Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

@BluSquid Actual information! Thank you.

Oh shit! I'm going out later to buy all the toilet roll, dried pasta and wine. Is there anything else I need? Do courgettes freeze well? /s

Courgettes do freeze well chopped, but when you cook them you need to be aware that they have additional water content which can be a pain in the arse.

My current bug product im hunting for cheaply is dried mixed herbs. I struck out in 3 supermarkets this week, but suspect I should be able to get some this week somewhere else.

I still have a small amount but I'd rather not buy a small pot at an extortionate price again.

Make sure you panic buy stuff you will never use, then let it sit on your cupboard for a decade. Alternatively chuck it out after a couple of weeks. That seemed to be the protocol during the pandemic.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/10/2022 10:53

thank you @BluSquid

Rosebel · 16/10/2022 10:53

Absolutely fine round here. Couple of subs but nothing major.
Obviously you are trying to inspire panic buying but please don't. What do you gain from it?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/10/2022 10:54

there could be week;ly threads about this
there probably are

Icecreambythesea · 16/10/2022 10:57

The fresh fruit and veg sections of all of the major supermarkets around here (North East) have had massive gaps for months now. When you do managed to find things in stock, they're usually past their best.

RedToothBrush · 16/10/2022 10:58

PriamFarrl · 16/10/2022 10:36

And that list says that courgettes are in season in October, which it is now and also was last week when I was trying to buy them.

Crop failure!!!

This time last year I had zillions. This year I have none. My plants have flowers now at least but are unlikely to produce much before the frosts come in now.

Local grower has had hardly had any this year.

As i say yields are hugely down in many places. Not everywhere but definitely been a problem this year.

I went to Rhs Bridgwater a few months back. Their veg garden isn't half what it was last year. They had planted drought resistant flowers and called it the woodland garden to cover the fact that had so many gaps due to the issues with the heat.

Until that point, I had assumed it was just me having problems. It's clearly not.

AliceMcK · 16/10/2022 10:59

My closest tescos had full shelves on Friday, same with my local Aldi. Morrisons has been hit and miss for months, I haven’t been in a could of weeks so not sure how they are at the moment. Went in 2 B&Ms last week, loads of food and same with my closest home bargains. I’m in NW

MintJulia · 16/10/2022 11:00

Eh? Just back from Tesco. Whole week's shop, they had everything except 1.5kg own brand crinkle cut oven chips.

Maybe just do your own shopping. It's much less bother than all this substitution nonsense.

This is what it comes down to, to me.

Supermarket loyalty and online substitutions aren't worth the hassle.

skyeisthelimit · 16/10/2022 11:06

If your order is in November then it isn't relevant what is in the shops today.

There was a drought this year and lots of crops failed. A lot of stuff is seasonal and might not be available. I get those cauliflowers for my neighbour and they are often not available.

I just logged on to complete my weekly shop and everything you show is available in my area, so might be just your area.

Doris86 · 16/10/2022 11:06

Shortages? I’m just off to Asda to fill my trolley up with toilet paper.

MintyGreenDreams · 16/10/2022 11:07

Switched back to ocado recently no subs and few out of stock items. It doesn't cost me a fortune either because I filter price low to high fir the things I want so there's not much difference in price to Tesco

i know it was crop failure, I was replying to the poster who seemed to be confused that someone would buy courgettes in winter, when it isn’t winter.

PriamFarrl · 16/10/2022 11:09

In Waitrose yesterday there were signs apologising for the shortages of some products.
While I agree that the OP is over egging it rather I also am surprised at the posts saying that there aren’t shortages.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 16/10/2022 11:15

Shelves are bare in my local Aldi. Last 2 orders from Ocado, I noticed many of my usual items couldn't be seen or found!

TescoCustomerService · 16/10/2022 11:16

I've just placed my Tesco order this morning for delivery this afternoon, nothing I needed was unavailable, hopefully there's not too many subs. I haven't noticed a shortage of anything in my local area thankfully.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 16/10/2022 11:17

Thanks @BluSquid Wonder if this is the reason why shelves are empty. I am in SE london if it helps

BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss · 16/10/2022 11:18

it’s a regional and staffing issue
Then they need to stop their stupid computer system from rejecting 18 year old gap year students (desperate for work with AAB at A’level) before they even get to interview…

<bitter> ☹️

iveseenitinthemovies · 16/10/2022 11:19

Is that portsmouth tesco? It seems they are having a freezer refit according to the website.

cariadlet · 16/10/2022 11:20

Tesco is the only large supermarket in my town. They haven't had fennel for a couple of months.

First world problem I know, but it's the main ingredient for one of my go-to recipes for an easy, mid week dinner.

Sestriere · 16/10/2022 11:21

I walked down to our Tesco on Tuesday at around 6:00 AM to pick up some milk whilst on my morning walk. The shelves were all rammed.

Went at around 17:30 in the car for some bits and everything was right down.

Maybe they are just not keeping as much in the back or have less staff to keep the shelves replenished throughout the day.
