Liverpool FC tickets for 9 year old - how to get tickets? Should I get a membership?

Hello

My 8 year old son supports Liverpool. For his birthday he has asked for tickets to a Liverpool game. I have been trying to work out how to buy them and it looks as though the only tickets that become available are for members or people who live in Liverpool (or the hospitality tickets which are really expensive). The only thing I can think to do is get him and his dad (who would go with him) memberships so that they can (I think?) buy tickets in the members ticket sale next month.

Does that sound right or is there a better way to get tickets?

Thanks very much for any advice.

Maybe you could take your son to watch a Southampton game Op, if they’re closest to you. He might really enjoy watching them and before you know it could be a Saints supporter.

DS is a huge Liverpool fan. He knows a season ticket holder who occasionally sells him their (two) tickets if they can't make a game.
Pre COVID as a Birthday gift it was cheaper to pay for DS to fly to Barcelona, cheapish accommodation and get tickets to a match than buy Liverpool tickets for a Man United match. They were over £800 for a pair of tickets.

Knowing season ticket holders is how my DH gets tickets for him and DS to go to United games.

He’s got to know a lot of other supporters in our area who travel to games on the coach, if they can’t make a game they offer him their season tickets. He’s been offered tickets for 2 games this week alone.

I think it’s really the only chance of getting affordable tickets for premier league games these days.

I hope you can get some tickets for your boy 🤞🏻

I bought my dd and her boyfriend tickets for Anfield from a website called Live Football Tickets ( i think). I paid about double their face value and I half expected not to get the tickets at all - but it was all fine and we had a great time. This website sells tickets on behalf of season ticket holders who can't make matches. You do pay more but nowhere near hospitality prices. I think we paid about 70 quid a ticket for liverpool v Aston Villa. Obviously if it's a bigger opponent eg Man U then you'll pay a lot more but if it's just a bog standard match you can get reasonable tickets. I'll just check my emails for the website I used now.

Liverpool v Derby County is showing tickets available from £48 - although that's a mid week match. Where do you live?

OldWivesTale · 16/10/2022 00:32

Liverpool v Leeds on 29 October from £150. What's your max budget? What happens with this site though is that the nearer it gets to the match, if the tickets haven't been sold then they tend to drop the price. So you might find that if you keep checking nearer to match day, that the prices will have dropped - especially when they are playing teams like Leeds.

As PP have said, do not go on the away end if he supports Liverpool. That would be very silly.

YeH, don’t do that. That’s terrible advice. If he wore a LP shirt he’d get kicked out & while there’s unlikely to be any trouble from Southampton fans (not exactly a grudge match) he wouldn’t really be able to cheer if LP scored. It’s a
really bad idea for a 9 year old. Please don’t do that.

Massively disagree. No one is going to pick on a kid enjoying the match! I've sat in away ends loads of times and have been fine. Obviously don't rub it in if your team scores but you don't have to be fearful

I suppose it depends which away end you're in. Also, I don't think anyone would pick on a kid but they might be hostile/aggressive towards the dad who is with the kid especially if things get tense. It's also not much fun sitting with the away fans. He will probably want to cheer his team on and he definitely won't be able to wear his Liverpool shirt.

It’s not about being fearful! A 9 year old will cheer when their team scores and they could be asked to leave. I’m not saying he’s going to get beaten up. In fact I specifically said the opposite. A child’s first experience of a footie match should be sitting with their own fans and soaking up that atmosphere, not sitting on their hands and being given side eye when LP are 3-0 up!

Is it different for away matches chops? From the website it looks like the away tickets are only available to season ticket holders or members who have been to a certain number of matches before. I think an away match would be fine.

We live in a town in the South East. I think the town has a football team. Otherwise it is Southampton and Reading.

I'd try taking them to watch their local team. Cheaper and more chance of a " connection" with it. Liverpool would then be their "tv" team.

wizbit93 · 16/10/2022 08:09

I live in the south east and wanted to get DS tickets for his 18th. The only way I could do it was to buy a hospitality package with hotel. Think it was about £370 each for two nights. Nice as a one off though!
Incidentally, does anyone know when the members sale starts? I couldn't find it online and missed the date for the previous one. It's my first year of being a member.

stressbucket1 · 16/10/2022 08:22

I think you have more chance of Carabau Cup games or early round FA Cup games. Some of the early European games too but they are evening games. You might need to be a member to access these. Premier League is extremely difficult to get

GnomeyGnome · 16/10/2022 08:22

We're Chelsea supporters here and have been priced out of going to first team matches. We tend to go to youth team and women's matches now and watch the senior team on TV. Could you get your DS tickets to the youth or women's team if they ever play at Anfield?
Obviously it's not a club match but we've been to Wembley many times to watch England matches. Much easier to get tickets if he'd enjoy that.

redglobox · 16/10/2022 09:37

Thanks so much for the tips and ideas.

I have been looking at the livefootballtickets.com website and there are some options there that we could do. I would be so nervous about something going wrong. The vast majority of reviews seem to be good but there are some negatives. The company seem to guarantee that you will get a ticket but it doesn't sound as though they guarantee that you will get in! I also read some reviews that said there were other people with tickets for the same seats as them. I wonder if the credit card company would refund in that situation. I might just have to hope to not be one of the unlucky ones.

The England matches are something I hadn't thought of either and hadn't realised they would be easier to get. I will look into that too.

Although, I second the PP that suggested taking them to see their local big team. It really is more fun to support your local team - even if they're a bit crap! That's half the fun. There's a great camaraderie amongst the fans and season tickets are usually available and affordable. I used to have a season ticket for my local team and when they were in the Prem it cost me £300 a year for the ticket. By contrast my dh's Man U season ticket was about a £1000. If he gets a season ticket for his local Prem team then he'll get to watch all the other big teams, week in, week out. And if he can't go for any reason then he can sell his tickets on through that website I told you about earlier in the thread.

redglobox · 16/10/2022 09:42

Oh wow that's so much cheaper! I really like the idea of supporting the local team through the ups and downs. I'll try floating that idea with my son.

I do think the cup schemes are the way forward (if you are in it for the long term) - it’s a great way of building up attendance which then gives you more ‘credit’. Honestly, we have genuinely been every season for the last 4/5 seasons (excl covid) to premier league & cup games and never paid more than £60 for a ticket. We also went to Wembley for the Carabao cup final! It can be done :-)

redglobox · 16/10/2022 10:31

Now reading up on the auto cup scheme! Thanks Seveninfour

I was very nervous too but I've used it twice now with success. Apparently the company refund your payment if you fail to get your tickets. But the biggest worry is having an over excited child and then no ticket arrives ( which seems to be rare) so, depending on the age of you dc, I would either say you've ordered tickets but can't promise they'll arrive - or if dc is young, just book a stadium tour for the day before or after and the hotel etc and let the match tickets be a surprise. Both times I did it, my tickets were sent within 48 hours of booking so you should have some idea early on. I was like you though, very dubious, especially when my tickets came and I struggled to download them - I thought I'd been had over , but they were very responsive to my queries and it was all good in the end. I'd definitely use them again, especially if it's a one - off birthday treat.

redglobox · 16/10/2022 11:29

Thanks OldWivesTale. Yes I was thinking to prime him for disappointment just to be on the safe side. Any tips on seats? I can see they categorise them by area but I've never been in a football stadium before so not sure how much the seats matter. Is it worth paying more for a longside seat?

I'd also strongly agree not to sit in the home end and support the away team.

My family is very eclectic and support a variety of teams. I've been to all the Premier League 'London' grounds. Without exception, the stewards turned back anyone (including children) wearing away kit from the home stands. It was pretty obvious if away supporters were in the home end once the first goal went in (either the only ones cheering or the only ones not!) The stewards got them out for their own safety. I think it's a mistake people only try once! Perhaps it's different outside London.

As a parent with a footie mad son (ironically we support Liverpool), I only ever got seats in the family stand at Anfield up until he was about 14. It's pretty well respected as a no-swearing zone. Definitely not like that everywhere else, a squaddie would blush!

I think the OP has already been given lots of great advice. My DS and I are Members (the annual gift is pretty good quality). Sign up to newsletters to make sure you're notified about ticket sales, especially for the summer friendly games. We got great seats at Wembley for a Liverpool vs Barcelona (when they were good) match a few years ago, which was superb.

The hospitality tickets are a fabulous treat if you can stretch to them. They have lots of different price ranges, the cheapest being the Sevens & Eights Lounges. The Boot Room restaurant is also really nice. You get the choice for pre or post match meal. Adult pays full price but it's much cheaper (£70 I think) for children. Since we travel up from the south, I've also got the hotel (Hilton) hospitality package. You get a room for the night, 3 course meal, match ticket & transport to and from Anfield included in the price. The Hotel is really well situated for exploring the city centre.

One other thing I'll mention - if your nephew needs to travel any kind of distance or a hotel stay is involved, Premier League matches can get cancelled/postponed at short notice. You'd be offered tickets for the new date, but might loose your travel/hotel costs unless you were insured.

I hope he has a great time!

ZoeQ90 · 16/10/2022 16:28

If he wants an anfield match experience, would a women's match be worth considering? They tend to play at anfield for the local derby against Everton so it's a good atmosphere but obviously not the players he'll have been watching on TV. It was still good to be in the crowd singing you'll never walk alone when I went though. Think tickets were £10 adults and £5 children.

redglobox · 16/10/2022 20:16

Thanks so much both, that's really useful. I didn't know about the hospitality tickets being cheaper for children goldierocks. The ones I have seen on the website don't seem to have the child option. I will keep investigating that. Definitely want to go for the family stand now! I can't work out where that is though. I can only find the family zone which seems to be something different.

As an alternative book a stadium tour for the day before or after they’re playing at anfield and watch it in Jurgens on the waterfront - totally LFC themed bar, the kids love it. Make sure you spend time looking at the murals too.

redglobox · 16/10/2022 22:23

That sounds great Bunny, thanks for the tip.
