've just had a meeting and if teachers strike - meaning parents will be on emergency leave it will mean a loss of income for us (deadlines missed, angry clients and potential loss of contracts)

It'll likely mean that recruitment is paused ....

Redqueenheart · 17/10/2022 12:18

Just started a part-time (3 days) hybrid job with a charity. I have had two similar hybrid, part-time roles before that.

I worked entirely from home for one year for one charity so such roles do exist but to be honest it was a bit isolating and I felt really disconnected from colleagues and the organisation so I am not sure that is always the best way to go.

Spending a day in the office and the other 2 at home is ideal for me. I think there are also often a few meetings or events each year that you just have to attend in person.

I must say I do get at 7am still :)

I hope you find a better role to give you a good work-life balance.

I found it quite the opposite to find a WFH marketing role. This is the second one I have had within 18 months (first one was a short term contract) and I was offered another two.
It is quite full on though and I barely leave my desk (I am on my lunch at min!)

OneDayAtATimePlease · 17/10/2022 12:21

Officially my role is hybrid - my contract is office based and we have a policy of WFH as suitable.

Reality is we only have to attend the office for team meetings, we're having our first one in 4 years at the end of the month.

I work behind the scenes in the digital side of the communications team (graphics, website etc). As long as I have an internet connection and privacy I can work wherever I want.

justwondering123456 · 17/10/2022 12:27

I work full-time from home in sales. I love not having to go to the office, but as you can imagine it is a high pressure job - with sales there are targets and your bosses would definitely know if you took advantage of working from home.

It's not at all how some people imagine working from home, that you're able to watch Netflix and do chores during your work time.

Cherryblossoms85 · 17/10/2022 12:30

Try software development. Outside the public sector it's your best bet at fully remote. My old team is based all over the country, works well. Quarterly London meetings and beers, that's it. Like a total fool I left that team and see end all my time in the bloody train.

midgetastic · 17/10/2022 12:32

Could you just ask to start and finish a little later ?

MinnieMountain · 17/10/2022 12:33

I’m not but I have conveyancing colleagues who are fully wfh.

SkyeJ90 · 17/10/2022 12:34

I work in marketing and I do one day a week in the office, theres probably not loads of WFH full time jobs out there but I imagine there’s a lot of hybrid nowadays.

rainbowandglitter · 17/10/2022 12:34

I work in Finance. We usually go in the office once a week but can do fully remote if we want.

IamSamantha · 17/10/2022 12:35

I have one.

Sh05 · 17/10/2022 12:35

My oh has just started a management role in social work full-time WFH.
Before this job he was in the office one day a week for Panel meetings but the office was not far, in the same toenso hardly any commuting.

berksandbeyond · 17/10/2022 12:36

I'm fully home based but I don't work full time (27.5 hours a week - school hours)

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 17/10/2022 12:54

Just sent you a DM, the place I work is doing predominantly home working, occasional (very occasional) travel into an office.

SparkyBlue · 17/10/2022 12:56

Not me but DH works full time from home. He is a senior director with a multinational. He hates being home all the time but since covid the company decided that's they way they are going. He is constantly at meetings and works mad long hours.
